Blah blah blah blah my GTX 970 runs it on Ultra at well over 60 faps and 1080p blah blah blah consoles suck.

There you go now that I have met the bs sw thread requirement.

Who has played the beta? Thoughts? Impressions? What platform? Lets share tags, psn ids, origin ids, and party up if people want to shoot the shit and play a game, you know the thing we bought these machines for.

Anyway I only got to play one match before dinner, and my initial reaction was "lol there is nothing to the shooting in this?", haven't played or read much more on it, although I do think people have said that the game is unbalanced in the Empire's favor? Who knows

Game's audio is on point though.

The presentation is what will sell people on this game.

The gameplay itself seems pretty basic for a shooter in 2015.

Platform: PC and PS4 (Could play Xbox One version but meh).

General Issues:

  1. EA Servers are crap. Half the time when I connect to a game, I get instanltly. "Connection to EA Servers Lost. Online features will be disabled".
  2. Empire is OP compared to the Rebels or people are just new and don't know what to do as Rebels.
  3. Texture pop in is noticeable when using a mechanical drive. Installing it on SSD does solve most of the pop in.

PC Issues:

  1. Mouse acceleration is active and there is no easy method to disable it.

Conclusion: The game is pretty easy to get into and yes it is pretty casual. Still a fun game and I think it will please many people. The aim assist on consoles makes the game super easy to shoot with. Just shoot in the general direction and you will get hits.

I'm not buying it though. Once the film is out and Star Wars hype goes down a little, the price of the game will drop massively.

Wanna know about the longevity of the game , i mean does it has the potential to entertain you for like +100hours?

(Can't play it , my internet connection speed sucks ass, by the time the download finishes the Beta is over :D)

God dammit...

This is pretty unacceptable for a shooter, and yet a number of recent ones have had issues with mouse acceleration

Tried both PC and PS4 version. Going to get PS4 version. Yes the PC version looks better but when using my controller too many people were killing me. PC version they need to separate controller players from keyboard/mouse players. It can't be that hard to implement.

At least on PS4 it's all on a level playing field. Plus all my friends are on PS4.

Personal impressions from a couple of sessions today:

  • Game looks great! Did not expect it to come so damn close to the hype trailers we were shown.
  • The maps (in the beta) are pretty cool and from what I can tell very well balanced for both sides.
  • The mix of fast paced + objective based gameplay is quite addictive. Add that the game looks great, runs great (very solid fps performance on the PS4) and sounds exactly how a Star Wars game should and you have a great combo for fans and general gamers!
  • I have yet to play with the vehicles but the gunplay, despite very simplistic, is quite fun.
  • I love the mechanics from PvZ: Garden Warfare for special attacks/weapons being fixed on specific buttons with cooldowns.
  • The fact that the aforementioned feature is not tied down to a class like in PvZ and is also customizable has some great potential for the more tactical modes.
  • The bigger maps feel like a proper battle from the series, with laser passing by you in a multitude of directions, ships flying by, AT-T's moving along and causing massive destruction, etc.

All in all, the short time I had with it was fun and I'm looking forward for more! :)

-----------

Regarding the Empire vs Rebels thing: I've played with both sides and won with both sides. The easier wins for me were in fact with the Rebel side.

Though I do agree, that perhaps on the Hoth map the Empire side has an easier time as they don't have to defend the objectives as much (they just need to make sure the Rebel side doesn't activate them).

I have:

i5 760

12GB RAM

GTX 680

And I ran it on ultra between 50-60fps @ 1080p and it really does look good. So it's not that badly optimized.

That said...while it looked nice...I didn't find it to be all that spectacular gameplay or fun wise.

Seriously? :D i don't think anybody would play with a controller on PC when it comes to FPS genre.

Playing with friends adds more layers of fun , so go with PS4.

Battlefield has something resembling recoil, bullet drops, the need to ADS so hip firing isn't always ideal, bullets drop, all that jazz.

Battlefront at least from what I played was as straight forward as point, shoot, lasers hits directly. It's mostly been very accurate weapons with no recoil, no need to ever reload (they overheat I guess), no ammo, and the ttk was fairly quick, if not a nudge more than CoD. Which yeah sure Star Wars blasters aren't guns, they don't travel, they should be more accurate blah blah blah, but the trade off there is that the gun mechanics are nothing.

To be fair it was one match, so I don't see how they offset it. Halo for instance has super accurate weapons with some of the most ridiculous aim assist. It's offset because of power weapons, the way the maps were designed with trick jumps, the differences between the weapons and what they were best suited for (except for the AR being universally useless), vehicles, the way the radar works in that game, and the 4 v 4 nature inherently lending itself to more coordination with a team. My match was more like a sunday stroll of just shooting.

PC version: Just played the beta and it was okay. Definitely underwhelming given what we've seen in the previous 2 games and even in the cancelled Battlefront 3. The main problem I have is that it feels very restricted and limited compared to the previous games. Yes the game looks great graphically but there are a bunch of little things that ruin the experience. Like having 20 vs. 20 players instead of Battlefield's 32 vs. 32. This could easily be done on PC. Plus shooting mechanics are very poorly designed. Maps are very unbalanced as well since imps have always won on every Hoth match I've played. The biggest gripe I have which I wasn't even aware of before the beta is the vehicle system. Instead of jumping into vehicles like in the previous games, you have to hope that by chance you'll stumble upon a vehicle "power up" which will let you play in the vehicle. Really dampens the experience and makes it feel like you're playing an arcade game. The different modes they have don't seem that interesting as well. I think I'll pass on this at launch day and buy it a few months later if it's still active and has some new content like Clone Wars. It really seems like they've tried to cater this one to the casual crowd with things like regenerating health and infinite ammo which is unfortunate.

I'm loving it so far. The gameplay mechanics are great and responsive, the audio is amazing, the graphics are among the best I've seen on PS4 and I've had zero problems with lag or anything which is a first for a DICE game.

You know what sucks about almost every Star Wars game?

The music

John Williams has made great music for Star Wars, but god damn, I'm so tired of hearing it. Games are so much bigger now, I find it inexcusable of them to simply copy and paste music from the movies into these games. They should be making original soundtracks for these games, give them an identity of their own.

I've played it for an hour and a half just now and I enjoyed it only to a very limited degree.

The core gameplay is too vanilla for my liking.

I don't think there's enough variety in gunplay.

Using shit graphics and the fact it's hard to spot enemies on hills to your advantage FTW.

I also think that playing this on a console with shit resolution and abysmal turning speed is the most pointless thing in the history of humankind since the Sisyphus.

I just cannot see people playing this game for entire months.

Even if millions of casuals will buy it, I just cannot imagine them sticking to it for very long.

I don't want to play it again! This one session is enough.

I've definitely enjoyed Rainbow Six a lot more.

In that game I had a feeling that what I do truly matters.

I don't think Battlefront rewards skill. It's just mindless shooter that's all about muscle memory and twitch reactions.

Would have been more fun if they did Battlefield: Star Wars

It's fun, but shallow. Sadly I will pass; probably would have bought it if they didn't do the beta lol

And since when did they start callings demos "betas"...that's a copout if I ever heard of one. Oh well, can't complain about a chance to try out the game!

Is it worth playing? I'm too lazy to boot up my PS4 or PC for it.

From what I saw in vids, it looks like Battlefield: Future Edition. Am I wrong in that (aside from the ship combat stuff which looked cool)? Not that it's a bad thing, but I'm not really into Battlefield.

The beta is a bit shallow but I'm still having fun with it. I just hope there will be enough content in the final build to warrant a day one purchase for me. It's a pretty mindless game which is like the older Battlefront game that I enjoyed.

I get about 65 FPS average on Ultra at 2560x1440, there's no Crossfire support yet but I suspect when there is it will be around 120 FPS.

Yep, that's really all it comes to in regards to multiplayer games. Which platform you have the most friends on. Forget about resolutions, frame rates, ultra graphics etc, friends are the critical factor for MP games. Games are made for you to have fun on after all.

and X1 would be next in line since 3 co-workers will be playing it on that. Maybe I'll get PC when it's on a serious sale, like $10.

Agreed.

Don't know if you've played FFXII, but I always throught a lot of those tracks would fit perfectly in a Star Wars game.

No, you should decide what you want and the rest be damned, you will make new friends. Buying what your friends have or are playing on is frailty and shows a lack of independence of self decisiveness in purchasing decisions.

As a huge fan of battlefield and a huge fan of star wars I can safely say this game is clearly not for me. It is a super basic shooter and it doesn't seem like the final product will have much content.

Also, the flying sucks. Maps are too small to have these fast ass vehicles and they're boring to fly.

I did and PS4 version is what I want,

I'd rather play with people I know than randoms. I quite playing pretty much any MP game if I dont have people I know to play with. This goes for SONY, MS and PC.

I spend 8 hours a day in front of a PC too, sometimes I just like to chill on a console.

I know you must have a similar feeling with that massive collection of console games you have.

Oh, and I bet you though that comment went over my head didn't you?

I played a good bit on the Playstation 4. And it was very underwhelming.

Maybe some of the game modes included with full release will be interesting, but for now, there's nothing new to the table. I did like the menu navigation though, very sleek.

If we're talking about online friends, then sure, who gives a ****.

IRL friends should be your top priority when it comes to anything MP related. That's why the 360 will always be > PS3 for me.

If I had gone with the PS3 my MP experience would been one gigantic, empty, hole. No IRL friends, no Halo.
Only Kilolzone, and the 3 people who played it.

Same. I know more people who are going to play on PS4.

Yup, that's why PS4 wins my vote for platform for multiplat MP games.

Seems like the perfect game for you. It's mindless, requires no skill, has little content, and is very anti-consumer, and looks very pretty.

The game is very very basic, a really really stripped down version of Battlefield. It looks great but the environments are extremely boring, they could be more grand in scale but aren't filled with much going on. Music on repeat gets boring, sound effects are decent enough, I'll play some more tonight but I don't see myself buying the game or playing it again after the beta. Playing on PC as well by the way.

A lot of really weird balancing issues they need to iron out.

The game is exactly what you would expect out of Battlefront, shallow and pretty straight forward. The shooting mechanics are pretty good, a nice difference from the standard ADS focused military shooters.

Overall it's fun, it's just not particularly great.

I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't play the maps during the alpha.

I give them credit, bugs were fixed. Less crashes.

Balancing needs work.

So nobody mention the crazy fast loading time?

So the main points of this beta is:

Crazy fast loading time

Good fresh gameplay that make sense: Pickup is a cool idea and it's not prooven to me; Ultra futuristic accurate weapons are cool and I'm suprise I do not whine about no recoil so I mean that it could have been expected; Vehicle and stuff are interesting and deadly; Cards are cool and nice idea.

Some bugs

Some problems with fairness due to leveling up for stuff

Nice sp mode that would give me a lot of fun.

Possible lack of content for the price

So if the game was not nagged to me at the point I've already uninstalled it, I'd for sure play it and buy it.
