Poll Are you disappointed in this gen because graphics aren't on par or the games just aren't that great? (94 votes)

Graphics are everything! Games are not fun with no native 1080p 60FPS 3%
Disappointed with the games, due to too many remasters, not enough new IP's 38%
I enjoyed my first party offerings, Sony and Nintendo satisfied my needs 13%
PC MASTER RACE!!!! 32%
VR Will save this gen and will be the highlight in Gen 9 2%
I'm getting a Scorpio! 12%

I just want to know what System Wars really think of Gen 8, as it seems we are already getting close to Gen with the NX and Xbox Scorpio.

This gen has been a huge drag, not only game graphics aren't as mind blowing like last gen (except for the GOAT, Witcher 3). But also there hasn't really been a lot of stellar titles that would be remembered this gen other than a few indie games and the GOAT Witcher 3.

What do you really think of this gen?

Can't speak to the PC experience, but this gen sucks.

The graphics aren't the problem. I still bust out the SNES and probably play it more than any console I've purchased since.

The games have been the problem. I haven't seen much of anything that is an improvement over last gen games in terms of gameplay mechanics.

And the re-masters this gen are totally out of fucking control. If you want to re-master something, do it to some of the classics for the NES, SNES, Genesis, etc.

Not games that I just played on their original platform not even two goddamn years ago.

Just play Furi and you'll have some actual fun which I've been having plenty of lately thanks to it.

I'm personally disappointed with all the remasters and the $99-$125 ultimate edition rip-offs.

I cant really say theres a lack of games though. I have a pretty big back log.

Remasters and games are still being developed for 2+ years. For a gen that supposedly was suppose to see more games being released we arent seeing it, don't get me wrong there's a few amazing games out there but compared to the last two gens they just smoke this gen.

Also Nintendos stupidity is pretty underwhelming, they pretty much gave up on the Wii-U after 2 years makes me not want to ever buy a console from them ever again.

I don't mind remasters of games that are from past generations as I still like to get back and play my old games without having the need to plug in my old console (of course backward compatibility is more preferable to me) but I wouldn't bother purchasing games that are from the last gen of PS3 & X360 .

Furthermore, I have still to find out how this gen will turn out, the wow factor has yet to kick into effect, the graphic leap from last gen to this is not that significant compared to the PS2>>>>PS3 & XB>>>>X360.

This gen has brought me two of the better games I've played within the last decade: Ori and Galak-Z.

Nope, not disappointed.

The games are pretty disappointing.

This Generation isn't really disappointing in Graphics, if anything I'm actually impressed. I honestly didn't think things would get any better than last generation except for things like Frame Rate and Resolution and BOY was I wrong.

Looking back at the games I own, it feels like there's a lot more original stuff in previous generations than this generation.

Way too many remasters this gen. Sort of more like gen 7.5 than gen 8. Still I've found plenty to play, but most are multi-platform games. Pretty disappointed with the original first party offerings almost 3 years into this generation.

I'm actually enjoying this gen. There are many remasters, sure. But as I no longer have my PS3, they are allowing me to pick up my favorites from last gen on the new system.

Graphics are great this gen. Maybe growing up in the 8 and 16 bit eras allow me to appreciate today's graphics more than the younger crowd.

@undefined: I don't know, I started playing FF14 last year. I play it on ps4, but if I had a gaming rig to play it on I think I would have no issues giving away my ps4 and moving to that. Would be nice to get access to cheap steam horror games to mess with when ff14 is under maintenance.

I find this the worst gen so far due to the quality of the games. If you skipped this gen altogether, you wouldn't miss much. I can't say that for any other gen.

..last gen lasted too long (it was a 7-8 yr cycle if I'm not mistaken). A number of those games that came out the last two years, would've been on the PS4/XBO. It kinda ruined this gen.. IMHO.

Considering we are getting alot of remasters instead of new games or even squeals to games. Yeah we got some issues this gen. I mean seriously there almost seems to be a remaster ever few month and when this gen first started it was a remaster ever other week. Hell even Elder Scrolls Skyrim is getting a remaster and I liked that game but I'm not interested in buying it again. The point I'm trying to make is I would like to play something that didn't come out last gen that at least isn't a new IP or a sequel or prequel.

I am honestly fine with remasters if they actually do a quality job doing it for a quality game that needs it at a reasonable price.. If there is one remaster I would like to see it is the Mass Effect Trilogy in updating the character models of the first, and including all the DLC in one package.. To this day you cannot buy all the dlc in one lump sum.. And have to buy them seperately it to the point that it will cost you 5 to 8 times more money than when you got the Mass effect trilogy on sale..

I'm both happy and disappointed with this gen. I'm disappointed in that it now takes so long to develop a game that we don't have the same volume of games we did during the ps1-2 era and a lot of current games are remakes of older titles however, I'm happy with new games like drive club, pPCARS, Assetto Corsa and Dirt Rally.

We're still waiting for a GT game on the PS4 and at this rate the only full game we'll get will be after the PS5 has arrived like with GT6 on the PS3.

@sSubZerOo: And to be honest that cool because I can't lie I did buy one remaster and it was the Handsome Collection. It was only because I didn't own the Presquel to Borderlands 2. I just wish for more original or sequels to continue on the stories we know and love. But don't be like Assassin's Creed and over milk the cow lol

Not disappointed at all since Project Scorpio will relinquish the graphical slump people have been complaining about. The true power of gaming will be unleashed with Scorpio and this generation will be relieved if not "Saved" from the darkness of mediocrity and constant formulaic remasters or reboots.

I play games on the laptop that are low res with middle and low details settings. I guess not.

The graphics of the current-gen consoles look great in comparison.

I'm quite happy this Gen, my only real disappointment is not seeing games like Castlevania and Silent Hill, 2 franchises of which I am a huge fan. Capcom at least is still producing stuff like SF5 , re releases, and the upcoming RE7.

Konami? They're asleep, won't even bother releasing a Slient Hill collection on current consoles. I would buy that instantly, I never played Silent Hill 4. Anyways, maybe they'll wake up soon.

The games are the issue. Before this gen, there was always an evolution in gameplay which made the jump to a new gen feel fresh. This gen feels exactly like the end of last gen. I'm playing the same games just with a slightly flashier appearance.

I have been pretty bummed graphically this gen. The PSbore has been an extremely under powered piece of shit (as is the X1). The games are their saving grace.

For me it's that gaming has lost it's "innocence" and has become just another corporate controlled shitshow. Sure there are still some great spots out there but overall it just not as endearing as it was. Or maybe I'm just old.The only reassuring part of all of this is that gaming has gotten so big that there is always going to be something somewhere that will catch my eye.

Meh. I've brought last of us, god of war 3, resi, resident evil 0. Loz WW.Only one which is a bad deal is god of war 3. Didn't play last of us last gen or gid of war 3, resi old school was on sale. Zelda was free.

Choice is good but would prefer not so much emphasis on ports. Everything else I've been ok with as between ps4, wiiu, 3ds I've always had variety

I play PC game the most, so It is very hard to be disappointing. Get a few hundred games on Steam and you will never want for much.

I would say the games are the biggest problem. There just haven't been enough truly great and memorable experiences to be over 2.5 years into a gen.

Funny how many of you admit you don't care about the graphics but still rip Nintendo to shreds over being underpowered.

Graphics are just fine. What I'm not happy with are development cycles growing out of control because of unrealistic visual expectations.

I'd gladly take more two-year developed games that didnt need 300 artists to model rocks and ultra realistic window frames, over the dick measuring contest we have know that forces us to wait 7-10+ years for a single company to release TWO major games. WHY?

And if that game turns out to be a THE ORDER? Well tough luck ReadyatDawn fan, wait another 3-4 years for our next major game and hope its turns out better... if we dont go under.

Look at Polyphony Digital, that company must be a money sink.

I don't agree with any of the options. Having been a gamer for many, many years, I feel very lucky to be around at a great time for gamers. I feel like we're seeing unprecedented quality, variety, and enormously interesting innovation - it's all there, if you choose to look.

So, I'm pretty happy with this generation. I think it's an awesome time to be a gamer. :-)
