Gamestop.com actually has some really nice deals going on right now and had some in the past. I'll give the online portion of the company some credit for making an effort to give us some deals.

yokofox33

Yeah, but recently they never have (used) games I want in stock :(. I like supporting devs with new game purchases, but any penny saved is good lol.

Well, with Steam, games are attached to your account, so you don't have to worry about losing your disks. And, if you have a guest pass, you can give that to your friend, or you can just buy the game and gift it to them if your that nice.

What if you lose your account, hmm?

[QUOTE="RogueShodown"][QUOTE="Couth_"]Gamestop has way better deals than Best Buy. Also Ubisoft dropped the price of the Collectors Edition because the USB drives they shipped are faulty.. They did that instead of replacing them. LawlsCouth_
Show me 3 good deals that Gamestop had this whole year, then I'll agree. As for the Collector's Edition; $60 is still the same price as a new MSRP game, and you're getting extra stuff with it besides the USB drive, so it's a good deal for people who buy games on launch.

Hey theres 3 good deals on the front page :o Just because they rip you off when you trade in your games, doesn't mean they don't ever sell stuff for cheap. The fact that they sell used at in the first place, those prices always beat Best Buy's. Best buy is freaking terrible to shop at. Amazon is the best by far, but Best Buy is one of the worst. Also, as far as 'ripping' people off for trade ins. Their trade in values are damn near identical to Amazon's. And one of their recent deals was an extra 50% on all trade ins, which is an excellent deal.

Damn, my initial reply got glitched or something, so I'll have to do it again... Anyways, I wasn't just commenting about the trade-in values. Even if Amazon and Gamestops trade-in values are equal, it would probably go farther if you use it on Amazon. They already give $10-$20 video gaming credit for practically all good games if you pre-order them. You also didn't show me 3 good deals. Those 'deals' on the front page are horrible, with the exception of a free Wii sports Resort game with the purchase of a Wii. The other deals will only save you a few bucks in the end. 10% off and free 3-day shipping with an order over $65. How is that a deal? You'd have to buy at least 2 games, and that 10% is barely enough to change anyone's mind from getting them in an actual store 3 days earlier... The Game Days sale was a joke. It was really just an advertised clearance. There were only a few good deals, but I think those games should have been at those prices a long time ago. One of those games being COD4; I picked it up for $20, and I thought it was worth it because a lot of people still play and it is enjoyable, but it should be $20 because it's been 2 years since it's release. The only things I don't like about BestBuy are the warranties and the Geek Squad installation services. Those are huge rip-offs and it's obvious to anyone with at least half of a brain. I still think BestBuy, or any other large retail chain, usually has better deals than Gamestop.

Yes! I went to one a few weeks ago and the prices were insane.

I got Portal for $10 there. :P

Sadly I live like two hours away from it so I only got to go there once. :(

You asked for 3 good deals for the entire year.. And I showed you, theres at least 2 there right now alone. They have had great deals throughout the year. Think what you want about Best Buy but you are probably throwing your money away if you shop there. They are the most overpriced retail chain, hands down. The money has to go somewhere. I love going to Best Buy because they are always very clean and well kept. They have awesome displays, tons of employees. That's where the extra costs go. That's why they are overpriced, and that's why, while I love giong there, I never buy anything. Maintaining their locations costs. Amazon and Newegg are cheap because they don't have physical locations. Less employees. Less overhead etc. Gamestop is somewhere in between.

I even stated why those weren't good deals. Only the Wii deal was good, and that's because stores rarely ever bundle anything with a Wii. You had a good point about Gamestop having more employees, but I'm sure Gamestop still makes more money than Amazon when it comes to games, and that's after factoring in the employee expenses... They advertise more, and the fact that there are real stores to go to makes it a convenience. Some people may go to Gamestop just because they don't want to wait the time it takes to have a game shipped to them. BTW, I was only comparing the prices of games between BestBuy and Gamestop, not anything else. I do agree that you can find better deals on electronics in other stores, but I don't go to BestBuy that much, so I wouldn't really know about that.

Gamestop is a paradise for anyone who trades in and buys used games. If you know how to use and stack discounts for trade ins, Gamestop works in your favor. Personally I don't buy used games, but if you work the system right then you can get a newly released game for dirt cheap. Plus that and all the discount glitches you can exploit on their site. :D

How would you do that? If you forget your password, you click on "forgot password?" and they will send it to you in an email. Just like pretty much every website/service that requires a login.

I know there are people who buy games that are on clearance/sale and then trade them in to Gamestop, but that's just being cheap. You hardly get anything most of the time, and there are people who would've actually played the games. Using glitches in order to get a good deal is out of the question for me. I think that's low for anyone to do.

Gamestop's 'deals' have always been bad. There's only a few actual deals out of the 100s they advertise. Despite selling video games primarily, major retailers still offer way better deals than them most of the time. They only reason Gamestop makes so much money is because they take advantage of all of the people who don't know any better. There's no reason to trade in a game that you could sell for twice the price on the spot.

You would have to be extremely careless to lose your discs. From what I've seen, Steam's sales aren't very good, either. During their Black Friday deals, the best deals were usually on the cheapest games. This isn't a bad thing for someone like me, but people looking for good deals on newer releases could probably find these games for the same price on something like Amazon, and they'd actually get a physical copy.

Then you need to see more. Steam's deals are awesome.

Yeah, and at a minimum of 2 a week with (usually) 50% off it's quite nice. I got Batman Arkham Asylum + Just Cause for $20 most recently. Although I now have 200 games >:( Good deals can be too much sometimes

yeah.. steam.. so you don't have any real control over your game, sounds like a great idea! I can buy a game, play it, sell it on ebay, i've basically paid nothing, made a profit, or paid a couple bucks.. or I could use steam. No one has "the best deals" you just gotta keep your eyes open, sometimes target has a brand new game (deadspace) for 40 dollars, or dell.com (battlefield BC2, splinter cell C) for 40 dollars. Sometimes amazon has the best deal, you can find them everywhere. Sometimes just watching ebay for a couple days gets you a game at the best possible price. Hell, I found a great deal on some game at Kmart one time.. and I didn't even know they where still in business! lol

I think overall Toys R Us and Amazon have stepped it up the most, especially since Circuit City went under. They constantly offer $20 gift cards/game credit on new releases. BestBuy isn't bad, but I think they could stick the stake in GameStop's heart if they really tried. It seems like overall their game deals have sorta plateaued. The bonus reward points they offer aren't bad, a few of em net you a $10 gift card after one purchase. GameStop is by far the ****iest of the brick and mortar stores. I can't wait to see how the new local Play N Trade works out.

yeah.. steam.. so you don't have any real control over your game, sounds like a great idea! Hell, I found a great deal on some game at Kmart one time.. and I didn't even know they where still in business! lolfastr
You have COMPLETE control over your Steam games, you can even burn them on a disk. And NOBODY had a better holiday sale than them.

Ok, I haven't used steam, because to me PC gaming sucks, but can you then go give that cd to your friend, and let him borrow your game? I believe he would have to use your steam account, correct?

As heretrix said so eloquently, my friends buy their own damn games. :D But yeah, in your example they'd have to use your account. There wouldn't be any need for the discs though, just login and download.

I wouldn't know, my friends buy their own games. Weird, that's the second time I said that tonight.

Anyway, as far as digital distribution goes, Steam has the most flexible DRM out there. it isn't perfect, but it beats the crap out of anything else outside of owning the disk yourself.

Edit: lol Makari beat me to it.

That's an ok deal. I know a site where they have deal where you can buy 2 and get 3rd game free. Also, if you spend over $50 they give you $6 off. Price would be $5-20 for games like Halo 3, RE5, GeoW2 and GTAIV but around $40-50 for brand new releases.

Not at Gamestop buddy.millerlight89
I should of mention someone already traded it to Gamestop.

Gamestop's new "used" games are around 54.99 unless they are OLD.

30% off used games if you have a 20% Coupon and a Edge card worth 10% off. That game will become about $35- $39

Yeah. Frankly, having to patch CoH + Opposing Fronts from scratch after a reinstall for the second time is enough to make anyone into a Steam convert forever.

[QUOTE="The-Mosher"][QUOTE="millerlight89"]Best buy is better than Gamestop. Though Target is now my favorite. Here in the states it was the only place around me to get STALKER CoP :P.millerlight89
And Napoleon: Total War. ;)

Quite sad when Target has certain games that the freaking Game/Electronic outlets do not. I did not know the was the case for Napoleon : TW too!

I agree. I went to my local target and I was surprised at how extensive their PC game section actually is.

What's great is they also sell old games alongside the new stuff in a somewhat large $5-$10 game section. I saw games like Civilization III, andI believe it was Age of Empires III (Not II) in that section.

Yes, you can redownload the game. No, it will not be the game that shipped. They automatically patch the game and don't give you access to the original files. Meaning if a mod comes out that you want to play, but it's only for version 1.1, and the patch is currently 1.4, you can't play it because Steam only gives you 1.4.KristoffBrujah

Sounds like you're grasping at straws. I've never had this problem, nor have I ever heard of others having it.

Have you? If so, which game+mod was it?

Yes, but you don't have to necessarily give your information out. The info can be saved on his machine temporarily without actually telling him your info.

You can also legally both play a game at the same time on different machines (even if only one of you owns it) through the use of offline mode (friend can play a game in offline mode with your account, while you play on your account normally.) There's also guest passes. Both are a big step up from traditional console game lending, I'd say.

Yeah, let me just walk into steam to get my DISK. So that I can let my friends borrow the game and bring it to their house to let them play it...

*shrugs*

i've actually gifted my friends games just because i saved money during discounts on steam, i mean how else would you be able to enjoy an online game with a friend if there was only 1 copy between the two of you?

I like Steam but I always will prefer having the cover and manual there. Unless steam is signifactnly cheaper

Possibly Vampire: Bloodlines? I vaguely remember there being a lot of shenanigans with game versions and mods and patches and whatnot.

nah the best gaming deals this gen for me so far are:

1)best buys 2007 black friday The orange box for pc $25 got so many hours out of enjoyment out of this don't think i will ever play a game as much as i have tf2.

2)bad company 2 pc for $20 at ea store don't care much for the sp but the online mp is some of the best this gen and should keep me entertained for a long time.

and it terms of sheer quantity of great deals steam is king the holiday sale was just insane. Altough when theres no deals i prefer to buy from amazon.com prices are generally lower.

Ah, that's one game I don't own the Steam version of. I do recall patching to the latest version before installing mods, though (think I used Pen & Paper + Clans) and also installing a community patch or something. Hmm.

You sound like an advertiser and secondly GameStop has always been over priced on their games, they only com close by match the identical price, occasionally you will see it'll be lower than the competition.
