I'll be different and say Tales of Eternia.siLVURcross*high-five* Altough I'll add Tales of the Abyss to that as well.
Oblivion has it's flaws, but it's still one of my favorite games of all time, so it gets my vote.
Also, Diablo > Diablo 2. :)
Morrowind?
I think I'm more comfortable calling Tales of Symphonia an action RPG, though, so I say that.
[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"]Are we talking of all time? Hm. Morrowind takes the cake for "Played So Much, it Should be the One You Pick", but then again... hm... Can I consider Planescape Torment an action RPG? Because then I have to pick that, or be punished for my heresy.Guppy507Neither Morrowind or Planescape Torment are action RPGs. What? Action RPG is EXACTLY what Morrowind is :? Planescape I only brought up because one could possible see it as an action RPG, from a certain point of view.

So is Morrowind an action-adventure? Or a straight WRPG? Because I know it's not the latter. Just a straight WRPG. The primary focus of action RPGs is... well... action. Morrowind's primary focus is exploration. In fact, I hesitate to call Fallout 3 and Oblivion action RPGs too, though their combat more resembles action RPGs.

I just think of an action-RPG as any RPG with actiony combat. That's why I initially thought of Morrowind, but your explanation makes some sense.
Or does it? :o

Thats the litteral deffinition. But I think in reality most people here consider an action RPG to be an RPG thats about combat and character upgrades over story and diologue.
Which is why the classic deffinition of an Action RPG is Diablo, which is all about upgrading your character, and has no diologue or choices in it (though the story itself is pretty good)

I edited the first part out, because I realized Diablo 2 had combat heavily based on dice rolls, but it's totally an action RPG. :P The 2nd point stands strong though. 8)Oh god, the Witcher had some of the worst combat I've ever experienced. >.>This gen I would have to go with the Witcher.

I call that a dungeon-crawler.[QUOTE="jasonharris48"]Oh god, the Witcher had some of the worst combat I've ever experienced. >.> Well to be fair I didn't play to many Action RPGs this gen besides that one, FallOut 3, Mass Effect 1,2, Demon Souls (which I didn't give a chance to say anything about the gameplay)This gen I would have to go with the Witcher.

I just couldn't stand it. It was more simple than Fable's combat, and that's not a good sign. :P I want to give the game another chance though (I only got a couple hours into it). Maybe I won't hate it as much the 2nd time.[QUOTE="munkeypoo45"][QUOTE="HAZE-Unit"]
Kingdom Hearts.

yes!!!!!
Mhmm. YES! Nothing else comes close to this.Lol, you list Diablo 2 which isn't even out yet. I still think it'll be a dope game of course!
The first game that comes to mind is Demon's Souls :D. I played well over 100 hours until my 40GB PS3 died :(. Then I let my cousin borrow it--chump still has it!
EDIT: :| I'm a fool, I got Diablo 2 mixed up with 3 lol.
Tales of Symphonia is classic :D. "I am, Rodyle!" and "Colette!" are memorable quotes for me... love that game. I never beat it though, it's long as hell too.Tales of Symphonia. That game was pure magic. Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Vesperia were stellar as well. Tales of Eternia is also quite good, but I have yet to finish it.
Basically the Tales of series :P
