As a Gamer, Do you need a Wii?

Cooking Mama

Wii health

No more Heroes

Then, NO... I dont need a Wii.:D

Not every gamer needs a Wii. Just like not every gamer needs a 360 or PS3.

My hypothesis is that it all depends on your age...mostly. I am a 30+ yo gamer who has had many consoles. I LOVE my Wii because it reminds me of why I am a gamer. People under 25 do not remember the NES very well. That console begat the 'gamer'. Sure Atari was first (I had a 2600 and 5200 as a kid) but that was simple gaming. Nothing there spawned gamers. It was an initiation into video games. Nintendo brought home consoles back to the states after the crash and created many a gamer. Sega did also, but in less numbers.

With the original NES, I, as a kid fell in love with Mario, Samus, Zelda, and the Nintendo brand. It is what being a kid was for me....games. Over the course of years I have been able to see, play, and enjoy the evolution of said franchises. Those franchises begat ALL games we see today. Being a true gamer requires knowledge of the roots of gaming.

The Wii is awesome because it encompasses all I have said. Do not judge it on the games right now. Some are great, but many are mediocre or less. The next evolution of Mario, Samus, and a true Wii Zelda are coming to further blossom the roots that the NES laid 22 years ago. In addition to that, the VC allows for that nostalgic glimpse back at games of bygone days whether good or bad. Its a circle of great gaming that ALL gamers need to appreciate.

I personally have no idea what this means.  I mean, I am only 17, but I remember well the days when I owned a NES and Sega Genesis and SNES and all those consoles...

But maybe that's because I was poor and about 6 years behind the curve on owning game systems....
