Well I don't really care either way, but since I own one, I guess I should be happy about the success because that means it will get lots of game support.
I'm a big fan of Nintendo, but in all honesty, the 3DS is the worst designed device I have ever owned.
The bottom screen frame scratches the top screen when you close the system. A design flaw like that is unacceptable.
The stock battery in the 3DS lasts about 3 hours. I had to get a replacement, the Nyko Power Pak +.
The Circle Pad Pro to add an additional slide pad doesn't fit on the system with the Power Pak + installed. It's almost like pick your poison, there are so many add ons for this damn thing because it is an incompetent device and you obviously can't use all the add ons at the same time.
The 3D effect requires you to hold the system very still, and even the slightest movement will throw it out of focus. This makes features like the gyroscopic controls pretty much useless because to use them, it requires moving the system around, in turn throwing the 3D out of focus.
The D-pad has horrible placement on the 3DS.
I've used different controllers for basically my entire life, and I have never held a system that hurts my hands as much as the 3DS.
The only reason I bought a 3DS was for the 1st party Nintendo games. I played through Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Ocarina of Time 3D, and they were all awesome. I'm also using it for DS backwards compatibility. I bought the thing for the games, and it has served its purpose thus far, and will continue to serve its purpose because more Nintendo games are coming. I like the games, but hate the device itself.
I plan on getting a PSVita soon. I played one at Best Buy, and I don't think anyone could say with a straight face that the Vita isn't 10 times better than the 3DS as a handheld device purely based on hardware.
