I do but only FROM's games like armored core (at least it used to take skill). Games where you get a sense of pride from being able to do really well.

Not really, I just play games for fun, in fact I have only gotten to full max rank in ONE game and that was RDR, but I only did that because all my friends played it so we used to spend a lot of time on there and they helped me level up fast through the double XP weekends and what not. I got the zebra and everything, but honestly it wasn't worth it, and looking back now it just seems like I wasted a lot of time.
But like I said I was having fun with my friends, if they weren't playing it I would have never have done that.
I used to try to play a lot of games at a high level.
Now, I don't really care. I devote time and effort to Halo MP and League of Legends, because I like those games, but that's about it.
Nah theres no pay off for your skills so times better off spent gettng good at games that can actually take you places. Like getting good at games such as Poker, chess games like that.

LOL you're a fool. There were Halo tournaments and even current COD touraments off the top of my head that offer thousands and thousands in prize money. There have been numerous that I've seen over the years that have had prize money of $100,000.
You = complete noob.
What about fighting games? I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the fighting games I play. There is a local offline competitive scene in in my area(we don't like online) and I'm trying to join.
I am too old to grind it out in order to get good at any game. I have nothing to prove to anyone, and love this medium for the enjoyment I get from the game worlds, characters, stories and gameplay. cainetao11
Also this, stopped caring if i was the best when i went to college.
I dont believe any game takes more skill than another. Less popular games just tend to have more skilled players.
*Obligatory Tier 3 Brofist*Eh not really, and the only game that I would do that in is Quake live. I'm only in tier 3, so I don't really see that going anywhere :P.

Spend a good bit of time (not as much as some) in BF games (2142, BC2, and BF3) and I would say I am pretty darn good, so yes :P.

Call_Me_Ishmael is what I run by if you play West/Central NA. :) Haven't played in a while though, been too busy playing Fortress Forever and getting through my stressful life. :?[QUOTE="CaptainAhab13"][QUOTE="cain006"]

[QUOTE="freedomfreak"]This. I really need a Nintendo system. I'm picking up a 3DS for this very reason (though I admit I still play Quake Live [getting back into it] and Fortress Forever, two hard-as-nails MP games).I used to.
Ugalde-
But I've grown tired of MP.
Sadly, it seems like a lot of people just get over-obsessed with winning in multiplayer games, instead of just having fun playing the game.
Some of the best multiplayer games that I've ever played have been "high-skill" games, and all I had to do to learn them was tell my ego to shut up and to be okay with losing until I learned the game.
I never had to dedicate countless hours to the game either. I just played it, had fun, didn't care about losing, and before I knew it, I was good at it.
I find that very boring. There are too many different games to play to sink my teeth into one game the same way for that long.
Like with Tribes: Ascend. I got to a satisfactory skill level, and now I just toy around with people and try to set different goals such as keeping a generator destroyed with a sentinel. That is more fun to me than learning myself to hit everyone every time. That gets superboring.
I also enjoy getting behind people and shooting at their friends from behind their back and see when they notice it.
With Starcraft when I noticed people weren't thinking about their games, but were rather doing a set strategy as fast as possible that would be almost unbeatable without learning to do it myself, I was like whatever that is too boring. Who would invest that kind of effort into getting good at one game, it doesn't sound like fun to me.

Yeah but you fail to remember that when you divide up the money between 4 players thats a measley 25,000 each and in CoD its only 20,000 dollars each LOl!!! and these tournaments that are huge like that barely ever come around. I mean dude get real divide 5000 up between 4 players and thats not even 2k each, if you wanna play games for tournament money thats worth a damn then your playing the wrong games...
I'm willing to put a lot of time in to a good game, but I can't dedicate myself to one. I usually like to have several games being played at once so if I start to lose interest in one I can play another until I feel like getting back to it, and in multiplayer I tend to have times where I just really do not feel like playing.

"a measley 25,000 each"...whoa, sorry there Bill Gates  You're forgetting there's plenty of these tournaments throughtout the calender year and you get sponsered etc.
There is so much fail here I am just lost for words...also comapring chess to video games? , that sounds fun...NOT.
You're basically just a noob at games so don't worry, you wouldn't reach a good enough level anyway. Stick to chess

Ahh so your one of those kids that probaly doesnt have a job or buy anything or else youd know that 25k really isnt much money my car cost over half that Lol!, not to mention you could barely even live one calender year that much money... And no im not comparing chess to video games, if you could read the topic title says dedicate yourself to high skill gams and Im using examples as to why spending thousands of hours trying to play a video game at high level is so pointless cause theres no real pay off for your sills.. Where poker, pool ping pong almost any other games taht require thousands of hours of playing to get good at have hundreds of thousands and million dollar prizes and tournaments. So again I say if you wanna play games for tournaments with real money then your playing the wrong games... simple as that.
I don't have the time to spend getting to a high level of skill in any game. Many of those game that would offer some fun are filled with the dedicated harcore players who will kill a noob in a few second and not bat an eye.

Going into games professionally is generally a bad idea, to be that good you basically have to spend so many hours playing that you can't have a job. Even if you do get good enough, what do you do after the game phases out of the professional arena? You just wasted years of your life gaining a skill that no employer would care about at all.
