Boring campaign missions, poor character animation, generic gun mechanics, generic characters, generic story, terrible multiplayer, etc. It's pretty to look at and mod though.Messiahbolical-
Just like GameSpot took it too far in one direction you took it too far in the other - Crysis at its core is a very well executed FPS.
Far Cry 3's campaign was so much more fun... running around taking over bases and looting. They definitely nailed the whole "island exploration" thing better. Crysis just got boring quick to me. I didn't enjoy the island nearly as much, there wasn't many cool places to explore, no looting, less to do... Maybe I'm being a bit harsh on Crysis. It's been a while since I've played it and I did enjoy messing with the nanosuit a lot. I just didn't enjoy the story, characters, enemies, etc that muchMessiahbolical-
Far Cry 3 is a real sandbox game where you can go to previous areas you've been to at will and in realtime. Crysis strikes me as a linear game with a huge area to play in. The areas are huge. But, unlike Far Cry 3, there's no going back to the previous level's location once you move on. For example, if you move on the Level 2: Recovery, there's no going back to Level 1: Contact.
I'm the same. For me, Far Cry 3 has replaced Crysis as the exploration FPS game of choice. I love exploring Rook Island. If I need some excitement, I can always visit some spots still held by Mercs and pirates. Or, I can reset an outpost and assault it anew.

[QUOTE="AznbkdX"][QUOTE="freedomfreak"] Please, the first one gives you the illusion of being open. It was redundant level design. Warhead was way more focused and better paced.smokedopedie
I can agree that the open world was an illusion as its a predetermined track through and through regardless of where you go. You could essentially free roam to any advantageous area that may make your next shootout a little more manageable though. Many of the bases in general would have been boring if there weren't high ground areas or places that can be taken even more advantage of by using powers.
If you just follow the objective path it's a illusion but if u actually go explore whole map its not lolI guess literally its not, but in reality it bars you by making you go a certain way through the campaign no matter what. Only what you do in select areas is what makes the freedom seem larger than it really is.
I guess it would be a different form of freedom ala Hitman and such.
I bought the PS3 version on PSN. It's disappointing. I like the suit (sadly it's dumbed down a bit compared to PC version) and the level design but my biggest gripe was that the AI almost always know where you are even after just 1 shot of silenced SCAR at night. WTF is that, that doesn't even look like the Crysis I played anymore. I never saw AI this bad in my 4 playthroughs...
Edit: This is from a pre release demo. Whatever this was, it's not representative of actual gameplay in Crysis. Good job finding the absolute worst possible video of the game though
The first half is excellent, if a little tech demoish territory when everything doesn't automatically gel. What it lacks in proper challenge it made up for in freedom and power fantasy stuff. The way the missions are designed to attack in different ways, and the way the game engine allows for some on the fly thinking gives the game an exciting feel that most FPS games never come close to. Some times it was a drag and unfocused, but most of the time it really worked as something special. The 2nd half absolutely sucks, because Aliens.
Warhead to me is the best game of the Crysis games. It's linear enough to give the original Crysis the focus it didn't have for some proper pacing, and open enough to allow you to keep attacking sh1t the way you wanted to. Plus the aliens were more tolerable I guess. You should play warhead.

Ah so that explains it.[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"]alien part is no second half. its just last 3 levels. Okay of the 11 missions in that game, 5 of them suck. Those 5 are officially when the aliens come into the picture and you enter that space ship(which in 2007 LOOKED ...oh who are we kidding it still looks really good). Core, Paradise Lost, Exodus, Ascension(the rancid ass vtol mission) and Reckoning(all with the lameness that was the final boss) sucks ass. Now maybe calling it the 2nd half is a hyperbole so yes you are correct my math is wrong here. But the final 5/11ths of that game suck. Not partially bad, not kind of bad, not semi bad, full on, flat out, the f*ck were they thinking status: Sucks. The first half is excellent, if a little tech demoish territory when everything doesn't automatically gel. the only thing that stands out are its visuals... Its a good game but I do believe that all the talk/interest it generated was purely based on its visuals !!
It's also from 2005 so open world/island gameplay has changed a lot since then. Overall it is ok now, but back then it was awesome.
Dude, stop trolling. I have installed and beat Crysis 1, 4 different times and NEVER encountered any problems. Funny how nobody else has, even Gamespot who gave Crysis FPS of the year in 07.Quad4Life
I'm not trolling on that.
Why do I HAVE to play on a specific mode to enjoy the game?
Why did all of a sudden my game's AI stopped responding to me?
These a legitimate questions. Is the AI not as good in the other modes? Is the game only playable in 1? Why is it like that?
The thing is, I've installed Crysis 3 different times. Not once have I seen an AI glitch. On the other hand, the AI glitch you showed, videos showing Nomad able to cloak immediately after firing a gun, and being able to board an occupied boat are all consistent with using a trainer. My nephew was used to consoles and sucked with keyboard n mouse. He gave the latter a shot but was terrible with it in Crysis. So, he installed a trainer.
This video I showed earlier. In it, I was trying to replicate being able to cloak immediately after firing. Couldn't do it. The rest of the video was to show the AI as it should be.
jun_aka_pekto
EDIT: just watched my video again to see what you're getting at and my bad I thought you were accusing me of Shooting and then going to cloak immediately after shooting which I apparently didn't do. :P
But no I'm not using any trainers. Just the game I downloaded from Origin.

The console version of Crysis 1 was made on a different engine, graphically dumbed down to oblivion, cut some content out, messed with the gameplay and i've heard some opinions from players that the AI has ben dumbed down aswell (though i don't know how true that is). You should play the original on the PC with a couple of well known graphical mods, on the hardest difficulty.

LegatoSkyheart
Because the other modes don't offer the features or challenges you're looking for.
Because the game is bugged or you bugged it.
Because that's the point of difficulty settings. Make the enemy stupid on very easy, make them challenging through actual gameplay mechanics and not bullsh!t like increased damage, health, and wallhacks.

yeah, but it's fustrating me to no end why of all places the AI gets bugged it gets bugged right at the school yard.

I have had problems with the AI bugging out on me too, in a game breaking way. At one point I had to rendez-vous with prophet at the school (or wherever it was), and when i got there i just found him not moving in the developers test rig position (legs slightly apart and arms stretched to sides), and I couldn't get any further because it just wouldn't trigge the cutscene to continue the game.Â
Â
It happened in another place too later on, but cannot remember exactly where, but meant I had to restart the game (as in whole new game) both times because reloading an earlier save didn't fix the issue

No. I'm sure some people are having problems with Crysis, especially the download version. I have the Maximum (disc) Edition and the worst glitches I've seen with regard to the AI is Prophet not showing up at all at the end of Recovery. I simply went into the cave and moved on to Relic.
Edit:
Something must be up with the Level: Recovery.

I actually reinstalled Crysis and went to that spot in Level 1: Contact. On Normal Mode (2nd easiest), I tried to make the KPA take to water like that in the video. Nope. The wouldn't. Â Â

haha Yea, those levels almost ruined the game for me. Im not a big fan of the first Crysis but it was a decent game up until you reach the alien ship. It looked pretty damn gorgeous but the gameplay in those sections just wasnt fun.The gameplay is excellent and so is level design. I love how you can play the game in the way you want, thanks to the awesome gameplay. This gives the game good replayability.
Sadly, Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 aren't like this. They are consolised that compromised the gameplay and the level design is reduced to generic corridor environment.

This is true. But going through five levels in two hours when the first half took more than triple that? That's just lousy structure right there, especially when the levels themselves are just bad. Ascension is one of the worst levels out of any shooter I've played. He's right about the alien levels being short though. You could probably get through them all in less than two hours.

It's ok. If you're playing it for the first time just now, though, you will certainly be disappointed. Far Cry 3, just for one example, did so many things better than Crysis 1 did them, and is mostly a superior execution on the same basic idea.

I found the AI and weapons in crysis better (though there is less weapon variety). Far Cry 3 was great but so easy. Far Cry 3 is an open world game, Crysis is not. There are different objectives in FC3 compared to Crysis and vice versa. Please Log In to post.
