[QUOTE="faizan_faizan"][QUOTE="xboxiphoneps3"] that is more powerful but still wont produce better looking graphics on PC then the PS4 due to a very small % of people who will have these top end cards, and no fixed platforms for these series of cardsxboxiphoneps3
I have no idea what you just said.

i said that PC games wont look better then ps4 exclusive games for a little while because developers dont make their games with the top end graphics cards in mind, (they obviously do but they dont push the graphics as much as they can because they need to cater to a much broader spectrum of hardware on PC) where as the PS4 is a fixed platform which will produce some fantastic visuals

here is where console fans fail to realize that PC exclussives or games designed with PC in mind (Crysis 1, Crysis 3, Battlefield 3 and 4) are VERY scalable and CAN take advantage of your hardware and look better.  Not every PC game is designed to run on a toaster like WoW.  Some games require the hardware.  Games like the Witcher crap on console games at the highest settings but are still capable of being played at lower settings (often times while still looking better than console mind you).

a 350$ gpu will last you 5 years if you don't care about downgrading graphics quality to medium.

And going 600$ on an unupgradable console for 7 years is not stoooooooopid ?

Wouldn´t consolites upgrade their PS3, if they could, to be able to play Uncharted at 1080p and high details ?

Is it stoooooooopid to replace LCD TV by a LED ?

Is it stoooooooopid to replace DVD by Blu-Ray ?

Talk about console overhead and console optimization as much as you want but if this is true we are talking about a card like 8870 that is $300 and has twice the computing power of what is in PS4 and that 8950 is so far away is not even funny

That happens every time new consoles come out, tho.

When N64 came out, it had the advantage over PC with "hardware rendering" but very soon came out the 3dfx Voodoo which outdid N64 by a good deal.

Same with Sega Dreamcast in 1999 (Nvidia GeForce smoked it), PS2 in 2000 (GeForce 2), Xbox in 2001 (GeForce 4) and X360 and PS3. (Nvidia 8800 series beat them both by a fair deal)

PC hardware is constantly refreshing, making it impossible for console makers to catch-up to it.

Well, "obsolete" is a pretty strong word and considering the console is still alive and kicking, I'd have to disagree here...

But it's true that PS3 was a CPU-centric design, with the CELL and blu-ray drive taking most of the hardware expenses of the system.

The RSX was based on Nvidia GF7 series which was an aging design at the time, outmatched even by 360's Xenos. (unified shaders and all that stuff)

PS4's GPU atleast has the AMD GCN 2.0 architecture, meaning it won't becomme obsolete so soon. (plus that 8 gigs GDDR5 and a decent 8-core CPU)

DX11 will also be staying around for a while, still.

While having many definitions, it defines to something that is outdated due to newer or superior arrivals. Also, PS4's GPU architecture is only GCN 1.0. GCN 2.0 will be arriving with the Volcanic Islands. PS3 had brought nothing while the X360 had many advantages over it, Unified RAM, Unified Shader Architecture.

If the 8000 series ATI cards are cheap and coming soon, can't we assume that the PS4 is most likely going to use cards that are similar to those ones....

Do you guys put "RIP consoles" in these gpu threads just to make sure they're SW relevant?

PCs are always stomping consoles in hardware yet no console has ever kicked the bucket for it.

ConanTheStoner

seriously this shit gets old, I remember in the DC vs Forza thread I was getting harassed for not mentioning PC. lol.

I thought GPU specs weren't fully revealed, all we know is that it's something like the 7970m.

For all we know it could have much of the 8000 series benefits with 7970m architecture, something like that.

If Im not mistaken, its a slightly modified 7970m, which puts it around the 7850/70 mark.

If AMD Volcanic Islands has an embedded CPUs (e.g ARM or X86 for offload serial processing) then an OEM can build a PC from it i.e. single board PC (SBC form factors).

It could look like the following picture.

Add-on boards has a higher TDP limit than CPU sockets.

These do look more appealing price wise then the Nvidia cards. I promised myself i wouldn't get a new PC for a couple of years though.

If the 8950 can match the 780 (it should since its new architecture) then thats a good value. By the time the GTX 860ti comes out (should also match the 780), both card will be in the lows $300s since the TI series always retails $250-299 (not a bad value at all).

I can see people throwing top money for the new series of video cards. Ram is basically free and most people who have upgraded/bought a decent PC recently are packing at least an i5/x6 (thus GPU is there main concern).

Theres going to be extreme butthurt next summer when the 860ti/8950 give insane performance for a good price (consoles are going to get crushed by a mid range card only 5-6 months into its cycle)

that card could be fifty cents and it would not matter to 90% of the console users in the world.

consoles (and the vast majority of console users) are all about pulling the thing out of the box and plugging it in and playing a game.

cool ass cards are about taking apart your pc and plugging the card in and loading the drivers and bullshytting around doing a few other things you have been meaning to do since you got the damn thing open anyway  for an hour or two.

or building a new pc from scratch.

those two demographics hardly overlap at all.

as in you know who is into both types of things?

me... and maybe a few thousand other dudes on this entire  site.

Although I am a PC gamer, as PC gamers we need to address that GPU solely doesn't make a whole gaming system.

PC hardware is constantly refreshing, making it impossible for console makers to catch-up to it.

nameless12345

The PS3 was obsolete before it's release, they X360 however, was not.

I don't think PS4 would have AMD Volcanic Islands GCN architecture. AMD already confirmed PS4's GPU belongs in Sea Islands GCNs.

Enjoy wasting your money hermits. 599$ for a graphic card is overkill. I wonder if you even play games anymore, lol.

lilnazar

Select the GPU under the flagship GPU e.g. Radeon HD 9950 or GeForce GTX 860 Ti/870.

If true, I am giving my girl my 7970 and getting a 8970.

sSubZerOo

You're not doing much to dispel the "PC gamers upgrade every 6 months" myth, lol.

I think I might do a similar move and give my 5870 to my dad and get a 8950.

Yeah I would have to say that any one who likes updating a flagship card for another flagship card one gen ahead is a fool or just likes burning money..

I use my AMD GCNs for bitcoin mining and I have solar cells/panels on my house.

What is bitcoin mining? searched it on the internet and couldn't find an easy definition. Maybe you can explain it in a less obtuse way.

Doesn't surprise me a bit.:P I was thinking about getting an ASIC miner from Butterfly Labs, but they're hard to come by and I'm broke.

Have you ever cashed out Bitcoin?

Yet they will provide the exact same visuals you get on consoles unless you want to do rez beyond 1080p which for most people on consoles that is irrelevant as they are playing on tv's that max at that res.

FPS effects gameplay more than you think, especially when you play on a 120hz monitor

Do you guys put "RIP consoles" in these gpu threads just to make sure they're SW relevant?

PCs are always stomping consoles in hardware yet no console has ever kicked the bucket for it.

ConanTheStoner

Ahhh is that why they do it? Because I was wondering why it's RIP consoles and not RIP Nvidia.

As if everyones going to be picking up these high end cards.
