Avowed: "Fantastic"

Avowed was a surprising delight to play for the first time. After a lot of questions about the shift in art direction from the teaser trailer, questions about the length, and a combat demo on the Xbox stage that had many asking if the game was earlier in development than expected, I’m happy to report that Avowed is feeling great, looking great, and offering a compelling story based on the early slice I played at an event.

My journey began just after the opening main mission in Avowed, and we’ve been sent on a task to find an Aedyran Expedition team. It turns out, as it often does with RPGs, that fate had other plans for them. Kai, our green-skinned companion who just happens to be voiced by Mass Effect’s Garrus Vakarian actor Brandon Keener, keeps things light-hearted with quips and remarks about this new area we’re exploring. The banter is welcome and sparse, only chiming in occasionally to make a quip, like when I paused to admire the view. More.

Good to hear this but, this IGN.🙃 I am looking forward to playing this next year and for some they are looking forward to playing on PS5.😏

That be me. Make those games as good as possible, then port it to PS5. Its ok take your time everyone can wait, nobody is buying xbox even if the game is a 11/10 lol.

How does this apply to Xbox, but not to PS when Sony puts games on PC?

If you are willing to wait for games to come to PS5................doesn't that prove that PC gamers are willing to wait for PS games rather than buying a PS5?

Yep. I will be very happy if it is exactly that.

Already read it's going to have smaller, well-designed game maps (like Outer Worlds) instead of just one big sprawl like many games of this nature, so I am super excited about that.

I also hope they replicate the not-too-long (like 15-20 hours) playthrough so I a.) don't get bored and b.) can try out multiple character builds. Don't get me wrong, I love a good long game, but I found it really refreshing to play the whole Outer Worlds, feel like I experienced everything, then go back and do it all over again with a different character making different choices.

I Think I replayed that game like 5 times in a row haha.

If the game does poorly it comes to PS5, if the game does well it comes to PS5. Only if it is unremarkable does it remain an exclusive. That said if I can't play it anywhere else I'll probably give it a shot.

I would have preferred pillars of eternity 3, but I guess this is better than nothing

Nice. I’ve really been liking what I’ve been seeing on this game. Am definitely eager to play it when it launches.

Most people buy games that own an Xbox. You feeling ok?

They're coming of The Outer Worlds, they have some big boots to fill.

PC gamers, xbox gamers, nintendo gamers whatever, please port the games to PS I highly welcome it. 🤝😆

I still plan on playing those, but I feel myself drawn more to games that have full voice acting for every character.

For example I'm playing Baldurs Gate 3 right now and I love that game and its characters.

I've heard this for Outer Worlds, played it, and it was a low budget garbage game.

It being Obsidian doesn't mean anything anymore. Everyone left the studio, and it showed in Outer Worlds.

Didn't like their last game, so this is wait and see.

@R4gn4r0k: I understand your point. I have been using games to learn Japanese and I really feel when voice acting is missing.

I have been trying to get in to ai to create voice acting for the games I like, even if rudimentary but it's complicated.

Wow that's amazing!

These past few weeks I've really been picking up Japanese:

• Seen 4 Ghibli films in cinemas, all with original dub
• Been playing Like a Dragon: Ishin
• Switch the English dub to Japanese dub in Ghost of Tsushima
• Started watching Shogun TV series and am close to the end now

I wanted to bundle all these experiences and I guess I know a few words here and there now, but it's a really tough language to learn as a Westerner, good luck!

@R4gn4r0k: yes, Its tough. I have the advantage of being completely fluent in chinese though as I used to live there.

So it's a bit easier for me when it comes to writing and vocabulary, because Japanese takes a lot of those from Chinese.

But yes, I still suck at it hahaha

Yeah I guess the main difference for me is the writing. I just wanted to take a bath of Japanese as it were, and yeah it really did started coming to me, I could link those foreign sounding words to words I know.

But when it comes to learning, really delving into a language the only things that work are:

- Writing words

- Writing sentences

- Reading aloud

And of course talking it with other people :D

Should play Shadow Tactics with Japanese voice actors while you're making the rounds.

Outer Worlds was pure garbage. So ill wait for reviews.

@R4gn4r0k: I have whole methodology for learning.

For me oddly enough the writing always came easy, I have an extremely good visual memory, so remember thousands of characters very easily.

But my pronunciation even until this day is weird in Chinese and when I pick up the phone in Chinese everyone always asks me where I am from. As they know immediately I am not Chinese from my accent.

When it comes to japanese, the pronunciation is much easier for us Spanish speakers, but the grammar is quite hard.

The writing is so much easier as they only use a couple of thousands kanji.

But the other way is true as well:

When you hear native Chinese people speak English or native Japanese people speak English, almost all of them will have an accent and almost none of them will speak it 100%.

It's kinda hard to learn sounds and tones when they are so embedded into someones upbringing and they get shaped by the people you grow up alongside.

Literally, the first language we speak is almost entirely done by mimicking the sounds people produce around us.

Gameplay wasn't great, combat was bad even, world was small and not very interesting, performance issues, ugly artsyle and character models, bulletspongy enemies, boring leveling system.. It just wasn't a great game to me. The pretty funny writing didn't save it for me.

If Avowed is the kind of "fantastic" that Outer Worlds was, easy skip for me.

@R4gn4r0k: yes, only people that learn the language very early or have an ability for accents will speak without an accent.

I absolutely don't have that ability lol. I have a latin accent in all my languages.

My wife on the other hand is very skilled with accents and has a very mild accent when speaking English or Spanish.

My kids crush it in all of those languages but they started since birth so it doesn't count, or so I tell them. Lol!

It got a 9-10 here at GS and a 85 meta for xbox and Ps4...maybe waiting for reviews is not the way forward for you 🤣😂

@sakaixx: Why should I care if Xbox games eventually make their way to PS5?

All that means is more money for Xbox, which means more games to play on Xbox, and Game Pass becomes a better and better value.

It absolutely does; some PC gamers are absolutely willing to wait.

That being said, I do think there's something to be said about how the Xbox is a product that replaces the PlayStation when the PC is more of a replacement *OR* supplementary product.

Ex. It's anecdotal but, none of my friends who game on PC play sports or fighting games on PC. They all play them on PlayStation. I'm sure some folks prefer those exact same games on Xbox but, chances are a PC gamer would choose PlayStation over the Xbox considering it basically has the same exact library day and date as your PC. That's the exact reason why my friends own a PlayStation as opposed to an Xbox; they basically already own one with a PC.

So much to break down in this thread lol.

Sony fans told you xbox guys EVERYTHING that would happen under your "We don't buy games anymore" Gamepass service mentality.

The stupidity of some of you is truly astounding.

You lot claim to know business but just look at Pedro, the former xbox champion defender, is reduced to being a spokes person for a newly established third party developer for Playstation games.

I said this a WHILE, ago but it didn't seem to sink in so let me say this again...XBOX IS DEAD!

Sony will take that money and keep building a stronger platform that doesn't include Xbox or GamePass. I don't think PlayStation will ever stop trying to take away the Xbox console market share. They'll gladly take the millions of customers and they'll be very happy to do so since consoles are their bread and butter.
