Aesthetics have always been pretty weak. The more important factor is how they affect the car.

It doesn't matter what kind of hardware the game runs on, or how talented the developers are. If car manufacturers won't let them damage the cars beyond that, then they can't do it. Plain and simple

Better then having nothing right? and theres limitations on how much a dev can put damage on a car by the car developer

I think the general public is expecting too much in regards to damage. It still seems too early in eras to see "perfect" simulations of damage, and most people are neglecting what makes these games great, the actual racing and driving experience.

its true tough, the damage system was overhyped, and forza 3's damage system is very much like forza 2's really. I was driving 140 mp/h with the porsche, and crashed right into another car(driving reverse) that was atleast going 100mp/h, and the car has paint scratches and bumpers that fell off. Also, if the windows break from the outside, the interior car view does not show the windows.

in fact, the biggest complaint i have about the whole graphics is that in the car view there really is no window visible, its like you are always driving in a car without windows...

sigh...Go play Burnout for a damage simulator. The cosmetic damage has always been weak in Forza (obviously due to manufacture limitations), it's the internal damage that matters. This is a race sim folks :|

People overhyped Forza 3's damage, it's really underwhelming once you see it.

People should still be hyped. Internal damage has been vastly improved, from tire wear to aerodynamic penalties, its all there. and its better.

But in the end when the damage is done to a vehicle, all that is happening is it drives slower and maybe the steering is off center. It's pretty basic stuff.

don't forget gearing, overall handling is also effected. Along with all those nasty sound effects that would make me cry if i heard coming from my STI lol. It's pretty much LIGHTYEARS ahead of what PD had in previous GTs. Nothing.

***EDIT. forgot to mention misshifting and over reving which can damge your Engine and tranmisson respectivly. And It's even more brutal now with the addition of a clutch.

TC, you obviously havent played the demo, because your car damage can still effect performance. I was testing it today, and i screwed up my transmission, and the car would take forever to shift, sometimes it would even skip gears. The alignment was off, and the car would smoke something terrible lol. Also, its important to note that the demo was built on an old, pre-e3 build, and the game has since been changed due to complaints on the offical forums since the game's announcement. 1) the cockpit view has been changed, and is further back, and 2) damage has been tuned, and tweaked. Its still nothing too damaging to the overall model of the car because its simply not allowed. But the handling of the car, and the way it drives, and sounds will be affected.

Demo (pre E3) build

d

Gold (final) build

The only reason Forza3 is being bashed on this is because Forza fans overhyped the damage as the second coming of Christ whilst bashing GT. Most people aren't dissapointed because we knew what to expect in the first place. This isn't going to be Burnout levels of destruction.

I stopped reading that article after a glaring grammar mistake in the first paragraph. I will say I agree with the topic, the damage system in forza not only looks outdated, but I find the internal damage to feel a little outdated as well. It seems to have not changed at all from Forza 2, which wasn't exactly consistent in the internal damage, but that wasn't a terribly big problem, as the point of this game is to not crash, so I didn't ever do anything more than some body damage anyways (well, mostly).

I disagree…Of the 100's of threads concerning this it has been extremely rare a fan would even comment of the "looks" of the damage. Just as it been said numerous times in this tread. The praise that FM has seen from it's fanbase has been because of the consequences or mechanical damage the model represents. GT fans simply refuse to acknowledge the true purpose of "damage".

GT did not have it and any discussion about it would constitute hype simply because GT was lacking the feature..It's that simple

Nvm, no need to worry. You're just a sad little fanboy who doesn't know what he's talking about. Heck you probably don't even own a 360. Just taking a quick look on your profile and looking and some of the games you've rated really shows how sad you are. You can have have the last post, I couldn't really care what you say now that I know you're just another fanboy. :)

I love how the accusers are looking at the aesthetic aspect of damage, something that was never touted to be unmatched. It's all about it's consequences. But sadly, this being System Wars, where everything but visuals is considered void, I guess it makes sense to be disappointed in T10 because they didn't break contract and enhance the aesthetics of damage modeling.

I think the general public is expecting too much in regards to damage. It still seems too early in eras to see "perfect" simulations of damage, and most people are neglecting what makes these games great, the actual racing and driving experience.

PSdual_wielder
I agree. I'm not going to total my car and throw the race just to see how realistic the damage is compared to real life ;). Granted, seeing a few dents and scratches is more realistic than having indestructible cars, it's not going to make me stop dead in the tracks just to see how accurate the scratch is when I hugged the corner a little too close or slammed my bumper into another driver's front door (yeah, I do that sometimes :P).

Fanboys overhype Forza's damage in general, it is good but it doesn't compare with games like Burnout's or GRID's damage. Forza is certainly a great game but fanboys make of it what is not made of God at some points.

damage control, to bad the last gen codies game were better and grid and dirt 2 are in a class of their own. damage is not damage if your car doesn't fly apart in a bad highspeed crash. want mechanical damage go play gt2, it not fun when you car look perfect but doesn't drive straight.

so why can codies get it so much better than everyone else bonnets crumple bumpers fly off light smash wheels can fly off doors come off cars get shortened and twised windows smash fully or partly and they have had most of this since the ps2 days. It's just other devs haven't figured it out yet.

Jeez, an influx of Forza 3 threads as of late... Now I see how the hermits feel with regards to Crysis. My God, get over it Forza has been the best all around racing series since its inception.
