good thing for price drops /threadtreyskillzprice drops? NEW wii games are $30 - $50. developers are hurting too because its so much more expensive and time consuming to make games for the 360 and ps3. hench the ridiculous $60 price tag on games that regular folks wont want to pay up.

price drops for the systems ... :|
Cheaper games =/= Better Games
More flamebait, huh? Well...
that's just not very nice. The 360 is doing extraordinarily. Software and hardware sales are amazing, attachment rates are through the roof...XBL subscriber numbers are rising steadily.
I think it's doing just fine. Perfect console, what a great gen, and all because of it.
Just look at the sales to see just how horrible the PS3 is selling and the xbox 360, yes even the xbox 360. The PS3, the successsor to the almighty PS2 only sold 5 million its first year?? And the xbox 360 about 11 million in 2 years? That only comes down to 6 million consoles per year. So if the xbox 360 or PS3 were to have a 4 year life span at this rate they would only have an instal base of 24 million. Heck the Gamecube sold more than that and people call it a flop. Keep inmind that the almighty Halo and Madden next gens are out.
And if you you look at the sales you will see that the PS2 is still selling at a respectable amount considering its mostly just getting multiplats now. And the Wii sold 12 million and its still in short supply. So what does this tell us?
It means that casual gamer DON'T CARE about graphics. They are content with fun games and the visuals of the PS2 and Wii are fine enough. So yeah I don't think theres a very bright future for the others considering the trends. Sony and Microsoft made their systems too powerful for their own good. Sometimes less is more, and casual gamers (90% of gamers) agree with that.

The PS3 sells will be a lot higher with the price drop. By mid of next year they should have 2nd place.
It's just obvious. And better games will come out for all 3 systems. Nothing is doomed meh.
In the end, PS3/xbox 360 will struggle to try and beat Wii. And out of the big 3 war, we gamers are going to benefit the most.

That is retarded. Gears of War, Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion, Halo 3, Forza 2, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Ghost Rehcon Advanced Warfighter, Rainbow 6 Vegas and also Assassins Creed and Mass Effect coming soon are all AAA awesomeness especially if you have XBOX live.
What does the Wii have? Zelda and Mario and some kiddy gameswith a bunch of mini games like wii sports?? besides that all else you get is last gen graphics, no DVD player, and the few multiplatforms you wii fan boys get are always worse on the Wii.
Yeah my my 360 is just letting me done. Yeah right dude the Wii is still cool Zelda Twlight Princess is cool and Super Mario Galaxy looks really cool but when it comes to the better game system and peace of hardware the Wii isnt the best not even close.
what does that show us really. It shows that the casual gamers are poor and would rather go with the cheap system over the quality system.
svp0123
im so sick of this ridiculous argument. by your logic all videogames are exactly the same.
if you really want r&c why would you buy wii sports? they are completely different!
kids dont ask their mom 'hey mom get me any console with buttons to push', they ask for something specific.
people buy what they want not just the cheapest thing they see when they walk into the electronics section, sorry buddy.
what does that show us really. It shows that the casual gamers are poor and would rather go with the cheap system over the quality system.
hardware, games whatever 360 is way better. even the ps3 is better from the multi platforms by itself.

I think we can call it a /thread already.
I don't like it when you say the Wii is al that's needed.
So imagine all of these award winning games like Bioshock, Gears of War, Mass Effect (oh yes, it will wn awards), and probably Crysis -- imagine all of these games were never made for high end systems like PS3/360 or PC but made for THE Wii. That would be an awful thing.
The industry needs robust consoles. And that is nota role the Wii is fit for. Mass Effect Wii, with waggle controls, means nothing with old AI, graphics, and non-emotional character animations. No, you should be thankful that the Wii isn't the only system out there. Otherwise many games would've suffered on a lower-end system. Crysis Wii? LOL

but when mommy and daddy see one console for half the price of the others i think he or she convinces little timmy to go with the little white box with mario and little flying cartoon heads with bubble for hands which they use to box, play baseball and bowl with.
casual gamers buy less games thats true. hardcore gamer buy high rated games thats also true. so while a few games might be million sellers on a hardcore system like the 360/ps3 like you say. The system with the most casuals(ps2/wii) will sell the most over all games in the end.what does that show us really. Desaster for consoles!!!????
come on now Halo 3 , mass effect, PGR 4, R&C, assasins creed( i prefer to play it on console!!!)and many more!!!!
think again!!!
Gears would play better with Wii controls, so would BioShock and Crysis. Mass Effect would run just fine on the Wii. You have NO idea what the Wii is capable of when it comes to AI and physics and whatnot. Do i want the Wii to be the only console out there? NO, but only ignorant gamers who can't look past a jaggie are complaining about the Wii. Wii owners need to stop pretending that graphics are the only thing the 360 and PS3 have over the Wii. Simply put, they have more processing power. This means AI and physics too. Sorry bro, but for the second time tonight I claim ownage.

Oh God, not the "AI and physics" routine again.
Do this for me: Without mentioning Crysis, tell me how AI and physics have improved gameplay this generation, using examples from last generation as well.

Dude, I totally agree with you that realistic AI and physics don't necessarily make games more fun. And I highly doubt that I will ever play Crysis. On the other hand, arguing that the Wii is cabable of AI and physics on par with the 360 and PS3 is just nonsense. All the props in the world to Wii owners though for the SMG score. Hmm, now do I want a real cookie or a porn cookie...hmm.
If the 360 is doing "phenominally" then how is the Wii doing, doubling its selling rate?
Most of all of those "AAA" titles you listed, I have on my computer, which which they have better grahpics and free online play. Get milked.
I would wanna /thread too if I didn't own a Wii and SMG just came out with SSB on the way. :D

Ok, fair enough. Bioshock on Wii would probably look like Umbrella Chronicle's graphics. Sorry, you've just removed the chilling atmosphere and soul of the game. (and you've obviously never played Bioshock, otherwise you'd never suggest such a horrid thing) And I can play a game with jaggies, even Halo 3 has them. But you think waggle controls is all you need this gen, when I say you need processing power, and right now the Wii can't do that. Maybe Wii 2 in 2010, but not now. The benefits of processing power go a lot further than the benefits of motion controls.
Just you wait for the Mass Effect reviews to start rolling in. It's being praised for having some of the most polished presentation on any console game yet. The visuals are not just eye-candy, it makes you more invested in the story of the characters. You can now detect subtle shades of emotion, no more "point and gesture loudly to express anger!" animation. If video games have struggled to gain some respect in the storytelling department, give Mass Effect credit for trying to break that trend with it's sophisticated storytelling methods. You can't get that level of emotion from Wii hardware.
The Wii can run 3,000 polygons per character. Xbox 360 can do over 20,000 per character. You think those extra polygons just mean extra grooves on the armor or shiny gun? You can use that precious resource for the facial animations. They are now using Hollywood type computers for some of these video game animations. The two fields are now blending. Notice how in Metroid Prime Corruption how blandly the cutscenes play out, or even Manhunt 2. Oh, it's a PS2 port? Well, now we know why...
Remember how amazing Gollum looked in The Two Towers? Video games will get there soon, they will reach that level, no thanks to the "I'm way behind" Wii. If you had your way, the Wii would stay where it's at, and nothing would grow or advance.

The Xbox ran Half-Life 2, which has BETTER facial animation than Mass Effect. Try again, please.
You guys do realize that if things keep going like they're going, the Wii will have won the console war by next Xmas. It's still selling at double the rate of the 360. This is a fact. I'm not making it up. You know that right?
You also know that SMG came out today and got a 9.5 from gamespot. It's exclusive. 360 nor PS3 games are usually exclusive, they come out for both consoles and PC. Gears of War is not exclusive.
You also know that if 50 percent of people don't use their Wiis, there are still more people using their Wiis than there were people using their Xboxes and this point in the 360s lifecycle? Is that clear? Do you not realize that, or are you just leaving it out?
Did you know that I still can buy a Wii online for under a 100 dollar markup? Did you know that if you can buy a Wii, you can sell it for 100 dollars more than you paid? How much will your used 360 go for?
Did you know that real hardcore gamers own a Wii, because they own all three systems, because there are great exclusive games for it. Quite a few in fact. Saying the library sucks after SMG was released is like saying cows suck after they released the steak. One game can make a system. See Halo 3.
Get with the program and buy a Wii guys. It's winning the console war. Get with a winner. You'll have to wait until they are available though.
Yeeaaahhh, you're seriously deluding yourself if you think games in the future won't be as cheesy as they are now.And "sophisticated storytelling methods"? Jeez, read a book.mjarantilla
Boy, when i saw your green name in this thread, i knew you'd return yet again with some caustic remarks. It's humorous how predictable you are. I never did say video games reach the level of the great novel. But we can all agree they have pretty much stayed in the shadow of other forms of entertainment and art. Books have their Dostoevsky, film and theater will have Brando and De Niro, but video games have very few examples of games that really send chills down the spine or actually move one to tears of deep thought. I'm just saying, why must video games accept this and restrict itself forever to B-grade character expressions and storylines? Mass Effect IS an improvement, something worth noting. Only those who have a sore spot with lemmings and the Xbox 360 seem to be resistent to this idea. So you're not really against it, you just don't like it because someone made fun of the Wii. I'm not responsible for sour grapes. The industry doesn't care either, it will continue to evolve without the need of Battalion Wars Wii and Manhunt 2.
Heavenly Sword has been praised as having the best character animations of any console game period. Go watch the videos. WETA, who did the effects for the LOTR movies, pretyt much used the same tools for the game cutscenes. This is what I'm talking about when I say video games are improving when it comes to character expressiveness. Higher level of detail means more sophisticated storytelling methods! What is so hard to believe about that?
[The Xbox ran Half-Life 2, which has BETTER facial animation than Mass Effect. Try again, please.mjarantilla
That's almost sig worthy.
According to your sig, you apparently own all 3 consoles? (unless you are just partially cheerleading for PS3 and Xbox 360 but don't own one?) Well, maybeyou need to read a book than. I read Faulkner gosh darn. I don't need to be mocked by you.
Sometimes less is more, and casual gamers (90% of gamers) agree with that.
dobbywii
VGcharts has the 360 at 12.75 or so million and the Wii at 13.35 million or so.
The 360 and Wii are basically neck and neck...and the 360 has been more expensive than the Wii since it launched.
Sure, little kids and older people are enticed by the gimmicky controller of the Wii...i won't lie. But to go without a 360 or PS3 means you'd be missing out on quality titles like Uncharted, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, Assassins Creed, Fable 2, Final Fantasy, MGS, Forza, PGR, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden 2, etc etc.
So, why again are these games not on the Wii? Well, among other things (like being published/made by either Sony or MS), it's just not powerful enough for titles like Assassins Creed, Call of Duty 4, and Devil May Cry 4.
Quite simply put, anyone with only a Wii is really missing out. I feel very bad for the little kids that gota Wii because of the gimmickycontroller only to find out later that most of the quality multiplat and exclusive titles (other than Nintendo Titles) aren't on it.
Puckho, I think your might be new here.
Did you know the 360 has been out twice as long as the Wii?
I'm asking you, please respond.

When you say the name right you'll get an explanation. Other than that, take your childish name calling ploys elsewhere.

You ever play Tales of Symphonia for Gamecube, or Resident Evil 4?
Before you were born, there were these games called Zelda and Mario, dude they were freakin' awesome too man. You missed out, but you can go back and play them on emulators.
You can get new versions of those games dude. They are only on the Wii, or you can download em, and some other games for a system we called SNES dude, it was great.
We've got Spore, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, and all kinds of cool crap from Capcom, Konami, and Square Enix coming out for the Wii. Rumor is we're getting the next Kingdom Hearts game, I know you like that....but not me...I hate that kiddy crap.
However, there are a ton of other games coming out for the Wii from Nintendo and other developers that are gonna be fantastic. The 360 usually releases its games on the PS3 and the PC. You can play them on your computer, that your on right now, for cheap, and you won't get milked. People on the internet try to take your money bro. ESPECIALLY microsoft. Never give a stranger your credic card info.
Get your mom to buy you a Wii for christmas dude, you won't regret it. It's the leader of the console wars, and the gap is growing by leaps and bounds every day.
Boy, when i saw your green name in this thread, i knew you'd return yet again with some caustic remarks. It's humorous how predictable you are. I never did say video games reach the level of the great novel. But we can all agree they have pretty much stayed in the shadow of other forms of entertainment and art. Books have their Dostoevsky, film and theater will have Brando and De Niro, but video games have very few examples of games that really send chills down the spine or actually move one to tears of deep thought.PhoebusFlows
I wouldn't even rate any game to have storytelling on par with Terry Goodkind. Well, maybe a couple. But "a couple" of gems out of a library of tens of thousands makes for a rather poor record.
I'm just saying, why must video games accept this and restrict itself forever to B-grade character expressions and storylines?PhoebusFlows
Because it's the nature of the industry. Gaming is the most commercialized of all the entertainment industries. Moreover, it's the only one of the entertainment industries whose costs triple every five years, and where a game has no chance of being picked up by a publisher unless they can prove that they can recoup those ever-increasing costs. Have you ever heard of an art form where the barrier for entry GROWS at an exponential rate?
Mass Effect IS an improvement, something worth noting.PhoebusFlows
Mass Effect is my #1 most anticipated game this holiday, but the improvement in its storytelling does not come from any of BioWare's technical achievements, not even its conversation system.
Only those who have a sore spot with lemmings and the Xbox 360 seem to be resistent to this idea.PhoebusFlows
I'm just being realistic. Literature, film, music, etc. have all developed fine works of art that are remembered for generations because of the freedom their artists have. The one thing that video games lack IS freedom. Can you think of a medium more restricting?
Heavenly Sword has been praised as having the best character animations of any console game period. Go watch the videos. WETA, who did the effects for the LOTR movies, pretyt much used the same tools for the game cutscenes. This is what I'm talking about when I say video games are improving when it comes to character expressiveness. Higher level of detail means more sophisticated storytelling methods! What is so hard to believe about that?PhoebusFlows
It's rather easy to look realistic when direct motion capture is used. IIRC, Half-Life 2's facial animations were all keyframe animated, as were Mass Effect's.
That's almost sig worthy. :lol:PhoebusFlows
I was impressed with the subtlety of Mass Effect's facial animations, but it's TOO subtle. Mass Effect's animation engine doesn't reproduce the high range of emotion very well at all. Their mouths always look like they're muttering, even when they're shouting, and no matter how angry the characters become, it only ever shows as a slight crinkle in their brow. And when it does attempt to show the higher range of emotions, the believability breaks down.
Half-Life 2 shows a far more complete range of facial animation, despite being three years older.
According to your sig, you apparently own all 3 consoles? (unless you are just partially cheerleading for PS3 and Xbox 360 but don't own one?) Well, maybeyou need to read a book than. I read Faulkner gosh darn. I don't need to be mocked by you.PhoebusFlows
Good for you. And I own a PC, PS2, Wii, and 360. I have not been convinced yet to buy a PS3. I had hoped Heavenly Sword would do it, but then it turned out to be one of the shortest games this generation. R&C went a long way towards convincing me to get one. Now I'm just waiting for a decent JRPG.
The Wii is my favored console because if gaming is to become a respected medium for art, it must first embrace those qualities unique to gaming rather than rely on techniques borrowed from other media.

Hey, more childish name calling from you...big surprise.
I'm 23 and I am in the military living on my own"dude".
You're so uninformed it's ridiculous. Yes, i have both RE4 and Tales of Symphonia on the GC...thanks.I have been playing Videogames since the Atari...thanks again. Played all the Zeldas, Pong, etc etc. of those times.
You've proven that you're a hypocrite, thanks there also. You say "The 360 usually releases its games on the PS3 and the PC" and then turn around and mention Spore for the Wii...despite the fact that it's also available on the PC. Thanks again...you walked right into that one.
Never liked Kingdom hearts...sorry chief. Played it and got bored of it very quickly. Would you like me to list the 360 games that are releasing only on the 360? Hell, i'll include all the ones from the past that were quality titles that are exclusive as well. Dead Rising, Perfect Dark Zero, Dead or Alive 4, Halo Wars, Too Human, Halo 3, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, PGR4, Forza 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Infinite Undiscovery, Ace Combat 6, Eternal Sonata (yes, it's essentially exclusive, only in Japan is there a PS3 version being released), Huxley (ooo, another on the PC...you did it, tough sh*t), etc. How about the ones that the Wii doesn't get? ok, Assassins Creed, Call of Duty 4, Kane and Lynch, Army of Two, blah blah blah etc. I can go on in both cases.
As for "giving my card # to MS"...they only get the last 4 digits genius. If you knew what you were talking about, you'd know this. Every online type of purchasing does this...the banks do the transaction for you and the companies only get the last 4 digits of the card. It appears you lost that one as well.
Leader of the Console Wars? Growing by leaps and bounds? Yep, despite the fact that the 360 outsold it last month and has been near it ever since it launched. What do you want? It's a much cheaper console that appeals to a younger audience and has some adults wanting it (A workout game...seriously). Of course it's going to sell. But, according to you, somehow the fact that the Wii sold 13 million or so and the 360 is at around 12.5 million or so, makes the 360 sales completely useless? Ah, fanboy logic. And with the great titles being released on the 360 later this year and early next year, anything is possible with sales. Do i care? Nope, only people with no games to play brag about sales. This is also considering that the Wii still can't run games like Assassins Creed or Call of Duty 4 at the level of the 360 and PS3. As for the online...I'm in the Military and i get a steady paycheck. $50/1 year of play isn't much for what XBL offers. I have money, thanks.
Oh, and about christmas...I live alone and there is no christmas when i'm deployed.
Btw, don't bother responding...you're done, bro. :)
The next time you feel like talking down to someone think again and this won't happen. As for the Tween comment...well, only a child would probably know what that is. I have no idea so your little word has fallen on deaf ears.

No problem. I usually give the Wii a hard time here and usually feel bad after I do it. After the SMG 9.5, and with Zelda: Twilight Princess, man, it's really got me thinking about getting a Wii. The only problem is that there's so many games that I want coming out this year for the 360 and I usually feel kind of bad if I only play a game once and then let it get dusty on the shelf. Where does one find the time? Anyway, I'm also sorry if I offended.

Offensive? Please, only a child would be disturbed by the little remarks you wrote.
Good, I thought I hurt your feelings little dude. I'm sorry.
Anyway, yeah, your right, I brought up Spore. I was wrong, it's not exclusive, your right.
I do think you are telling a couple of lies, either to yourself or to me...
...not really lies though. More like omissions.
I mean, your arguments really can't just be set aside, they are important.
However when you argue about sales figures, there I can't stand silent. You have to understand(and I know you do) that the Wii has sold at double the rate of the 360 so far, and is still selling a lot faster than the 360 according to any of the crappy tracking sites that youa re quoting. You know as well as I do that the fact that the 360 "outsold" the Wii by a couple thousand units when Halo 3 was launched isn't gonna last, and didn't last.
Yes, you even know that the reason the Wii didn't outsell it then is because it sold its full supply, and couldn't possibly sell any more. You even know that the reason the Wii isn't lightyears ahead of the 360(it's still pretty far ahead) is because it can't meet demand.
Now I've named quite a few games off the list for you. If what you say is true, and you don't own a Wii, when you can't possibly know how awesome the games are, that you are missing out on. You played Atari? You played SNES? Did you ever play LTTP, or SMB 3? Do you think those games are for kids, I mean really? Are they bad games? Are those games bad? Is LTTP a bad game?
Well the new first party games are AWESOME for the Wii. SMG is possibly the best Mario game ever. Imagine if you missed out on LTTP? You coulnd't even have this conversation with me right now, because you would be so lost, you wouln't know what I'm talking about. If, in the future, you have never played SMG, you will be in the same boat.
I have a 360. I will be able to knowledgable discuss the gaming industry of the future, by knowing its past.
Back to your original statement, you asked what you were missing when you didn't buy a Wii? Tons of awesome and exclusive first and third party games, that you may or may not love. There are also quite a selection of AAA and AA exclusive titles for the console, that you haven't played. Why haven't you played them?
I'm mean, I'm a Nintendo fanboy. I admit. However, I own a 360, and love it. Why don't you own a Wii? You played GCN, you played RE4, forget the "exclusivity" crap, if you owned a Gamecube, you know there were some great games for that system, and at least a few, you would be a poorer gamer for not owning.
So, please, I'm begging you bro, stop the Wii and Nintendo hate. You know as well as the rest of us that Nintendo makes some pretty meaningful games, and the Wii is a real system that a hell of a lot of people own and love. They are all not kids, and they are all not dumb suckers. I am one of them. I'm quite intelligent for a human, though I might have an issue or two deep down. You offend me with your harsh words and make me angry, when you and I both know they are not true. Sorry for taking up your time.
