AU retailers state the 360 is dead

A rather interesting survey (coming from ChannelNews and SmartHouse) lets loose with some damaging news. According to a majority of retailers, the 360 is in a death-spiral. The Wii and PS3 are doing very well, but 360 sales just keep sinking. According to one retailer…

"Both the Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii appeal to women and families and with Sony now winning the HD format war we can also sell the PS3 as a Blu ray player. This will allow us to also sell Blu ray content".

Another retailer went straight for the knife in the gut…

"The Xbox 360 is dead. We are stocking it because of our relationship with Microsoft however all our energy and marketing is going into the PS3 and the Nintendo Wii unless Microsoft come up with something new or additional marketing dollars. Halo 3 was big on the Xbox but that was about it. They have tried discounting and value add offers and even that is not working. We are even thinking of dumping the console all together".

Why does support outside U.S. matter? We live in the country anyway, all the games appeal to our western culture, I'm not complaining. Xbox is the brand named console for Americans.

even though 360 is about 800,000 less than ps3, looks like everything is almost even, and selling well down there.

just as I predicted, this gen is gonna be alot closer than everyone thinks, all 3 being almost even

it's not being racist, what it is, is saying that the 360 is not dead or never will be it's actually quite sucessful regardless of what goes on around the world if it sales in the us nothing else matter since us sales are above and beyond worldwide sales, just the fact is all, americans spend more money and move more product.

it's like american cars, they dont outsell the others worldwide, but they sure do well in the states, pretty much making them the highest sold.

see you people need to really read between the lines, everything isnt just black and white.

Look at India the difference between the poor and the rich is much larger then it is here in india, and the whole concept of money is actually a status thing, a hard working middle class indian is looked down upon by none working upper class in india so far as to being limited in his potential and his chances to become better because of his class.

i'm with ya there buddy...i mean i play alot of ppl in european countries especially in gears yet all i hear is its doin bad...it sucks cause i really like the 360...i mean the ps3 n wii are good too...but still i'm surprised this company wants to drop the 360 right now!..not ina year...but now...thats crazy

It's the same situation everywhere else except America and the UK, and even in those markets the 360 is still being slaughtered by the Wii, while the ps3 continues to grow steadily.

They don't have the best economy.. not by a longshot. They just try to police the world to have influence everywhere. India and China are the two biggest threats to them because currently those are the countries that really have influence everywhere not militaristically or politically but industrially.

Thats just stupid, ive got both a ps3 and 360 so please note im not here to flame any of those. It just seems stupid, a month before the release of GTA IV, gears of war 2 announced, battlefield is comming on the 360 and so is the new expansion of C&C and Quake Wars, I wouldnt call the 360 or ps3 dead.

I read the article today and I still ask.

Why are people quoting it?

It provides no links, no retail console sales which show despite the 360 selling less than the Wii or PS3 (duh, it's been out longer) it's still competitive, no context and in fact doesn't even give the results of the phantom survey, just a quote from an anonymous Melbourne retailer.
