They announced that the DL content is region locked now, so in countries that have no Live support for example, Oblivion content will be unavailable FOREVER

That leaves only PSN and PS3 games to get DL content for in those places, and PS3 versions of any game the most desirable

The article says that for most people it won't make a bit of difference, doesn't sound like that big of a deal to me.

I'm going to toss out a crazy theory, but I;m doubting people who have LIVE accounts registered to countries they are not currently living in will decide this generation.

Seeing as how it's probably going to be 0.5% of the userbase or something.

Those might be some million, and i am sure they would pirate MS games now on, since they can't connect to Live, that would be a huge loss

MS wouldn't have done it if they thought they were losing money by doing so. The money they are making or saving for taking this action, is likely more than what they're losing from potential buys. They do a little research you know.

This may be a setback, but you really think it's worse than when Sony actually sued a company (Lik Sang) into non-existence so that no one could import Sony products? If that didn't destroy Sony gaming forever, I find it extremely hard to believe that the inability to download Oblivion content by someone in Abu Dabi will destroy the 360...SeanBond

Lik-sang was ignoring international trade laws that prohibited the import of japanese and north american PS3's to europe becasue they didnt meet energy saftey standards. it was more than just sony trying to blackball them. they chose to ignore the rules and they got burned. it was thier own fault.

ummm its allways been reigon locked on LIVE. there just cracking down on it more with the update! But it would still be possible after the update just gotta have the right addreses and stuff

I better start making the most of my US account while I can.

Just so most people here know, where you enter an agreement to distribute content that you do not own (like all of the ppv movie downloads and tv shows, you must make sure they are only available where the contract states. Otherwise you will be in breach and can be sued.

Also, there are other countries that do not allow certain types of gaming content and if MS allowed it, they can be sued.

Common sense here would tell me EVERYONE here would understand that and move on.

not really, if you had actually read the article, it's based on the local governments and laws of the countries, not MS.

Yea ever since the new Gears map where released and they charged for those, that really did it for me. Speaking as a hardcore Gears gamer that really disappoints me.. $10.00 for 4 maps. Heck might as well buy 2 PSone classic games for my PS3.BrutonNYC

Yea ms forced epic to charge us for those maps that really left a bad impression on me about live.

I know downloadable games and content are region locked and some games aswell are region locked. The whole free region thing comes down to the developers making it free region.

I downloaded my version of Tekken: DR from the hong kong store over a month before it came out in the US :P
