My personal impression after 50+ hours of gameplay.

1. The only noteworthy content in this game is its 12-hour main story. Seriously. The rest is just grinding and fillers to hunt for additional skill points. Secondary activities are so uninspired - they lack any meaningful background stories, unlike AC. Without those fillers the game would be bloody short. Don't get me wrong, that 12-hour main story is pretty good, the entire game is kinda designed to rush you through it, because nothing else, meaningful and important happens. Secondary activities are just pure grinding:

I think it's no spoilers just to mention those because they have almost no background stories behind them, so you risk really little by checking them:

- Save 12 firemen across the city. Meaning that a fireman will be somewhere in the city surrounded by thugs which you need to beat up.

- Destroy like 15 enemies vehicles of different type each pursuing them with your bat mobile across the city.

- Find a destroy enemy towers, military bases, etc.

- The only interaction with Penguin will be through finding his weapon cashes and destroying them. We will have no opportunity to kick the shit out of Penguin himself (I am not sure about this one as I didn't complete it yet).

and some 6 more secondary quests with a very similar designs.

LAME.

2. No boss fights. Almost all interactions with villains are through cut scenes.

3. Villains are f*cking annoying. They are not witty, they don't tease Batman or make fun of him like in AC, but they just whine all the time their really tiresome threats. "Weh Weh Bitmin you destroyed another our outpist, Bitmin surrender you will never win weh weh" Something like that. Especially Arkham Knight. The only thing he does is just whining via radio all the time instead of confronting Batman, creating impression that both Scarecrow and AK are very insecure, which contrasts a lot with this whole menace they pose. People that have the situation under such a tight control, shouldn't whine that much and make motivational speeches to themselves.

4. Riddler challenges are really uninspired. They are very easy to solve, and usually are straightforward - use a right combination of gadgets, done. But here where frustration comes, most of Riddler chalneges are impossible to find without Riddler's informants. There is no way to detect tiddlers trophies at a distance or see them through walls. AC you can actually locate half of trophies without any help, but not AK. Riddles are just unfairly hidden and you have no tool to find them, and beating Riddlers informants is really boring as they usually appear not even in groups of thugs like in AC, but in groups of 2, maximum 3 thugs.

5. This is very a few amounts of villains in this game, basically just two, AK and Scarecrow, the rest just never get enough attention or background stories to be considered as such. In the entire game I barely found any old face to kick ass of lol. What is more frustrating is that many villains are mentioned in the Riddler's puzzles, and many times you find evidence of their presence, but they never appear in the game. WTF. Don't get me wrong, the other villains ARE present but you interact with them through those grinding secondary activities mentioned in point 1`, you listen to them via the radio, but you never see them for real, a very few exceptions aside. It's not like AC where you meet Cat Woman, Two Face and Calendar Man just in the first 10 minutes of the game.

I don't get where all those 9s come from, because the only meaningful and interesting story in this game is the main 12-hour plot. This game severely loses in content quality to AC.

Yeh I don't know, I am taking a break from AK. I have main story like 80 percent complete with most of secondary activities done, and I still didn't have any boss fight yet. And if there is a final boss fight, it's still not enough compared that in AC we had like 7+ boss fights.

If it makes you feel better GS gave it a 7.

But if you say the focus is just on AK and Scarecrow then it sounds kind of weak.

Plus no "boss" fight is not much of a loss for me but we all know the Mr. Freeze was the best boss fight , and something similar might have been good.

Obviously you haven't tried the travesty that is Arkham Origins Blackgate.

Do I think it's better than Asylum and Origins? Yeah. Asylum is a poor Metroid game with some fantastic combat and stealth sequences. Origins is City but paced much more poorly and larger for the sake of it.

There is one boss fight in the game... but it's a tank battle (Boring). Actually now that I think about it, there is actually two, and both are tank battles.

Gotta disagree. This is the ultimate Batman game for me and my favorite of the Arkham series. So much fun. There was a little too much "tank" gameplay, but I love this game.

I'm quite surprised that a Rocksteady game is getting so much negative feedback. They were really pushed to get this thing out the door.

@gameofthering: Dang, thats pretty crazy. I was joking with people when i asked which is best Batman game, Arkham Knight or Arkham Origins. I answered, neither!

Sucks, it even looks like they used the same engine as last gen. Not sure why they couldnt have spiced it up some if they did use same engine, they would have had the money.

Dang seems i was right, they all use the same Unreal Engine 3.

So we have Batman Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins, and now Arkham Knight all used same unreal engine 3. Now thats what i call rehash.

I only played 5 hours so far (stupid PC version), but that small amount of time was infinitely more enjoyable then all the crap that happened in Origins.

It's not only bat mobile sections, secondary activities just don't connect with the main story at no point. A few villains that are in the game don't compete and don't collaborate with other, unlike in AC, when Penguin was holding captive Mr Freeze, and fighting against Joker, and Joker was holding and distributing Venom supplies and Dr. Strange was supplying weapons to Joker, etc. etc.

good thing i refunded it, will probably buy it on some steam sale later on, not in the mood of giving them $60 anymore.

To be honest the series for me was better from first game to last as far as Origins, but this is definitely not the worst, dare I say better than City, not sure if I'd place it ahead of Asylum though, not yet anyways.

It's the weakest Rocksteady Batman game to date.

But weakest batman game? Beyond the fact that Blackgate and Origins exist, there is still the part where Batman begins had a video game, Batman Vengeance was a thing, Batman Rise of Sun Tzu was a thing, Batman Forever was a thing. Batman's had games a lot worse than Arkham Knight.

But Arkham Knight is absolutely the Dark Souls 2 of its franchise. The Metroid Prime 3. The Halo 3. The Uncharted 3. It's a disappointment when held up to how much better thought out its predecessors are in Asylum and City.

Weaker than Origins?? I don't think so. I haven't finished AK yet so I can't really say if it's the weakest Rocksteady Batman game, but so far I think I'm enjoying it as much as Arkham City (however I prefer Asylum over City).

I heard Batman is not the star of the game, he is an accessory for the Batmobile, it that true?

If so maybe in the next game the villian will be the Batmobie once rogue AI has been put on it. I would laugh.

I decided to buy payday 2 crimewave edition instead of Batman... I'll get to it at some point, thankfully after some patch work has been done as I hear issues are now creeping up on ps4.

It's a little disheartening to hear it's not living up to the hype, but it's 2015 and AAA games rarely live up to their hype.

Can't believe that shit still runs at 30 FPS, that game is not good looking or taxing at all. And on PS4 it still dips.

At least it has like 16x AA on it, but c'mon, 60 FPS should have been the goal.

I would argue that Batman: Arkham Origins, If that does not Count (seen as a spinoff) then yeah, AK is the weakest entry.

There are boss fights... but most of them involve :

fight waves of enemies ---> weaken boss --> boss recovers --> repeat

Boss fights are terrible in this game. Utterly terrible.

I'm enjoying the game, but I'll be first to admit there's missed opportunities rife throughout. I don't know how I feel about the game in comparison to City and Asylum, because, well.....the whole game isn't out yet. Give it a year when all the combat challenges and DLC hit and I can buy it all in one package, and I can make a judgement.

The last game in this franchise I played was Asylum. I never played City and Origins, and those two seek to be the ones that player adore.

As far as Knight goes, it definitely plays very well, and I really enjoy it, but I do think that the open world is detracting from its design focus a fair bit. Was it like this in City and Origins?

Arkham Knight by far has the greatest understanding of Batmans character,

The way they put Joker in the game was fucking brilliant

But in terms of being an actual game, I think the Batmobile was shoe horned in way too much, tank battles were repetitive.

City opened up the gameplay and amde predator even more fun. More gadgets, etc.

When it comes to the open world, it's hit or miss.

In reality, Arkham City is just am empty, not too large world, filled with Thugs just standing around. Theres a dozen missions or so, and the Riddler stuff. And gliding/grappling around is awesome.

Overall, it's like RS didn't want to fully commit and has such, it can be abit divisive. The story stuff is in buildings, that act like dungeons I like AA and AC for different things though.

Origins is just average. They copied AC's world and pasted it over again, but now worse. Gameplay is weaker too.

@jhonMalcovich: 50+ hours? What have you been doing? I have around 30 and have completed everything and am just looking around for the last few Riddler trophies so I can finally see the ending.

And the boss fights are all so lame in the game. Not only are all the boss fights for Batman really bad and generic, but the most important ones are reserved for Batmobile which really sucks. The only interesting looking boss battle is locked behind collecting every riddler trophy :(
