After seeing most of the videos and trailers of Heavy Rain, I've come to the conclusion that Heavy Rain has the most realistic facial animations compared to any other video game out there. I mean the close up details of the character's faces, their eyes moving and blinking, its like the real thing. You have to admit, no other video game has better facial animations.

maybe for consoles... as far as videogames go, Crysis has top notch facial animations, that doesn't mean that HR isn't impressive in that front though

I finished the Heavy Rain demo. In Crysis, the characters have better facial animation when they talk and express emotions, their face is also far more detailed. Sorry, but 2007 strikes again. Crysis can never be bettered in any technical aspect by a current generation console game.

While I have no interest in picking this game up right away, I will say that the facial animations are indeed fantastic. The emotion of the characters is expressed brilliantly. Some of the voice acting leaves a bit to be desired, though.

Ehh, Crysis has better facial structure, detail and highlights but the facial expressions are top notch in Heavy Rain and they have long flowing hair :P

EDIT: My judgment is not off the Demo but from other videos that can be seen on GameTrailers.

I dont know about that, i kind of feel like they arent as good as uncharted 2s. I'm still trying to decide if i think the game has better visuals then U2 its very hard to compare them :?

No, Not Heavy Rain. Too glass eyed. Too stiff. I would give it to Mass Effect 2. The Facial Animations and eye movementare fantastic.

I cannot concur, because it would be doing Quantic Dream a disservice, considering all retail versions will be available in 10 different languages, all with appropriate lip-syncs.

The amount of effort they have put into the animations, as well as adding to mind that you will be able to play it in several different dialects, shows that it is unrivaled. And beyond that, you would not know of Crysis' facial animations unless you were looking at the cut scenes. Considering there are no non in-game cut scenes in Heavy Rain, the comparison cannot be done. When referring to Mass Effect 2, you must take into mind that the lip-sync as well as expressions are all pre-determined. If you perhaps did not notice, head-tracking awareness, as well as on the fly lip-sync are all present in Heavy Rain. As while conversing, even if you're walking around, your character's facial structure will change based on what they are doing and the situation. Seriously folks, do some research before throwing bias into the mix.

Not true. The Facial animation has no real flaws outside the uncanny valley. The characters look at you, react to you with eye movement and body language like a normal person. I'm on my second run and I still have not found one flaw. Please point one out for me.

Heavy Rain has great facial animations, it's just a shame a lot of it's characters have very weakly detailed faces.

Only their eyes and jaws move leaving the rest of the face stiff as board.

You need to read. If your opinion does not differ, then you are not looking at in on a technical level, nor taking into mind that both Crysis, Half Life 2, Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect 2 all have pre-determined facial expressions. Heavy Rain does not.

On a level of personal preference, this is objective. On a technical level, this is a factual statement. Heavy Rain does have the most advanced facial animations to date, for any game. I'm not going to risk being redundant, so I'll suffice to say with reading my previous posts.

Seriously? Do users read? Or does bias inhibit comprehension reading? If you had read my previous posts, as I instructed so, you would have gotten the general idea. Need evidence? Try googling, looking at Youtube. The fact alone that none of Heavy Rain's facial animations are pre-determined ALREADY sets it on a higher technical level than any other game to date. And unless Crysis 2 is implementing similar technology (which is impossible since Crysis 2 is concepted on the foundation of an FPS, and not an interactive experience), then it falls short as well.

I apologize, it wasn't directed towards you, but those who would rather parrot what others have said, even though they have already been corrected on their claims, because of personal bias that they choose to either not respond to, or include in their own posts.

No that was not angry. That was warning. Just because you have a fierce tone don't mean you have to have a fierce face. It was just nutural.

I dont believe this to be the case, crysis has started getting way to much credit from PC fanboys, Heavy rain has the best character detail/facial animation I have ever seen and yes I have crysis and crysis warhead with a gts 250 So I can run crysis fine, I have never downloaded any "mods" for crysis though im just basing it off the Retail game, maybe thats why im not seeing these amazing unbeatable in everything games?

Cryengine2 can do some great facial animations, but Crysis IMO is a bad showcase of it.

Mass Effect 2 looks fantastic because the animations are very fluid and the gesters subtle and realistic. Though it has an advantage over some games because of non-human models.

Some of the characters in ME2 look almost perfect while some at times don't really look that great. Crysis doesn't have tons of cut scenes that display lots of facial animations and Half Life 2 looks too cartoon-ish. As Far as Heavy Rain , the characters look glossy eyed and brain dead.

What other part of the face moves when you talk other than your jaw, eyes and skin? And yes, their shin does streach.

You seem to be forgetting about the eyebrows and forehead.

When has their not been eyebrow movement in a mass effect conversation? I see a wrinkle in someones brow every time I talk to someone unless they're Krogan.

Try Crysis Warhead, way more 3rd person cutscenes. I don't see what the OP is on about with "pre-determined" sh*t. All emotions are captured beforehard. And if you're going on about how they are randomly generated or actually happen when not in a cutscene, then you're going on a very stupid point. The CryEngines 2 and 3 still have the most advanced animations. Youtube it mate.

No, "mate", you would be correct, if not unfortunately, for the fact, you aren't.

I think it's inevitable for a entire game to have asome deal of awkwardness and stifness in animations, after all Heavy Rain is no Avatar. But it should look good, though some times it doesn't, like in this awful picture:

Still Max Payne has the best facial animations ;) .

What?! Then how do you suppose they get the animations hmmm? Maybe your super powerful PS3 is smart enough to generate human animations and emotions ingame lol? *sarcasm*

Most games don't have the subject of what HR is trying to get at. Most animations in videogames are about the explosions and blood splater not Facial animation. :) Because you normally see the back of our hero's head all of the time, do we not?

I apologize, but if you were informed on the situation of that scene, you would know why his expression is displayed as such. In that scenario, he has been nearly beaten to his last breath by Shelby, and at this point has sustained several injuries as well as the obvious blow to the eye. In real life, one would be looking in a similar fashion, that and, once again, Heavy Rain has both on-the fly facial animations, lip-sync, and damage calculators (try the Heavy Rain demo, and allow Shelby to be hit in several different fashions, he turns out with different bruises everytime).

some of those animations are really off. like i just did the romnce thing with kelly and afterwards her eyebrows did a wierd spastic twitch a couple of times in a way which isnt even humanly possible.

This has to hands down the most lulzy post in the history of GS.
