It seemsBatman: Arkham Asylum 2is somehow going to be even darker than the first game.

According to a report fromComicBookResources.com, famed Batman voice actorKevin Conroy, who recently provided vocals for Batman: Arkham Asylum, discussed new details about the upcoming sequel fromRocksteady Studios.

Conroy, who spoke during a panel during the Chicago Comics & Entertainment Expo this past weekend, said the new game will have a similar tone to the animated movieBatman Beyond: The Return of the Joker. "It's really, really dark," Conroy said of the game in relation to the film. "It involves a lot of the villains and it goes to that area - it's that dark."

During the same panel, Conroy let slip that the villain Two-Face would be in the game. "There's a very complicated cast," he said after acknowledging his mistake. "A lot of villains are in it. I'll just leave it at that!"

Publisher Warner Bros. announced the sequel at last year's VGAs award show, just months after the release of the first game. The publisher has sincepurchasedthe majority of studio.

I'm really looking forward to this. Crossing my fingers there'll be some Co-Op with someone like Nightwing. :)

"Somehow"? An M rating could immediately make it darker. :P Easy to accomplish, some of the Batman comics were SIGNIFICANTLY darker than the game, especially the Frank Miller stuff. Just knowing that the game is coming is enough to make me happy, the first one was incredible. I finally got around to reviewing it last week.

Indeed. The games/movies are not dark at all when compared to some of the comics.

I just wished it had a better name. Arkham Asylum 2 is a no-go. Gotham Streets would have been much better.

Hopefully it is longer...Sadly no matter how good a game is, if it is short it will always be worth just a rent. Atleast IMO.

They could keep a T rating while still having darker themes, and profanity wouldn't really add to the game. If they leave it T it's left open to a larger audience, thus leaving it open for greater sales.

I don't get this "cater to kids for a larger audience" idea. Contrary to popular belief, the average age of gamers isn't 12-17... its 35, and they've been playing for 12 years. Link... I don't see a larger audience in any other age bracket than the adult audience. Its probably why many games are rated M, and why many M rated games do so well.

The fact the average gamer is 35 also makes me question why an AO rating is commercial suicide and why retailers refuse to carry AO games despite the market for them.

In my opinion swear words greatly enhance anything, because they are used in real life. It doesn't have to be gratuitous. If you've ever watched 24 you'd know that sometimes, when Jack's daughter gets kidnapped and his wife gets raped, words like "DAMNIT" just don't cut it. :P Also the game could be sufficiently dark as a T game, but if it managed to get more disturbing thematically and that warranted an M rating, I would be all for it. I don't care one iota about sales as long as it sells enough to justify a sequel, so if giving it an M-rating would make it better, to me, then woo. Publishers are the only ones who should care about ratings/sales and how they relate.

Not that I don't think a batman game can't pull off "really dark" It's just I don't want the game to feel like the developers tried too hard, the tone of arkham was fantastic. Going overly dark could always backfire.

Well I can, and not to be a jerk or anything, I don't really care about what games other people can play, as long as I can play them. If it would be a better game with an M rating (and I'm not even convinced that it would), then I am all for it.

Definitely this. To clarify, I thought Batman: AA was plenty dark and didn't compromise anything... if they try and go gratuitous for no reason, then it's going to feel forced, as you said, and suffer for it... but if they DID have a story that warranted an M and then held back on it to appease a certain demographic, then that would be a shame as well.

true, as long as they keep "really dark" in reason of batman. Since it's still following up the storyline in Arkham 1.

your sig makes me want to re-install Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines. I actually have the set up in my collection in a way that it draws the attention to the viewer, everyime I look at it I feel like installing it again... and that's even more incredible if we consider the fact that the game's boxart is terrible

Haha that's exactly what I was using as a barometer for how dark Batman can be. Those comics are intense. [QUOTE="sam_nintendo"] I've never really thought it added. Sometimes I think it fits, but sometimes (ME2) I've found it distracting. If it fits the story and characters then it might work, but an M rating for the sake of a little profanity is silly.

I definitely think it adds when it suits the character. ME2 is a good example. A lot of people didn't like Jack (she is one of my favorites), but how strange and unnatural would it have felt if Jack was saying "crap" and "damnit" all the time? Hmm how do I explain this... I just don't want a game to compromise from its vision. They should make the exact game they intended to make and THEN see what ESRB rates it, instead of aiming for a particular rating. Anyway this game will almost definitely be T anyway, you have nothing to worry about.

[QUOTE="Pelon208"][QUOTE="Yandere"]I swear they said this game will have Robin.muzik_mafia
Please please no robin

Maybe they'll make Robin badass... like evrything else in Arkham Asylum If it's M I'll soil myself with awesomeness CONSIDER what it'd be like

I don't really think there's a need for it to be M. I thought the first one was excellent just as it was.

[QUOTE="ohthemanatee"][QUOTE="Pelon208"]

lol lets be honest here, everytime that robins appear outside the comics. The final product sucks.

Pelon208

you got me there, not even Batman: TAS could portray Robin satisfactorily

And lets not forget this on

In Robin's defense... the scenes that didn't include him sucked ass too.

Robin can be a pretty cool guy if done right. Just like Batman could've been a great game if done right, and Rocksteady proved just that.

This is the kind of design I'd like to see..
