I’m playing Dragon’s Dogma 2 and while I got the standard ending, I found out that there’s a true/hidden ending. I’ve never really been a big fan of these types of things, as it feels forced and you get the feeling that you didn’t really beat it lol. So now I’m onto it! How about, you SW? Are you a fan of true/hidden endings in games?

Yes and no.

This idea ROTS used was never capitalized on.

I hate shit where you end up with lame endings for not getting certain things done, esp when they don't even tell you on the first run.

Yeah, I like them. Need to be done well though and not have the criteria for them be too crazy.

Very rarely if ever will I go for the super secret ending bit Devs like to play. I don't personally mind it as a feature because it adds a layer of replayability to the percentage of folks who really love the game and want to dig deeper to squeeze every last drop out of the game. I don't often come across a game that has a story/mystery so good it makes me want to turn every stone to see it...

The most effective super secret ending/story bit I think I ever played was in Assins Creed 2... The Truth snippets that pieced together Adam and Eve with the Apple of eden. At the time the creed mysteries were fresh and super intriguing to me. You had to scan buildings looking for the next snippet of the truth... I wanted so badly to know how the modern day story tied into the past and so offering an added layer of mystery solved was really exciting at the time.

Odd, completed Ass 2 but cannot remember this at all.

As far as memory shit goes one of the things I liked about BOTW was it adhered to the John Carmack porno philosophy to a T.

@uninspiredcup: Do you remember the Glyph puzzles? There were important building scattered throughout the world that had a glyph etched on the side. Could only be seen in eagle vision. When you found the glyph you completed a puzzle and about 5 seconds of the video was unlocked.... If you were willing tk find every glyph you connected the entire video....

The YouTube I posted is the full video. Starts 40 seconds in if you want to spoil it.

@TheEroica: Yea must have skipped that stuff entirely.

Main thing remember about that game is fighting the pope over a space alien apple.

But yea that does seem somewhat similar to the BOTW memories. Assuming it was taken from this.

@uninspiredcup: Absolutly the same idea. I was hooked on the breath of the wild snippets too... Great way to bring you into the story.

Lol... Yep the space alien apple is a main star in the truth vid.

Mass Effect 2 did this on the whole "suicide run"

Here is the flow chart of possible outcomes.

It's, well...it's a bit much. And some of the outcomes are pretty dire, like "lose all your crew" or "your party member didn't love you, so they die".

Depends on execution.

But if a game presents itself as having multiple endings based on your choices but there is one ending that is objectively the best, that is kinda lame design.

One of the things I really liked about Three Houses was that there was no good ending. No golden route or anything like that.

I don't mind if it's a cut scene after the credits..... I'm not to keen on Indiana jones approach of having to collect a few dozen hidden relics....but I'll forgive Xbox studios and the real 2024 GOTY winner machine games for giving us a fantastic game

Not really a fan. When I complete a game, I want to feel like I actually completed the darn game.

I hardly pay attention to the stories in most games these days. When I was younger I liked to get into all the lore, now as an old man, I can't skip cutscenes fast enough.

On topic: YouTube has all but killed my need to grind a game out for any "true ending". Ain't nobody got time for that.

Sure. I don't go out my way to get them always, but could be nice to try to get on a second playthrough at least.

It's fine. I have replayed games before a few times to get the different endings for fun.

I don't mind if it's really easy to get the true ending but some games like Batman Arkham Knight where you have to get all the Riddler Trophies can go f themselves. I just when to Youtube to check out the true ending because I didn't want to waste my time getting all those trophies. Any game that forces you to do some bullshit in order to get the true ending is not worth my time at all.

I loathe games with multiple ending where they hide certain items, guns etc behind them.

If it's something like Arkham Knight's collect all the riddler trophy, no. But if it's just something like a no/low violence playthrough, yeah.

Only if the secret ending is easy to unlock.
