[QUOTE="ocstew"]Try Crysis Warhead, way more 3rd person cutscenes. I don't see what the OP is on about with "pre-determined" sh*t. All emotions are captured beforehard. And if you're going on about how they are randomly generated or actually happen when not in a cutscene, then you're going on a very stupid point. The CryEngines 2 and 3 still have the most advanced animations. Youtube it mate.BlindfireMcgee
No, "mate", you would be correct, if not unfortunately, for the fact, you aren't.
So they are predetermined animations, what you mean is that they have a system of predetermined animations that is used to avoid setting them up frame by frame each time a character talks, thus they can react dynamicaly.
This has to hands down the most lulzy post in the history of GS.

Another thing Gamespot's community lacks? Elaboration. You guys throw out responses, but yet lack clarifying what you mean, so you leave the former to decipher your meanings. So I'll suffice to say that, are you even familiar with the word fatigue? After being beaten senseless, you are going to look dazed, which is captured perfectly in that image. If you disagree, then first go watch a fight scene from any movie, or even a real-life altercation, and you will realize (infact you already should realize) that the more damage your body takes, the less active your brain becomes. Creating very odd expressions.
Did you read Adrian's and my post and look at both videos? Admit you're wrong, the world isn't going to end.ocstew
lol, it's rather strange that I myself must support your argument. But, why would you post a video of a laughable animation from Crysis, and then a video from a Heavy Rain trailer that completely stumps it? I don't even have to create a response, as you have won it for me. That first video was hilarious, and I would direct anyone towards it if they wanted a good laugh.
Edit: If you happen to pause the video at 0:01, you will come upon the reveal that he posesses no tongue and has grown black whiskers. lmao, seriously, that's the best laugh I've had all day.

I think it's inevitable for a entire game to have asome deal of awkwardness and stifness in animations, after all Heavy Rain is no Avatar. But it should look good, though some times it doesn't, like in this awful picture:
BlindfireMcgee
I apologize, but if you were informed on the situation of that scene, you would know why his expression is displayed as such. In that scenario, he has been nearly beaten to his last breath by Shelby, and at this point has sustained several injuries as well as the obvious blow to the eye. In real life, one would be looking in a similar fashion, that and, once again, Heavy Rain has both on-the fly facial animations, lip-sync, and damage calculators (try the Heavy Rain demo, and allow Shelby to be hit in several different fashions, he turns out with different bruises everytime).
Hmmm... quite interesting but you should note the lack of expression on this particular picture. He seens, despite of his wounds, very peaceful and not like he's threatening(or whatever he's doing)someone with a broken glass bottle.
Just sayin' It is not a god given game to mankind, it onlyhas - in most cases- marginally better facial animations than some other's and sometimes slightly inferior.
Facepalm. Did you see teh detail in that video or am I going to show you an even more obvious one. That was not subjective. It was factual and for you not to see that is....retarded. Here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQuMJ0XCVT0&feature=related Go to around 1.30ocstew
Both of those are cutscenes, and therefore the facial animations (and all the animations overall) are pre-determined, and not actually being performed by the engine. I'll instruct you again to the first page of my posts, as I simply refuse to repeat nor quote myself again.

Just leave it alone. No matter what you say you're wrong, he's right. There is no point in arguing with him. Arguing with his is like talking to a brick wall.[QUOTE="ocstew"]Facepalm. So are the ones in Heavy Rain which David Cage has expressed during the development of the game when he described how great the Mo cap was coming out.Dont you just hate when people are like that, makes me want to choke a cute little puppy or do something equally sadistic.Just leave it alone. yeah sure, I lack elaboration skills but you feel the need to throw out "factual" claims with no evidence and that picture you posted I wasn't disagreeing with you, in fact I was on your side for most of this "argument", I was just saying that the picture in correlation to the post made no sense. Who is supposed to know Quantic dreams intentions with that picture? that could just have been a transition animation or maybe that scene just sucked.
samuraiguns
Perhaps you missed the part where I accused him of not being informed on the situation, and you aren't either apparently, which leaves me the most educated in what is being partaken in the scene as I have actually seen the scene play out in several different manners while playing the demo. But even then, logic would lead you to to conclude that he's in a state of desperation as he has both grabbed a severed bottle, and placed it infront of him in a defensive fashion.
This is the inherent flaw with taking screenshots, or even finding screenshots and utilizing them in a debate when you don't know what's actually being taken place, or the context of the scene.
Edit: You are however, correct in that it could be a transition image, which never turn out visually appealing when taken as a still.
I'd like to see some videos showcasing the really expressive facial animations from the demo. I've only seen the mall and junkyard gameplay sections, and the whole thing just seems extremely uncanny and unnatural at times. It's why there's a ton of memes going around making fun of HR right now. People say the demo looks VASTLY better, so I would be interested in seeing that difference.

This low res youtube video does it no justice whatsoever. And their faces do this all the time, while they're running, firing, wherever they are, wathever is happening around them etc. No fancy camera angles and custom made scenes with just the right lighting conditions, this is a generation beyond heavy rain.

Can you beat this BlindMcgee?Grasping at straws are we? Forget the godamm screenshots and look at the videos. I see you loving your Heavy Rain in many threads so maybe you re just a fanboy who can't see through the hype of Heavy Turds. ocstew
Yes, you are correct, if you like something, you are naturally going to be biased towards negative comments on it. But it's one thing to defend something blindly, and another to come to the offensive of something when it's being attacked by misinformed statements. However, you have now left me at a standstill, because after dubbing the game "Heavy Turds" I can safely presume you already dislike the game, therefore your opinion, if anything, would be more in jeopardy then mine.
Can you beat this BlindMcgee?ocstew
Inform me on why you posted that video again? The first animation that is shown is both similiar in appearance to a character model glitching out and a character lacking a tongue, and for some strange reason, black whiskers (pause at 0:01) when their animations are initiated in-game.
Look at teh date. The patch wasn't even released so that is the 1.0 version of the game. I never see this in my game. "This low res youtube video does it no justice whatsoever. And their faces do this all the time, while they're running, firing, wherever they are, wathever is happening around them etc. No fancy camera angles, this is a generation beyond heavy rain." This is what I actually see. Now I haven't played HR and you probably haven't played Crysis so yeah. I DONT GIVE A SANDWICH BLEEP. BOOM HEADSHOT. Beyond caring, since you're so blind.ocstew
Can we perhaps pause for a second so I can add some clarification? I never claimed Crysis' animation fidelity to be lacking, nor did I say any game has lacking animations, I however did state that Heavy Rain's animations are better on a technical scale. Simply because of how much is being calculated by the engine, and how the facial expression are created.
someone show me a video that is better than this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0MxRjrlrss . The beginning of that video automatically puts Heavy Rain above all. Thanks for coming.pstripl3I wish I could dance like the guy seen at 1min 35 secs into thevideo. He had all the moves to pull in the ladies.
[QUOTE="88mphSlayer"]
i dunno from the videos i've seen it has some pretty mediocre lip-syncing, especially when they're being really emotive

um, ok, whatya wanna talk about?
No, Not Heavy Rain. Too glass eyed. Too stiff. I would give it to Mass Effect 2. The Facial Animations and eye movementare fantastic.

Are you serious?

Uncharted 2.

[QUOTE="zarshack"]i dont think so. There are some moments where that game just fails hard with the facial animations. Not true. The Facial animation has no real flaws outside the uncanny valley. The characters look at you, react to you with eye movement and body language like a normal person. I'm on my second run and I still have not found one flaw. Please point one out for me.[QUOTE="dreman999"]

.....im sorry, but if youre actually saying that when shepard talks he doesnt look a bit animatronic than you definitely need to look in the mirror and talk to yourself because NO human talks like shepard :|
i love the game, just beat it yesterday night, but saying the facial expressions are the best is...just not quite there :?

I have to agree with you. I've been play ME2 since it came out (currently on my third playthrough lol). Sometimes the facial animation look great and some time it just isn't there. But I must say the facial animations are far better than the animation in ME1.[QUOTE="muffintheduffin"]

Sometimes the game just lacks the animation to go with the facial expressions.
i hope they use Mo-cap in the next game when it comes to conversation cut scenes.
though that would be A LOT of work .
At least
This time they tried harder with facial expressions than the first one, so i'm glad they put the effort :)
Now i don't feel like there's two plastic dolls opening their mouths and closing with voices coming out :P

If they do take the time to use Mo Cap that would be sweet. But I kind of doubt they will though because of how much work it will take.[QUOTE="jasonharris48"]No, it doesn't Crysis once again.
