Battlefield 3 - Has No Color

Well, first off isn't this alpha footage? I'm sure the engine will get better as the development cycle continues?

Also, I find that the colors they're using are fitting for the setting. I'm sure that as you move to different cities, the colors will change with the atmosphere.

God, threads, like this make me want to delete my account here ..... All arguments regarding game colors are just poinless.

Yeah, the lighting looks terrible. Not being sarcastic. It has a style. It's not realistic, but there are elements that the game is trying to be realistic. And the main part to look realistic is the lighting. Make a realistic looking game without realistic lighting = not good. It's trying to be both. Stylistic and realistic.

Well that's just one level. But yeah I have to agree it looks REALLY boring tbh.

just as boring as when i look outside my window. they tried to make it look like what real places look like. i think they succeeded.

Ah new footage is out today. Yes the buildings are very pale.

To me it looks better in the game than in reallife. :P I don't like the real colors that much.

Though, you're right I do like me some nice colors. I don't really care much when it comes to this game.
If I only have to play one colorless game this year, then it's fine :P

Let us All be Honest, Battlefield 3 looks Amazing but No one on here has the Guts to come forward and admit the game has bland colors, so far. For example, comparing the two screens below, both share similar color pallete, but people would auto-Thrash the other screen for lack of any color, just because it's not BF3, even though both share similar colors.

PS this is not a Graphics thread and dont turn it into one, we are all very tired of Graphics threads. and no Crysis pics wanted either

Both are monochromatic actually. The Killzone pic is just variations of the same colour.

That's because the arts yle aims for something that is realistic for the settings in which the gameplay takes place. It's crips 'n clean.

Well, Battlefield 3 hardly has color variations (from what we've seen), and there will be excessive use of swear words (confirmed by DICE). To my surprise, the game won't be criticized by the masses for these two facts, which is hypocritical *flashbacks to Killzone arguements*.

I say it's a realistic approach. The game will rock, regardless.

The footage is somewhere in Iraq and you expect rainbow colors?

They've only shown 1 level of battlefield and already you're assuming too much on the fact that everything will be fought in that area?

On topic: Many middle eastern cities lack tons of color. Many are just brown. DICE's lighting seems to override this and overexposure it till it's pretty much white.

Clearly it's similar to how Mirror's Edge looked. I think it's more appealing in my opinion. They will probably turn down the lighting exposure in places with actual color to be had besides brown.

I have to agree. It's color palette doesn't look realistic if it's suppose to be the Middle East. Arma 2: OA looks far more realistic.

Much better imo.

Uh oh. Guaranteed 7-7.5 now.

BF3 has colors that are true to real life desert environments. Not all games have the luxury of Hawaii like settings like Crysis, where they can display the pretty trees and blue oceans as backdrops.
