Best action RPG/series?

Diablo 2 LoD is the best aRPG ever, easily. All others are immitations. Demon's Souls is by far the best game on the poll list though. Dark Souls for GotY...

There have been plenty of RPGs before Demons Souls where Archer was not a cIass and rather just a weapon choice. Examples include

Mount and Blade
Any game based on Dungeons and Dragons (Rangers are there, but they dont necessarily have to be archers, dual wielding works just as fine and most cIasses can use bows).
Arcanum
Eschalon

Action RPGs just happen to be my favorite genre, it is really hard to pick just one of them.

There have been many great ARPGs: The first four games in the Mana (series) , E.V.O.: Search for Eden, Diablo II, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (the metroidvania series), Dark Cloud 1/2, Ragnarok Online, Star Ocean (series), Tales of (series), X-men legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, Ys (series), etc.

They all are quite different from one another, so saying one is better than another is a bit tricky because they look, feel, and play with such diversity within the genre.

If I had to pick only one... I guess Diablo II, because it brought so much to the genre, and stood the test of time as it is still fun to play today.

Mass Effect for now until Xenoblades gets released over here.
