[QUOTE="fjburgos"][QUOTE="killab2oo5"]Gears of War and Condemned have been the most impressive for me so far.waynehead895Gear of War for mee has one of the most dumbest AI. Heavenly Sword too. But Uncharted has great AI those guys sometimes are dificutl to hit. If you playit in hardest mode is almost imposible. I love Gears but the AI is nothing to write home about. It's ok on Insane mode.Maybe I'm wrong...after all I haven't played the campaign in months. Guess my choice is Condemned and Fear.
[QUOTE="locopatho"]Half Life games. Even the first one is better than most games today scarily enoughKez1984
Yea, your absolutely right. Also it was amazing seeing the A.I battle each other. Particularly the Marines.
Well if you include Half Life 2 that's just wrong. Half Life 1 yes yes. Infact i think Half Life 1's AI is better than Half Life 2.
Remember when Valve showed us the Combines AI way back and it look'd friggen amazing as they were breaking in doors shooting through windows and stuff? what ever happened to that?

They do that, though the door breaking is scripted stuff. The Combine Overwatch a.i isnt impressive, especially compared to games like Far Cry at the time, though they just seemed to be like 'minions' out of bond films that die in droves. A design choice if anything. The synths on the other hand had great a.i., and Alyx's partner A.i in Ep1 and 2 is the best partner A.i in a shooter, no question.
Wolf 3D had the best enemy AI >_>Jandurin
[QUOTE="Jandurin"]Wolf 3D had the best enemy AI >_>foxhound_fox
I liked Doom's monster Infighting stuff, i wish that was in games more often.
for single player, crysis or halo 3 had the best that I know of
for multiplayer, challenge promode mod for q3 arena
I heard stories and personal experiences that people mistake Unreal bots for real people. Thats an achivement.
F.E.A.R easily.
Although the classic "run into their face with a shotgun" technique is still effective, until you face those armoured foes.
No one mentioned the Total War games? A.I. in those is pretty good.tenaka2
Eh, you can get many "heroic victories" easy by using the phalanx formation effectively (in Rome), as the A.I don't exploit the phalanxes weaknesses effectively, that's if the opponent dosen't have horse archers.
The diplomatic A.I is strange too, but battles are often challenging in Rome and Medieval. The way soldiers react to their general being killed, or the presence of horses and elephants is impressive, it's so cohesive, that horses are even slightly scared of camels, and infantry fell a little better (or smug) if they're on a hill. It's just the A.I's inability to adapt that's slightly underwhelming, but it's probably more technically impressive than F.E.A.R.
[QUOTE="ps3wizard45"]cod4 ai was really impressive Juggernaut140
No dude, the AI was terrible.
I didin't find them dumb, they did okay.
Crysis a.i is fantastic.I heard Crysis had bad AI :?
F.E.A.R. and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. have the best AI

Especially on delta mode.
Its not that it is increadably smart, its how life like it is, its unbeleiveable. The a.i actually screws up, not a bug, but emulating real human behaviour (The Koreans in Nanosuits to a less extent (more like FEARs clone soldiers -super smart)).
That and its very complex as its dealing with a dynamic enviroment.

I love the Total War series, but the A.I. sucks.
I haven't played it but I've heard that Stalker lost points on gametrailers.com because the a.i. was to hard and smart.

The enemies in Halo 3 were smart. They constantly took cover, ran away or jumped at you. Your allies on the other hand...
I would have to say half life~paul999
I don't agree. Most of the time they just stand in the same spot and shoot at you. They never go for cover or anything.

I kind of disagree. The A.i could be intelligent, the brutes made smart decisions sometimes, however it was like a HL2 to HL1 flashback.
Overall the a.i was nothing special, even though it would sometimes surprise you (suicide grunts for example).
Problem with Halo 3s a.i is at long distances it was practically useless, they would just stand around strafe in the open, not even advancing on you. Brutes didnt know how to use deploy-ables at all, and always seemed to wander into your cross-hairs or lunge at you at the wrong times. Grunts were, as usual, dumb (the suicide thing is awesome), Jackals are the same usual jackals as in Halo Ce, and Hunters were still dumb as ever - circle strafing still works perfectly.
The a.i piloting vehicles was simply horrendous across the board, and yes friendly a.i is seriously some of the worst in any shooter. The Arbiter is notably one of the worst excuses for a companion a.i. No wonder he has constant re-spawns (not to mention his character was ruined by this game design decision).
Of course A.i doesent make or break a game.

Oh, my bad then :P
In many games, as you get into higher and harder difficulties, the enemies gain more hitpoints and higher damage to there weapons and armor, rare is the game that actually has an A.I system that becomes smarter as the difficulty increases.
Halo 3 is a shining exable of adaptive A.I, as you play through the game on a lower difficulty, the gunts flee at the sight of you, jackel expose there weakpoints more often etc.
however, if you play the game on a higher difficulty, the grunts will, instead of flee, light up two grenades and charge you on a suicide run, leap away from oncoming warthogs and the like.
brutes display a ''pack metality'' on higher difficulties, where a cheiftain would bark ''throw a grenade'' then suddenly 5 spike grendes are hurling towards you, these commanding officers can order retreats, flanks, advances all in realtime. a brute captain may command a grunt to ''flush out'' a hidden enemy, or a brute will request a ''packmate'' to cover him as he rushes you. these guys will also change thier attack pattern and go ''berserk'' if you take out to many members of their squad.
Ive seen the drones change as the game gets harder as well, on say...legendary, in addtion to darting around in the air, they coordinate there fire and focus on a single target , rather then spread their damage as they would if you were playing it on normal.
the game even has a system of ''skulls'' that you can turn on and off to change the way an enemy fights you, eg. a skull you have acess to makes your foes throw more genades then they otherwise would.
in short the games enemies get smarter as well as tougher as you play the game on higher difficulties....though your marine and elite ''allies'' are absolutely retarded...:P
No one mentioned the Total War games? A.I. in those is pretty good.tenaka2Not really. They only occassionally adapt to your actions and usually just charge across the field at you. They are extremely easy to outflank as well.
FEAR had some impressive enemy AI
I remember that was one of the reasons I got the game on the 360, but I recall the AI beeing not as good as on the PC
Drake's Fortune has great A.I.Rekunta
i was gonna say drake too. on harder difficulties the enemies not only have more ammo and grenades but the actually work better together and try to drive you out of cover. they will dive away from your grenades more effectively and rush you when you are reloading.
