Poll Are you a main quest or a main/side quest kind of a gamer? (57 votes)

Main Quest - I mostly care about main campaign sprinkled with some side quests. 12%
Main & Side Quest - I like to do both equally. 70%
Side Quest - I mostly care about side quests and exploring. 18%

Which describes you best, SW? I tend to be a main & side quest kind of gamer. I like to get the most out of a game, unless the side quests really do suck.

I generally get the main quest done and go back for side quests later.

I tend to like to do everything before I finish the main quest... Or at least until I get stupid bored.

I get more enjoyment out of side quests and unlocking things than I do main story quests. Sometimes, I will just side quest until I have reached peak enjoyment of a game, then go back to the game and finish the main story sometime down the road.

I mostly focus on the main quest. With games being as long as they are nowadays (often too long in my opinion) plus needing to focus on my adult responsibilities, I don't have enough time to also focus much on side quests unless it sounds like a very interesting side quest. Plus, side quests are usually just busywork filler content and I got more than enough games to keep me busy that I don't need any busywork filler content to extend the life of any one game.

Depends on what game I'm playing. Some just give me the push forward needed to complete the main quest, while in others I'm more than happy to explore and waste time doing whatever. I respect both approaches to game design though.

I do this, also. One of the main reasons I do it, though, is because sometimes proceeding with the main quest can fail side quests.

I am a bit of a completionist so I like to go around getting all the side quests done before progressing in the main story. I did this with FFXV and then discovered there wasn't much main story to FFXV it made me feel like all the side quests were a waste of time and I was really disappointed with it.

Both main and side quests. In general I try to squeeze a few side quests in between each main mission I tackle.

Both, but I have a bad habit of focusing on side quests and exploration to the point that I get burnt out and can't bring myself to finish the main quest.

Both, depending on how interesting the side quests are. In Witcher 3 for example, I enjoyed a lot of the side quests as much as the main quests.

Generally focus more on the main story and do a couple of side-quest along the way. When I reach near the end of the game, I focus on side-quests.

On first playthrough usually both equally...I won't do sidequest that is hidden/not obvious like you need to go out of your way to find it.

I like to mix it up like I did in AC Origins, I would do a main mission or 2, and then go do half a dozen side missions. Or if the map is broken down into segments I will try and clear each segment with both main/side missions before moving to the next segment.

I want to say main quest, but truthfully when the game is well crafted I tend to get bogged down in interesting side quests and exploring... for better or worse

Same here. Also find I get a little more powerful in character development (depends on game of course) before I tackle main quests.

I'm fine with both main and side quests so long as I get as a minimum, ample reward for the effort. It doesn't matter if they appear repetitive. I need the cash. If side quests are used to earn moolah, so be it.

I suppose this can go for any game. I like to do side quests as much as I can. It helps build you or get you those better unlockables to help you through the main quests. Like even on Forza Motorsport, I spend a TON of time outside of the main single player game, building up cars and tweaking them and what ever else. But I have that same way of thinking for every game no matter the genre.

Depend on the game. But more main quest.

Like for Batman Arkham Knight, I got used to the game after the Knight of Arkham missions and never did the side quest.

Depends on the game, but mostly I'd say a main quest type guy. But some games I love side quest, just got done playing Darksiders 2 and really enjoyed all the side quest.

I tend to do one main quest for every few side quests. One of the things I like the least about Far Cry 5 is how it forces you into the main questline.

I do sidequests more frequently to get enough buffs for the main quest and get the chance to meet that interesting NPC. Side quests can sometimes get repetitive in most games but they are usually fun and always prolonging my gaming experience, the reason why i love games that give a player freedom to switch between side quest and main quest.

Main quest. From the modern titles only The Witcher 3 has had interesting side quests so far IMO.

Ditto. For the games that let me dictate, I'll try to to several side missions in between each main mission.

I tend to squeeze in around 4 or 5 side quests before knocking out 1 line of the main quest. As someone said up above, the side quest is where you earn most of your XP and loot making you more powerful for the main quest. I also just like to get the most for my money.

I'm basically both doing sides & Main quest really. If leveling up is a concern, (looking at you Witcher 3 & Horizon: Zero Dawn) then I like to do side quests to get more exp. points in leveling up and continue onward with the main quest.

I tend to get a little tired of the main quests on games and take a break by doing side quests, which often lead to more side quests, then I go back to the main one.

Depends on the game.

The side-quests in Skyrim are way better than the main quest, for example.

I'd have to say that the main quest is usually my least favourite part of a game.

I usually rush through the main quest so that I can get to the good stuff unfettered.

It depends on the game, but usually I do most - but not all - side quests while playing through the main quest.
