Battlefield games are incredibly overrated.

why because they have anti vehicle weapons? thats not massive skills, thats rock paper scissor classes. You dont even need to communicate, you just need a proper mix of classes.

In games like COD and halo at the high level you have to be constantly calling out targets and locations and have constant communication with your team. Its not like "ok one of us picks SMG class, one assault rifle, one sniper.... lets do this!"

markinthedark

And how many times have you taken down a hellicopter with less than 2 or 3 attempts? Good players don't need a rolling commentary to know what to do or where to be. Do you realise you can spot targets for other players to see?

I dont know... because i could never invest heavily in any BF game. It was slow as molasses, and i would outshoot people in my sleep. Do you even need to shoot down the chopper, you just sit in a bush and kill people all day.

and i own 3 of them, one i borrowed. But played 4 in total.

Yes you do need to shoot them down, especially the Apache's. I think you're the problem not BF but whatever.

So true. EU used COD4 with ProMod while America uses Black Ops Vanilla. COD is a joke regardless but at least EU used the only version worth playing.

Gibsonsg527

The worst part was when he tried to show his skills by somehow comparing it with Quake Live. Probably he is one of those who just go into a BF match killing people randomly, getting the highest kills for his team but always loosing because he never gets the flags.:|

They are kind of like the halo vehicle maps where its a good time for messing around, but not in the least bit competitive.

I always hear about this fabled teamwork... but mostly it seems to boil down to if if anyone is willing to play as a medic and click on dead teammates (which isnt some sort of massive skill feat).

Its not played as a competitive esport, and if you listen to the radio chatter on something like 4v4 halo tournaments, the teams are infinitely better at communicating.

Battlefield is probably the most casual of all the fps games, i dont know why people think its some amazingly competitive online game... its slow, and overpopulated to the point where half the time you are killing someone that doesnt even know you are there. I have done my best to try to understand the love affair and watch youtube incredible skill videos (which dont exist). But half the time the people that are being shot at dont know whos shooting them because there are just so many enemies on screen.

Its not some sort of fps, where you need to be vigilant with your sound cues, super quick with your aim and in constant communication with your teammates to succeed.. Its easily the most casual of any fps game in recent memory.

markinthedark

You speak as if you're trying to decipher this unfathomable mystery behind people's appreciation of the series. Because if there's no league for competitive play, how on earth could anyone possibly be enjoying it? For this reason it is obviously overrated.

I like how it's supposed to be an insult to us that you can't tolerate people enjoying a game - in a way - you can't.

I'm drawn to the series as it allows me to play in whatever way and pace I feel like at the moment. I like the expansive maps. I like that the pace in general is more methodical. I like the many different options available to players and how it affects the flow of the game, that it makes the gameplay more dynamic. I like that there are alternative ways of helping your team complete the objective other than shooting people in the face. I like that it encourages teamwork. Etc. In short I like the way the game plays. Don't know why that basic concept is so difficult for you to understand.

But the last few COD games haven't sucked tho, in your opinion maybe, but the MW series has been great so far, and you can tell from all the shooters that are coming out trying to copy and "de-throne or kill Call of duty" why are they trying to kill something that sucks again?...oh right COD doesn't.

Implying that those who disagree with your stance are spiteful children is a pretty good way of convincing the reader that it is more likely to be true of you.

Not as good as just straight out confirming it like you did just then though.

The first video looks alike a 4v4, the last one looked to be a legit larger team map... even though the teams seemed strangely uneven.

But ill give you it might be recognized as an esport because i really appreaciate the help (i swear i searched for videos but didnt find them). Still im not willing to admit the level of teamwork is above that of a COD or Halo... as you cant really hear the team chatter.

But BF gets a bit more respect in my eyes as a result.

im operating on alot of prior experience to come to the conclusion. When you have a ton of people on the map sound cues are all but worthless, and when everyone is distracted by the larger picture it isnt horribly difficult to pickup kills.

if you are doing smaller 4 team maps, its a different issue... but when its a giant vehicle map, i just dont think any of those skills will translate well into many of the other fps games out there.

i actually despise call of duty. cant stand the franchise... but I think it gets undue hate, especcially from BF players, so i do sitck up for it. I find things like sound cues and aim to be more of a factor in COD.

Cod is a twitch shooter, you will win based on connection and luck, some gun skill, but games like battlefield and halo which require you to actually stay on target

You do realize medics don't have weapons to destroy most vehicles like tanks and choppers and seeing how BF is built on them, being just a medic won't get your far, that's why you need anti-tank classes.

What's wrong with it's slower pace, it was designed that way for a reason.

Overpopulated? Why do you think the maps are so big and have open space? So they can spread apart and flank. Also, BF is meant to have lots of players.

Single player games have enemies shooting at you and you don't know who until you see them, same happens for multiplayer in games.

Sound is extremely important in BF, people can sneak up on you if you aren't aware.

Super quick with aim? Seeing how it takes a fair amount of bullets to kill someone unlike COD, you need it badly. And hit detection issues that plague various games make it worse.

I would like to see you do Rush in Bad Company series by yourself against a whole team and see if you can arm a crate and take on 10+ players at once without teamwork.

I don't understand TC.

im operating on alot of prior experience to come to the conclusion. When you have a ton of people on the map sound cues are all but worthless, and when everyone is distracted by the larger picture it isnt horribly difficult to pickup kills.

if you are doing smaller 4 team maps, its a different issue... but when its a giant vehicle map, i just dont think any of those skills will translate well into many of the other fps games out there.

markinthedark

Well this would be a pretty gosh darn worthless discussion then because I've got about as much experience with BF competitive play as you do.

But sure it'd probably work better with less players. So don't play 32v32, problem solved?

Oh you like Call of Duty were they throw the enemies several feet in front of your face?

It's funny because my friend filed a similar complaint even before playing the game, now hes totally hooked and loving Battlefield.

James161324

i actually despise call of duty. cant stand the franchise... but I think it gets undue hate, especcially from BF players, so i do sitck up for it. I find things like sound cues and aim to be more of a factor in COD.

EDIT: and ive probably spent less time playing COD than i have BF.

Cod is a twitch shooter, you will win based on connection and luck, some gun skill, but games like battlefield and halo which require you to actually stay on target

again i havent played enough cod to know the connection issues. I do know after sucking at cod then practicing at halo... i played a few cod games and did rather well though. As i think the physical skills helped.

I cant say i noticed BF requiring me to stay more on target than cod, seemed like they both had about the same amount of shots for a kill. But halo definitely requires an added level of control.

thats sort of the normal game type though isnt it? thats why its supposed to be better than other fps?

If you are doing 4v4 matches, its basically call of duty.

I don't understand TC.

mitu123

I probably couldnt because i dont know what arming a crate is. I mostly sat bad and racked up sniper kills when i had BC 2.... but it was alot easier than any other game i was used to.

I feel like at best BF could be COD lite. Vehicle maps on halo are noob maps.... I only play them if the people im playing with want to. I dont find them challenging.

It just seems like out of every fps ive played BF has the least importance on aiming.

So Battlefield is bad for competitive play because it can do the same thing a game that's good for competitive play can do, but (presumably) doesn't do something well that other games can't do at all?

I'm just gonna go to bed now.

So the general consensus is if you took a team of BF players, and a team of CSS players and threw them both into a quake live instagib match the BF players would win handedly?

Sounds like you don't understand the objective of Rush, which is to arm crates if you can't blow them up with explosives which always take longer but is doable. Oh, another Recon player, there are lots of Recons that don't do teamwork, and it'll be virtually impossible for a Recon to take on a whole team without teamwork.

But most BF maps are built on vehicles, and you don't find the jets in BF2 and Apache and Blackhawk in BC2 hard to take down? Or maps with bunch of tanks and play as a non take out vehicle class?

Trying to play BF2 without aiming is impossible, LOL. And then there's the bullet drop where they can drop depending on how far they go.

Its just not known for that type of gameplay.. so for a smaller team combat style battle i think COD players would probably have the upper hand.

I dont know the objectives, but i know racking up kills is much easier on a BF game than any other fps game.

but alot of fps games have objective maps.

Im not saying you dont need to know how to aim in BF, im just saying the ability to aim seems to have less emphasis than other fps games.
