[QUOTE="everquestlove"]How is 4 Controller Ports not revolutionary?SicklySunStorm
Because multitaps on both the Sega Megadrive/Genesisand SNESwere around before N64, as well as the famous J-carts from Codemasters for games like Micro Machines.
4 ports as a standard on the console itself was convenient, but hardly revolutionary.
My favourite console of all time was my Megadrive, easily...
How many 4 player megadrive games were available, and how many kids bought the multitap. 4 Ports built into the console WAS revolutionaryThe expansion thing was a total dick move on nintendos part. I was too young at the time to care but looking back 10 years later it really was milkage to the extreme. Hey everyone to play half of the lineup you require a 30$ memory upgrade that we should have put in in the first place!
The games really were great, the controller was just so so though, I'd rather have the gamecube or 360 controller in my opinion.

Truth is, it was simply awesome and its standarization meant that four player split screen gaming was standard. Sure other consoles may have had multitaps (this news that SNES and Genesis had them too is news to me... seriously... who the hell can remember a four player game on either of those consoles) but N64 simply owned that gen's multiplayer because of the standard 4 ports.

no, because you could still play games without the ram pack..
it made the graphics better, they should release a 512 mb memory add on for 360 so dev's can have option to have better graphics for those users who buy the 512 mb.
like a high and low settings lol.
duke nukem zerohour supported the memory/ram expansion you could play it without the pack, but if you had it the graphics were alot better.
same goes for turok 2 it wasnt required to play the game.

nah, they would just eliminate a lot of console users i think, if i wanna upgrade my system, i'd get a pc, if you make a console, you should make it good, not worse then add ram later....its lame.[QUOTE="videogameblow"][QUOTE="Vaasman"]

duke nukem zerohour on n64 could run without expansion pack or with it...when you use it graphics were better.
that was great idea, if people wanted better graphics than out of box console specs can do then get pack to run higher graphical settings.
they should release 512 mb expansion for ps3/360 so let's say call of duty 4 can run at max settings and look like the pc
because right now it's running probley medium settings.

No, if people want better graphics they play the game on pc, simple. I thought the reason people buy consoles is cos of the lack of hassle you get with pc. I buy a console so i can put in the disk and just play. i dont wanna mess about with mid/high/low settings or whatever, thats what i do on pc. that's what I'm sayingThere were plenty ofamazing 4 player games on both SNES and Megadrive;
Micro Machines 2, Pete Sampras tennis, General Chaos, Gauntlet, NHL hockey, Bomberman, Street Racer (SNES version).... to say "who the hell can remember a 4 player game on either of those consoles" is just daft. LOTS of us can remember these excellent games - just tough luck if you're too young to remember.
If anything, the N64s revolutionary feature was it's analogue stick, not 4 player action. It was a great console, but paled in comparison to it's forebear, the SNES.

n64 was alot more fun than ps3/360
alot more off the wall games.
the playstation series was my first entry into faulty consoles, which made me hate sony more than anything. there line up was good, but there systems were garbage. n64 created the more fun, when it came to playing with a bunch of people on a saturday or sunday. i dont think no console could have ever compete with a n64 at its time when it came to multiplayer.Best console ever is the PS3, yo.

Always new you were a cow. :P
Best system was the Phillip CD-i.

ok, its okay if you can fork out more money for it, but most people dont want to pay more money just to make the graphics betterN64 certainly has a claim to the best console ever title, many of the games blew me away in a way no games since have been able to, maybe it was the very well executed transition to 3D but it was simply revelutionary. I still remember all-nighters playing Goldeneye with friends, or the magical Super Mario 64, the epic OoT... If the SNES didnt exist before that, N64 would probably be my favourite as the best console but the SNES was simply mind-blowing (for me).

Game's that were really impressive when n64 launched was waverace or starwars.
i agree though i havent been impressed by any games since n64 basically, i guess it maybe was move from 2d to 3d, but waverace was just so beautiful nice water animations/waves kicked ass you could see fish swimming and coral reef dolphin all kinds of crap was just really impressive for back then.

[QUOTE="IronBass"]It's not even the best Nintendo console (Snes and GameCube say hallo).thegoldenpooUrg the game cube was a horrific console, much like the Wii is today. I feel sorry for anyone who ever just owned a GC.
This is why system wars is funny... The gamecube was a great console: Eternal Darkness, RE4, Metroid Prime 1+2, LoZ:WW, Killer 7, Animal Crossing, Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario 2, Baiten Kaitos, Super Smash Bros Melee, Viewtiful Joe 1+2, Mario Kart:Double Dash, F-Zero GX, Pkimin 1+2, Fire Emblem:Path of Radiance, Mario Power Tennis, Super Monkey Ball 1+2, Star Wars Rogue Leader, Ikaruga.
every single one of those is a great exclusive (VJ and RE4 were then ported to the PS2)
Do you even want me to go into the multiplats too (lol there werent too many great ones but there are at least 10)
The controller was the worst controller known to man, the graphics were far behind even the inferior PlayStation, and the system only had a few games.
It wasn't even the best fifth generation console let alone the best of all-time.

- AAAAAAAA Games Other systems have had the quality of games that the N64 did- Perfect Controller Good controller but sometimes felt awkward in my hands
- Never Broke Does have some trouble reading my cartidges
- Fast Load Times Can't aruge that point
- Graphics were top notch On some games, others no so much, and less compared to some PS1 games
, no need to go further - 4 Controller Ports Wireless controllers make this obsolete
Get N or GET OUT, CHANGE THE SYSTEMeverquestlove

* Great 1st party games. Poor 3rd party supprt.
* Are you serious? The analog stick while being an innovation, having it in the middle, with the 3 hand grip design, was just awkward. But to be fair, improvements of newly implemented technologies and designs usually happens after their introductions.
* You got reliability and 4 controller ports
* Fast load times because of cartridges, which were very limiting and EXPENSIVE. I can remember the average game costing $80 here in Canada, and some even as much as $100. And that was 10 or 12 years ago.
* Yep, graphics were geat for the day.
Urg the game cube was a horrific console.thegoldenpooNo, not really.
I feel sorry for anyone who ever just owned a GC. thegoldenpooNo need to. I had a lot of fun with it.
I can agree with that.
The N64 will always hold a special place in my heart. Such great times were had with it.

What the hell else would I be describing in a topic like this?
"Perfect controller, never broke"?
Sorry, bud, but my friend has had all three of his N64 controllers broken for a few years now, and one of mine's control sticks is messed up...XD But the controllers WERE nice while they lasted, and the games were good, like you said. But I don't know about best console ever...=/ Close contender, but I'm in love with my 360, and the PSX was just as great.
