First there is no sacred distinction between what is kiddy and what is not. Kiddiness is not based on how whimsical a game is, how realistic it is or how it plays.

Kiddiness is based on who the given game is marketed towards.

Every single mario game has been aimed at 14 and unders, and people playing it based on nostalgia from when they were 13 and under (man children)

Banjo Kazooie has a bit more of the man children demographic, but its bright colors and simple story line will capture a new generation of kids.

Viva pinata, what can I say, it has its own saturday morning cartoon for crying outloud!

And if you don't like grand theft auto because it is too gritty or realistic, it does not mean you are immature, it does mean that you display some characteristics exhibited in ten year olds (that being said there are a few that play it too feel mature, but that demographic is smaller than you think).

Lastly there is nothing more wholesome about mario than GTA IV. If you are 19 and think mario is better because it isn't as gritty or realistic you really need to grow up. Now if you dislike GTA because of bs controls and repetetive missions thats another story.

Whimsical is such an awesome word. :P

I agree with the man child remark, though I'm not saying its true but I share that view.

Mario Galaxy was an underwhelming waste of my time, as was Mario Kart Wii, and I bet Smash Bros will be too, games I liked when I was young, dont appeal now. I'm not saying its immature to like them, but for hells sake, these past games wernt greater than todays, we was all easier to satisfy then, because it was all new.

Nobody cares because your wrong. And with a sub name like "Nuts and Bolts" for Banjo 3....... do you really think its kiddy. I mean "kiddy" games are devloped by adults and they could have any kind of mature reference in them. Just because a game is kiddy, doesnt mean its a horrible or boring game.

This is simply your opinion, I personally find GTA, Mario, Viva Pinata and Banjo to be fantastic games. How many of those games have you actually played?

Okay that doesnt make you immature, thats just a characteristic you share in common with many people under the age of ten. Thus you will enjoy games marketed towards them most likely

I do think that when you are younger you are pleased easier, but I completely disagree with everything else you said. There are plenty of retro games that are much better than today's games. And anybody who doesn't like Super Mario Galaxy doesn't like fun.

Halo 3 has colorful graphics and its rated M for mature. And yet hundreds of 5 years olds still play the game. Does that make Halo 3 a kiddy game? Were people know that under-age players play the game.

The level designs were impressive, and the music, but collecting stars, jumping around just doesnt do anything for me anymore, I use to love the platformer genre, but I cant even play them now.

The trivial bowser fights didnt help, I got to 60 stars then never touched the game again, no insentive whatsoever :(

Wow that was mean? have we ever met?

And do you not understand the concept of something being marketed to kids?

Just because you are in denial about your enjoyment of kiddy games, doesn't mean you have to say mean things about me.

[QUOTE="YearoftheSnake5"]Your argument is old and pointless.familycircusfan

Your whole life is pointless if you spend it making statements without anything to back it up.

Well, that probably wasn't the best choice of words on your part. You were talking about mature and immature gamers, again?

And, there is no point to your argument. So what if people play Mario, Banjo, and Viva? If the game is fun, people will likely play it. They can still play GTA, Halo, FEAR, Oblivion, MGS, The Godfather, and other so-called "mature" titles. There's nothing wrong with games seeming kiddy. The basic question is, whether or not the game will be FUN to play.

In the case of Mario, Banjo, and Viva Pinata - yes.

First off, its should be called light-natured or family friendly, not kiddy. Kiddy is a direction that Dora the Explorer would take, where it based on very specific area. Frankly those aren't directed solely to 14 and under, they are directed at a round up group of kids to adults. Everyone can grasp the scope of a Mario game, or Viva Pinata game. I can engage adults, while being colorful and cute to child.

Not likeing something thats gritty has little to immaturity, its all to due to likes and dislikes. If you base facts around something off that than it immaturity, same goes with opposite side.

And that manchild thing, I don't have to say more do I?

Every single mario game has been aimed at 14 and unders, and people playing it based on nostalgia from when they were 13 and under (man children)

I'm sorry, but Mario came out when? 1986? That was when I was born! :o And guess what, I still play Mario to death. I'm sure a majority of mario fans are adults and late teenagers.

Banjo Kazooie has a bit more of the man children demographic, but its bright colors and simple story line will capture a new generation of kids.

Halo had bright colors, Gears of War had a simple story (so simple that it was practically non-existant)

Viva pinata, what can I say, it has its own saturday morning cartoon for crying outloud!

Sonic had his own Saturday morning cartoon shows. Heck, even MORTAL KOMBAT had it's own Saturday morning show!

And if you don't like grand theft auto because it is too gritty or realistic, it does not mean you are immature, it does mean that you display some characteristics exhibited in ten year olds (that being said there are a few that play it too feel mature, but that demographic is smaller than you think).

Sometimes we just want to get away from realisim and grittiness and go lose ourselves in a world of fantasy to relax and get our mind together.

Lastly there is nothing more wholesome about mario than GTA IV. If you are 19 and think mario is better because it isn't as gritty or realistic you really need to grow up. Now if you dislike GTA because of bs controls and repetetive missions thats another story.

I'm sorry, but are you telling us what to like and what not to like? Since when do you have the power to dislike something that we grew up with since our younger gaming days?

First there is no sacred distinction between what is kiddy and what is not. Kiddiness is not based on how whimsical a game is, how realistic it is or how it plays.

Kiddiness is based on who the given game is marketed towards.

Every single mario game has been aimed at 14 and unders, and people playing it based on nostalgia from when they were 13 and under (man children)

Ironically, more people play Mario that are over 14 than under 14. So I am afraid you are another teenager who is insecure about their masculinity. All the games you mentioned are aimed at everyone. That means people over 14 as well - otherwise it would say "ages 0-14." If you didnt realise that already, I pity you.

As for your last paragraph, GTA is not gritty and realistic. It's a game. Nobody is saying that Mario is better because its not gritty and realistic. They are computer games. The keyword here is "games."

This is just another poor attempt at flamebait. It doesnt matter what you play, as long as you enjoy it. I dont understand why people like you should accuse people of being inferior because their tastes in games differ. Its ironic that you are telling people to grow up. You might consider heeding your own advice next time.

I bet you started playing before you hit your 13th birthday? So whats your point?

Banjo Kazooie has a bit more of the man children demographic, but its bright colors and simple story line will capture a new generation of kids.

Halo had bright colors, Gears of War had a simple story (so simple that it was practically non-existant)

Halo's bright colors weren't stars, killer plants and farm animals they were weapons, gears' story was simple but about war. Its marketed towards adults

Viva pinata, what can I say, it has its own saturday morning cartoon for crying outloud!

Sonic had his own Saturday morning cartoon shows. Heck, even MORTAL KOMBAT had it's own Saturday morning show!

Are you really gonna argue that viva pinata isn't kiddy?

And if you don't like grand theft auto because it is too gritty or realistic, it does not mean you are immature, it does mean that you display some characteristics exhibited in ten year olds (that being said there are a few that play it too feel mature, but that demographic is smaller than you think).

Sometimes we just want to get away from realisim and grittiness and go lose ourselves in a world of fantasy to relax and get our mind together.

So do eight yearolds. It is a kiddy characteristic to create fantasy worlds where a plumber flies around from planet to planet.

No I am not telling you to like or dislike anything.

"Since when do I have the power to dislike something that we grew up since our younger gaming days?" WTF that makes zero sense. Learn to structure a coherent thought.

Quofan

You are just plain wrong about all the games I mentioned being aimed at everyone. Nintendo makes bright colorful games to appeal to little kids.

VP has a saturday morning cartoon show to help sell itself to little kids. I dont really think you can argue against it.

Okay the departed is just a movie. And so is kung fu panda. Are they at the same level of realism?

Banjo 3 is not kiddy. If anything it's a parody of kiddy games.

[QUOTE="familycircusfan"]

First there is no sacred distinction between what is kiddy and what is not.

Kiddiness is based on who the given game is marketed towards.

Hewkii

that's a contradiction.

No sacred distinction =/= no distinction at all.

Failure.
