I always thought the logo depicted Paine riding a horse. It turns out the horse was Yuna.

Just looking at this cover makes you wonder if Square actually made a sequel to FFX, or just slapped on some pictures of girls and called it a sequel.

They didn't even bother putting a background picture. Just gotta let the buyer know that they're buying FF3 and nothing else. I don't even think the logo represents anything from FF3.

Anyway that FFIII is how the FF boxart should be. Thats how every FF is in EU and JP and thats how it should be worldwide. Most people prefer that simple white background with logo instead of dreadful CG models. Come to think of it, i cant think of one US FF boxart that looks good.

That depends on how you define dark skin. Epyptians had a darker skin than most in Europe but they were not black.
