Back then did you like the original Sonic games or original Mario games more?

Just wondering. I havent played much of the sonic games or mario games except for the original 3 and I gotta say I think I liked the old sonic games a bit more. What do you guys think?

I've always been more of a Mario fan myself. I actually can't stand the older sonic games. I'm going to get destroyed for this, but I thought the Sonic Rushes were better

I had mostly Nintendo consoles prior to Sony and MS. Between Mario and Sonic, I guess it would be Mario. But, I preferred the Zelda games by far though.

The only original Mario I like a lot is the original one for NES. 2 through Super Mario World 2 got boring for me. Sonic on the otherhand, I have loved since '91, and still play all the classics even now. They just are way more fun to me from a gameplay and atmospheric standpoint. I'm basically the kid from this commercial.

i don't see the appeal in sonic games but I like the whole animals-turned-into-robots thing. My biggest problem is that you are supposed to go fast but if you do you just die all the time.GunSmith1_basic

If you're dying while running, then you probably aren't playing smartly. Role up in the spindash, memorize some enemies, feel it out, etc. Sonic games are actually forgiving in this aspect, unlike in Mario where I feel you have to memorize every little detail before you can start playing quickly.

i have a hard time believing Mario could lose this poll. I think nintendo haters are spamming this poll. Someone tell the Smash World Forum or someone to escalate the spam war

I had little experience with both the olden day sonic and mario games compared to most people because I haven't played these games when they released.I can't decide which is better.

I preferred Sonic. No platformer to date has given me as much fun as Sonic 2. I can start playing it right now, finish it in under an hour and just feel awesome. Mario doesn't do that, but he's still cool and all that.

So for me Sonic > Mario... today looking back at both series I think both were fun back in the days, however Mario kept producing excellent titles till this day while Sonic games varied from Good to mediocre..

Sonic. I've found Mario games to be a little boring and I hated the art style they had. Sonic on the other hand was awesomely fast and beautiful.

Never was a gamer back then, but now upon playing these games, i much prefer the Sonic series on the Mega Drive, and i don't really like the flagship title on the SNES - Super Mario World. I much prefer Donkey Kong Country over it aswell.

With the exception of Super Mario World 2, that game is in a league of its own. Now this, is a perfect platformer.

Mario is just the better designed game. Sonic is actually rather one dimensional most of the time.

Seriously though, you need to learn how to deal with the fact that people might have different taste than you do.

Back in the day when I was 6 I adored Sonic and I still love him today but recently I have loved the Mario 2D platformers but back in the 90s Sonic was the man for me but Super Mario World is the best game in the world.

That isn't necessarily true, as videogames back then were almost all revered as "hardcore." The term was more about speed/high score, than whatever it is now. Gaming wasn't as accepted back then as it is now.

Much preferred the Sonic games. Loved the speed and the attitude.

Except that's completely wrong. The hook of Sonic in the first place was the intense speed, that's what SONIC is. And if you're trying to say that modern Sonic games are all speed and no platforming... yeah, no. Play Colours or Generations.

I enjoyed both but was more into Mario games.
