Do you guys put "RIP consoles" in these gpu threads just to make sure they're SW relevant?

PCs are always stomping consoles in hardware yet no console has ever kicked the bucket for it.

Where is the source, is this stuff official, or only a rumor?

Also, why does the title says the "9000 series"?

That said, if this is accurate, I could easily end up selling my 670, and go for an 8970.

EDIT: The source site looks a bit fishy, not sure I buy this...

Sorry, my bad. It´s 8000 series. Specs are supposedly leaked. Although it looks to be quite true.

ConanTheStoner

Yeah... now I don't have a problem with a few news threads about the PC hardware in SW, but high-end PC cards target a different market than the consoles.

To use this as an ownage over consoles makes no sense... a card like the 8970 would not be competing against the consoles.

But Radeon 8950, for just 400$, will. It will match GTX780, maybe being only slightly inferior, but it´s 250$ cheeper. :o

Well yeah, that's awesome news for all the PC enthusiasts if true, but still, it doesn't affect the consoles in any signifficant way. Top of the line PC hardware will always be many steps ahead (even the worst SW consolites will admit that)  but consoles will still thrive since they aim at a different market.

With Volcanic Islands, AMD seems to have cancelled Sea Islands flagship GPUs.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/amd-confirms-new-volcanic-island-gpus-for-2013-launch/0115398

The Sea Islands codename encompasses the PS4 chip, as well as the new mobile chips announced at CES, and the Bonaire GPU found in the Radeon HD 7790, said AMDs CPU architect Jim Keller and business transformation officer Checkib Akroutm, as reported by Toms Hardware.

I bring this up because it shows the people inside AMD continue to work hard, long hours to deliver great products amongst the turmoil shown in the press.

The next generation of graphics cards Volcanic Islands is coming this year and shaping up nicely.

LOL, The cheapest GPU is more powerful than the PS4.faizan_faizan

Probably how is that different from now the 7950 is cheaper to than a PS4,what you are forgetting is that we are getting a complete system, while you pay $300 for a GPU alone with Ram,that card will play nothing unless you have a PC to put it.

I think consoles already make a good point about how over priced GPU on PC are back on 2005,a $299 xbox 360 played games better than a $500 dollar 7800GTX and that was just a card the 360 was a complete system.

Is sad that console makers did not went for ultra powerful hardware with with no gimmick,it would have been epic again.

Rocker gets what I'm saying.

It doesnt matter how many ways PCs are superior to consoles, at the end of the day people will still buy consoles.  So no RIP necessary.

Of course consolites also thrive on hyperbole in their topics, so not trying to push a double standard.  I just find it funny.

So, no 8xxx series?

ATI 8000 Series´s Specs have been leaked.

Radeon 8970 is faster than Titan and cheeper than GTX780.

Radeon 8950 probably will match GTX780. But the price !!! Look at the damn price!!!

Another nail into next gen consoles´ coffin.

For technical GURUs, futher details. Open with caution, you may suffer a nerd boner.

AMD SeaIslands was supposed to be the 2nd generation 28nm process tech enabled SKUs e.g. similar to Radeon HD 5870 (1st gen 40 nm DX11) to Radeon HD 6970 (2nd gen 40nm DX11) step. AMD has release some Sea Islands SKUs such as GCN mobile parts, 7790 and PS4.

AMD Volcanic Islands's Q4 2013 release seems to be in sync with TSMC's 20nm process tech.

I like Nvidia, but looking at their launch prices, I think they sometimes behave theirselves like Apple of GPUs. They love to overprice their stuff.

Agreed. If those prices are true, I think I'll be picking up those 8970's instead of going green next year.

It is $600.. that is not cheap.

Building a PC from scratch would be more expensive then ANY next gen console with just that one part.

How do I know? Call it speculation if you must ;)

Yeah... now I don't have a problem with a few news threads about the PC hardware in SW, but high-end PC cards target a different market than the consoles.

To use this as an ownage over consoles makes no sense... a card like the 8970 would not be competing against the consoles.

Rocker6

But Radeon 8950, for just 400$, will. It will match GTX780, maybe being only slightly inferior, but it´s 250$ cheeper. :o

Well yeah, that's awesome news for all the PC enthusiasts if true, but still, it doesn't affect the consoles in any signifficant way. Top of the line PC hardware will always be many steps ahead (even the worst SW consolites will admit that)  but consoles will still thrive since they aim at a different market.

Well. PC does can affect consoles sales by being 200% technically superior. It won´t steal all sales, but it will make a breach. Plus tablets will make a dent as well.

What I know for sure is next gen consoles sales won´t be the same as the last gen´s. And there are many sources which agree with me.

I thought the Radeon HD 8000 series were only a refresh of the 7000 series and only available to OEM's? :?

The mobile 8000 series has both new (e.g. Sea Islands) and old parts (e.g. Southern Islands).

With the incoming Volcanic Islands, there's very little need for AMD to release flagship Sea Islands.

What? Where did you get this? Apart from the both series' GPUs being GCN 1.0.
