You've already seen plenty of examples.
You can also import alot of ideas from DS games, such as take a note system. All you do is pause the game and write down notes of things you want to remember. This can also be incorporated into games, like how PH and ST had puzzles that were too complicated to remember so you had to write down combinations and such.
Another example on asymmetric gameplay is Pictionary, it tells you on the tablet what you are supposed to draw, and only you can see it. Then you draw whatever you are asked to on the tablet and the other people in the living room will only be able to see the picture you are drawing on the TV. I am betting this is Nintendo's big 2013 title.
In Mario Kart 7 the second screen is an overview map of the track and it enables you to see what items other players are carrying, you can also see things like red shells coming at you. This may sound trivial but it adds a huge amount of depth not seen in a MK game before. Item management changes the entire dynamic of the game and it becomes more like a game of chess.
If you are skilled you can significantly mitigate blue shells by falling down a pit just before it hits you, or avoid them altogether by letting the 2nd place player pass you before the guy with the blue shells fires. Alternatively, if you are the guy with the blue shell, you can just hold it in your inventory and the players in the lead will fight for 2nd place in order to avoid it which will make it easier for you to catch up.
There would be no point developping for it then. why not? ignoring it is a completely valid option. there are plenty of DS games that didn't bother with the bottom screen at all, or just added something useless so it doesn't look like the screen is turned off all the time. hell, nintendo even provides a controller that doesn't use the screen for games that don't have use for it.[QUOTE="campzor"]Ignore it.m_machine024
A D&D game. Dungeon master could use the paperweight and control the game somehow. chaoz-king
That's exactly what I was going to say. Players can use wiimotes and the TV for all the typical D&D player stuff while the GM uses the tablet thing for all the typical D&D GM stuff. It could be really damn cool if done right.
Also, here's a no-brainer: Board games adaptations. Risk, Monopoly, chess, checkers and stuff like that would be really easy to make for the tablet controller, and even complex stuff like Axis and Allies and Diplomacy could work if developers are talented enough.
As for video games... I don't know. I think I'm more of a board game/tabletop RPG kind of guy.
^^^^The DS was a better choice for devs to make games, cuz of its popularity, even if their game concepts don't use the touch screen.
WiiU is different. I'm ok with PS3/360 multiplats that weren't created with the gamepad in mind but for WiiU exclusives there's no freaking point or excuse, especially when PS3/360 are close in power. Gamepad concepted exclusives is what the WiiU really needs.

i'd want the D&D one, as long as it had some sort of online functionality. i can't get a regular group with standard tabletop RPG, making a digital version wouldn't help much without online :P"that would be cool"? it's a thing lol. they actually made this mode. which is why i think it's too obvious not to happen.Maybe he meant that would be cool with the gamepad? :P But still that multiplayer mode... damn... for the game to be confirmed for the WiiU is just a matter of time. Ubi is a big WiiU supporter on top of that. yeah I ment it would be cool if they did it with the wii u tablet controller thingy.[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="inb4uall"] yeah that would be really cool

Some ideas would be:
1) A keyboard. The lack of a fully functional keyboard has been one of the greatest weaknesses with moderns consoles. With a Keyboard chat becomes faster, more effective and you open the door for a lot of different Multiplayer functionality. MMO's become a lot more viable with effective chat. IM, Blogging, Messenging, Forum posting, internet search.. everything becomes a lot easier than on the current gen consoles.
2) Use it as a pre-match planning white board. Let players from each team draw and illustrate ideas and plans. Let game clans use it as a whiteboard and online play maker.
3) It could allow for far more complex control systems. Consider a game like Mass Effect where you can give your squad mates commands regarding where to go, abilities to use and so forth. With a mini tablet you no longer need radial menus, pause screens to select what to use, instead you can dynamically present all the relevant buttons and options right in front of the player... no need to find that obscure ability by browsing through multiple sub-menus.
4) Multi-select, grouping and drag-n-drop. With a tablet style screen you could emulate a lot of the functionality that you get from a mouse. It might allow the Wii-U to start offering some higher quality strategy games compared to what consoles have been getting so far. A game like Total War could easily controlled with a tablet while it would be a nightmare to control using a regular controller.
Personally, I think the controller is the most interesting thing about the Wii-U, I'm far more intrigued by it than I ever was with the Wii-Mote or Kinect controllers.
regarding point #1, not sure about the 360, but both the wii and the PS3 support USB keyboards. i used one for communication on monster hunter 3 all the time, and i plug it on the PS3 every now and then when i'll be typing a lot. Some ideas would be:

Sure but you cant expect or assume that your users will have a keyboard when you are making a game or a feature. If you a developing the search system for Netflix for a PS3 you cant build it around an effetive keyboard. On a Wii-U you can develop games, systems and app's with the knowledge that all Wii-U players will be able to access a keyboard when they need it.
I would probably only enjoy the tablet as an inventory management screen or a tactical map of some kind in strategy games.

pretty sure you can assume people have a keyboard nowadays :P plus there's always a digital keyboard in case, or some other feature. i'm not saying your idea is invalid, just pointing out that keyboard chatting on consoles is a thing already :PAren't you a Zack & Wiki fan like me? The gamepad would be awesome for a sequel. Remember that the gamepad also has M+ tech in it.;) Touch screen + M+ + pointer + even camera = endless possibilities for a sequel. :D Capcom better work on that.If I were a dev I would find the gamepad pretty boring. It would be much more exciting to develop games with M+ in mind. But no publisher is ever going to fund that, so forget it.

I guess I just feel like a wiimote (being one handed and not shaped like a video game controller) is much better suited for becoming any object.
Besides, as much as I love Z&W, I don't see capcom ever touchng it again.

Yeah I agree. It's better but that doesn't mean it can't done proprely or fun with 2 hands on the gamepad. I gonna miss that freedom I had with my hands being separated with the wiimote + nunchuck combo through.About Z&W, yeah the chances are really slim but hey let me hope about it a little. :P

and not try to innovate and keep doing the same old stuff we got this generation?
Nah I'd like Developers to work with the WiiU pad. Heck Remember the WiiU Pad has a Camera on it. That's Instant Video Chat while playing a game right there.

Controllers are obviously not the only way to innovate. Most of the "innovation" we got from Wiimote, Move and Kinect was just sh!t anyway. There was a lot more cool stuff going on in games with standard controls. Serious question, do you really expect developers to use the WiiU tablet in real, proper, game changing ways? Or just gimmicky ways? (excluding Nintendo. Nintendo will have some cool stuff no doubt!)As an alternative playing screen for the kid when it's time for me to take over use of the family room TV (esp come September when NFL season starts).
