Both consoles are on par with one and another on everything but games. Playstation 4 has better exclusives and has access to many more games.
The primary purpose of a console should be games. So PS4 is better.
(Hardware wise: the original Xbox One is inferior to the PS4 too)
^ ^ This.
Also the PS4 UI is more streamlined and better suited to quickly accessing your games and play them.
There's also Share Play that's actually a useful that no other system has.
Yes, the UI looks like it was designed by a 12 year old.
PS4 has: better experience for multiplats (Xbox X and PS4 Pro don't count for much, as the userbase is minimal for both), better OS, better prices on sales, better games being given on PS Plus, Share button, it's not a PR mess, Share Play is a really neat experience not available anywhere.
Xbox One has: Streaming apps, I guess...
But even if none of it was the case, it wouldn't matter... as a console is for playing games and there's no contest that sony is the clear winner in this.
Games are my main focus when owning a console but I have other reasons why I have gone PS over Xbox, and that was last gen. I got screwed over pretty hard by Microsoft last gen with the painfully huge POS that was the 360. 360 had all the best games at the time (Oblivion!), an awesome new controller, and even a wave of unique RPG's only on the console. All that doesn't matter if the console doesn't work. I sent in 2 consoles for repair before MS acknowledged the issue, and 1 after.
All in all I lost about $1000 to Microsoft on the 360 (2 $400 RROD consoles, 2 controllers, shipping for repairs ect.) And at the beginning of this gen I didn't even care about the cloud or 24 hour online check ins, I just got a PS4 because I was unsure of the manufacturing defects that may be in the X1 (their where none) but at the time, I wanted a new console and didn't want to risk losing a large chunk of money again.

@quadknight: No, you're wrong. If I hand over the game, my friend doesn't need plus....but if I want to play a game of FIFA, or any other game WITH my friend, he needs plus. He cannot play the game if I haven't started the game, and you can only share 60 minutes at a time.
Xbox let's my friend download ANY game I have, play it whenever he wants, for as long as he wants and he does not need live to play online. Meanwhile, I can play another game, the same game as him or one of his games...
My friend OWNS my games, and I OWN his for as long as we decide to share.
Its you who needs educating..
@sealionact: No you clown, when one account has PS+ the other sharing account doesn’t need PS+, since it piggy banks off the first shared account. I share my account and games with a buddy of mine who doesn’t have PS+ and he gets to play all my games including multiplayer games.
GTFO here with that shit, it’s not a new feature and it’s nothing like Share Play. Go educate yourself and stop being ignorant and get a clue. You don't know what Share Play is and your ignorant ass is trying to equate it to game sharing ?.
Share play, remote play, not Windows based(hate Windows, just my opinion of course)... But really it's 99% about the games.
Besides the most important reason for owning a console, what else is there?

Games?
who needs games when you can watch a bastketball game and call your buddies on skype!
ha!
But you might want to play a game after you finished watching the game with you buddies. Can't you do both.

well based on only one video shown by the people who want to sell the game I cant even tell if the game is a stradegy game or not.
right?
hell for all I know Spiderman is not even in the game, despite my eyes seeing spiderman in a game play video of said game.

@quadknight: Share play is the most pointless feature on PS4...you don't need to remind me about it, I've used it and it's exactly as I described. You start a game, and (for whatever reason) you can pass the current game on to another player. 60 mins later, he/she is cut off. You can play a mp game together - as long as he has plus - or he can watch you play.
That's Shareplay.
What's the advantage of Shareplay, when I can play my friends games whenever I want, without needing plus?

Are you that dumb? What kind of stupid ass question is that?
Also how many times do I need to tell your that you don't need PS Plus to do game sharing on PS4 and play multiplayer games? As long as one person sharing the game has PS Plus both parties get it. Game sharing isn't a feature exclusive to Xbox PS4 has it and has had it since the PS3.
Share Play is useful due to the fact that anyone at anytime can jump into your game and play it. If you need help and you're struck on a particular boss, one of your buddies can drop in and help you. If you're trying to show a certain part of a game to a friend that doesn't have a game they can hop in and play it. It expires after an hour but you can restart a session immediately after it expires and continue from where you left off. It's a legit feature that PS4 has that is actually useful for gaming.
Please do some research or I'm going to block your ass. I hate arguing with people that don't have the courtesy to do research on what they are arguing about. You're looking stupid as hell trying to equate game sharing to Share Play. They are both totally different things and both features are available on PS4.
@quadknight: Doesn't matter how many times you tell me... You're wrong! How many times do I need to tell YOU that if your buddy wants to help you with that boss, he needs plus! You can play an MP game without him needing plus, but if you want to use Shareplay as intended, he needs plus.
The ONLY time I use gameshare is if I'm not sure if I will like a game, and I'll ask a friend to let me try it... I still need plus for that, and I have no idea how it's a plus point, when I can download the entire game using shared library....
Ps4 is more powerful than OG xbox one. It has more exclusives, more players, i like the controller more, i like the UI more, the store isnt complete dogshit like windows store, shareplay is awesome, pstv is pretty good deal, psnow is honestly not as bad as most people think
The only real advantage PS4 has over XB1 now is 1st/2nd party output (although it's not as dire as fanboys make out) & Japanese support (not much MS can do here).
Everything else, the XB1 ecosystem is the better.
How is that ecosystem doing for you? You play Sea of Flop anywhere I guess.

It's doing really well thanks... currently playing many games at a higher resolution/better quality than PS4.
And from what I hear, many people are enjoying Sea of Thieves too. Although not my cup of tea. But thanks for asking :)
The original Xbox One skimped on processing power to balance out the price because originally they thought including the Kinect was a great idea and that everyone would be wowed by motion controls, voice controls, watching TV, Skyping and everything but games. So they screwed up big time, and the games had to run at lower resolutions (900p when PS4 could do 1080p, 720p when PS4 could do 900p, etc). So yeah, PS4 had exclusives AND better-looking multiplats. That's why the X had to out-do the Pro.
@Fairmonkey: The ps store on ps4 is better than the windows store on xbox is that a joke? hows searching one letter scrolling to the next letter over and over than sorting though the results going?
The other problem is PS now isn't available in Australia or many other countries, where as Gamepass is

Not your cup of tea? Nah, that game is just bad, you know it too.
@vfighter: How is the UI better by miles and miles? I think UI is a matter of opinion. The store is a lot worse tho have you searched in the ps store at all?
So far it seems like
Games : PS4
Store: Xbox (try searching on ps4)
Apps: Xbox
Indie development: Xbox (recommend the cat games for toddlers they love it)
Controller: Matter of opinion
UI: Matter of opinion. (PS4 is simple, Xbox is laid out better, setting seems easier)
Game streaming Service: Xbox (Ps now isn't available to everyone and IP's are released on xbox gamepass)
Accessories: PS4
Hardware: X1X
Games with sub: PS4 has been doing better lately.
@def_mode: No... I don't play MP games. But I know of many people who are enjoying it. And it's only going to get better with more content :)
@npiet1: The UI is better because it's simple and it works. I still think the ps3 had the best UI though, MS UI,s are just cluttered messes.
And yes I've searched for games in the ps store, it's fairly easy, so what's the problem?
Controller, I agree it's all opinion as neither one is bad by any means, but the ds4 is such a huge leap over the ds3 and the Ones controller is a step backwards from the 360's I have to give it to the ds4. Again both are good at the end of the day.
Games, no question, ps4.
Apps...what does the One do that the ps4 doesn't? Honest question as the only apps I really is are Netflix and YouTube.
@vfighter: The app store difference is huge ps4 only has like 20 apps where as xbox has over a 100, from learning languages to over 20 free streaming apps which are mainly kids cartoons like mickey mouse etc. Xbox allows a lot of apps that are available on the windows 10 which I think is why they have the indie development section where anyone can make games for the xbox one, some one snuck a n64 emulator on it which I just missed out on. The problem with the searching is one letter scroll than choose another letter, than when the results are up its mostly dlc for rockband and Ive got to scroll though the results to find what I want.
I got both, so far owning PS4 has not been anything out of this world, exclusivez ! .... hmm, out of all those “mouthwatering” exclusives sony fanboys brag so much about I only have had a pleasant experience with TLOuR ( which is NOT a PS4 game, but a PS3 game ), Nathan Drake Collection ( oooops another series of PS3 titles ! ) specially because games don’t take like forever to load ( load times were shit in PS3, I could take a nap while the game loaded ) and that’s pretty much it, hell, Sony even manage to fvck up Killzone, oh yes, I have other PS4 exclusives, Bloodborne might be brilliant but It’s not my kind a game, The Order ? ... no comment ! HZD ? Can’t say anything about it since I haven’t played it yet, so nope, I don’t find PS4 that great. Multiplats are pretty much the same thing and both are at the same level.
@raugutcon: That's kind of how I feel. I had an xbox before a PS2, got the PS2 later when GOW came out. Loved GOW but didn't really enjoy the other hyped exclusives I played(I'm looking at you ICO). I got a 360 first last gen, got a PS3 for GOW and once again felt the exclusives were underwhelming and overhyped. I got an xbox one this gen(the kids love the dance games). Normally this is where I get the playstation console to play GOW and whatever exclusives I've heard were so great. GOW doesn't even seem like a GOW game at this point to me, so I probably won't be getting a PS4 at this time. It just feels to me like all the hyped ps4 exclusives all seem to be the same basic genre with familiar characters and settings cut and pasted in. They have high production values and look pretty, but the gameplay seems generic. It's like they make them specifically to what gets rated highly and forget about great gameplay and fun.
I had enough of uncharted by 3 the last of us 2 is one I'm waiting on. Xbox has the best racing games which is a genre I enjoy a lot. Halo is always worth the console alone for me. GOW looks incredible and guaranteed it sells even more systems for Sony.
I like all the consoles. Each for their own good traits. Xbox one S I feel has the best controller, the best UI, the 4k player, HDR, and on the X it's home to the best multiplats.
PS4 has really great exclusives.
Switch takes my console games on the go or on the couch off the tv.
**YAWN**
In a nutshell it's not. It's overrated especially if you don't care for the exclusives. Only exclusive I care about is the Uncharted series but even there I got bored of the series after beating UC3. This is not to say that games like God of War aren't good games....just not for me.
It seems as though most extreme playstation fans are having difficulty understanding how one can classify a game as being high quality but not someone's "cup of tea".... this is how I feel about God of War and if I'm being honest here the rest of the PS exclusives. But I will buy Spiderman when it releases and others have told me to pick up Horizon Zero Dawn.
So if I don't care about the playstation exclusives and have more interest in the Triple A multiplats (Far Cry 5 or Anthem anyone?) that are released then why do I care to get a playstation considering these points...
X1X has the best controller
X1X has the best online system
X1X allows me to play back-compat games...not all but still a good selection that get 4k enhancements for the X1X. Sony (and even Nintendo) does not support this feature. By the way believe it or not these are games that further adds to the library. Old you say? Depends on who you talk to. See a lot of narrow-minded and ignorant Sony zealots fail to see that with each generation you may run into new old or young gamers who never played these back-compatible games. So guess what? It's new to them and they have the option to purchase them individually or possibly play them through the Gamepass subscription. Me personally I know I missed out on a lot of 360 and even some OG Xbox games, so backwards compatibility and the option to purchase these back-combat games is just something that can't be ignored.
X1X has game pass which is hard to pass up... and no it's not the same as PS Now because you have to stream to play. With Gamepass you download and install your games to the internal or external hard drive and play...none of this streaming requirement crap found on PS Now. So to those of you trying to equate the two please stop and just accept that PS Now was a mistake and waste of time and money.
X1X has a blu-ray player (Yes it adds to the value of the console whether playstation extremists want to accept it or not unlike the ps4 pro)
X1X supports Dolby Atmos
X1X has IMO the better UI (The ps4 is a disorganized mess... and what's up with the search feature in the ps store....Really? Terrible.)
X1X is the most powerful console right now so it gets the best version of multiplats. By the way to the ignorant posters who love to hide behind PC when it fits their agenda to bash the X1X please spare me the whole, " Hahaha lol 30fps...hahaha you bought a 500 dollar potato lol, etc... The bottom line is I never have and never will have any desire whatsoever to game on a PC so in this regard the X1X is the best choice.
