Ars Technica sure seems to have fallen...

I found that to be massively biased, not to mention downright false.

Did'nt Baldwin coin the term? Why is everything negative about Quinn's side "alleged", while the opposite certainly is'nt?

It seems to me that no matter which side you take, it's the wrong one.

I took no side.

I recuse myself from politic discussions and like to talk about actual games.

Look at the author and see if there is yet another pattern? I'm pretty sure she is affiliated with the huge PR push and previous "death of gamers" diatribe as indicated in her own August 28th article. This author chose a side (she's associated with the Fem kill gamers side) a long time ago and she already tried to get Ars Technica involved then, if not before.

---

EDIT: I see a few posts quoted me and didn't understand something about me so I'll clear that up.

I have an opinion on these Gamersgate/Quinnspiracy/Feminist Frequency/ etc issues after days of research since this thing blew up last month, but I just don't want to share my opinions in SW as there are too many idiots and trolls in SW. It's not worth debating among rabble-rousers found here. That's why I don't talk politics in SW, I'll keep it to the game discussions. It keeps it real simple. I have enough trouble trying to educate users on basic concepts and these issues are WAY OUT OF THEIR WHEELHOUSE.

If this was a forum filled to the brim with remarkable and intelligent users, I would share my discoveries and my take, but for every great user there is 10 morons ready to troll. I'm not going to get into a serious political discussion on this troll board.

I wouldn't even know about Gamersgate if I didn't visit this forum.

Taking no sides kinda seems to be the wrong side too (not according to me personally mind you) ;)

Some Ars commentor said it best:

"For once, I want to hear a rational feminist argument by someone removed from the discussion.

As it stands, if you're a woman and disapprove of feminism, you're immediately discredited for some arbitrary reason. If you're a man and disapprove of feminism, you're immediately discredited because you don't have the right parts. Instant misogyny.

If you're a woman and you approve of feminism, you're immediately discredited because OF COURSE women would approve of something that benefits them. If you're a man and approve of feminism, you're immediately discredited because you just have "male guilt" (is that actually a thing yet? It should be!).

Seriously. Both sides have automatic reasons for immediately disqualifying opposing arguments and they rarely step off this path. The specifics of arguments might change, but it's always the same line of reasoning."

Edit:

And yeah, Casey wrote their "Death of..." article, if that's what you're referring to. I don't think she's capable of properly covering this debacle.

Does anyone actually know what GamerGate is? The term came about from the reaction to the way the term gamer was being used - something that videogames writers were doing and commenters online were simply responding to that. That's why it's called "Gamer"Gate not.

Adam Baldwin coined the term.

And that's just a public IRC channel. With what... 30-50 users? A drop in the ocean of 4chan... and users are completely anonymous there... the article is grasping at straws.

@SolidTy: I respect the intention of taking no stance. It's important to be aware, though, that you will still be affected by decisions others take in the subject you are avoiding. I'm speaking in general, not about this particular issue... this is the sad part of politics. But taking no stance is especially important to learn as much as one can before deciding anything (that's how I see it at least).

Quinn supporters, anti-gamers, tumblrites, SJWs, Kotakutards, game defendants, death-threat-throwing-lunatics, mysogonists, misandrists, BLAH BLAH BLAH

All dickheads, all of them.

It's a social media movement for gaming journalist to be more transparent in their operations. Critics have dismissed it of outright being sexist or misogynist because the Zoe Quinn crap served as catalyst, but this who Gamers vs Gaming Journalist thing have been going on for years now; Gertsmann getting fired, Doritogate, Journalists bashing the Retake Mass Effect protest.

Response to it, watch it. It's BS, they tried cherry picking public IRC logs before now they're doing it again. Also I worked so hard on that thread man, why you gotta spread misinformation AND ruin it for me :(

(the joke is that Davin Faraci called gamers worse than ISIS)

I don't think I spread any misinformation. My topic clearly says "Ars: blablabla" and I even bitched about how biased I thought it was.

We had one thread on that topic here. That's enough. Just keep bumping that one.

I'm not taking sides here, just keeping this forum from being spammed by something technically outside of the board description. One thread on it is enough.

You should care one way or the other, because one side claims to speak for gamers and the other is labelling all gamers with the same brush.
