Why, The Halo games are great, pure fun shooters. And stop hyping Killzone 2. Have you played the first one. I hope Killzone 2 will rock but I find it confusing how you can be so optimistic about a sequel to something that bad.
For consoles - Halo:CE.
Halo2/3 are mediocre garbage.
If you include PC games there's nothing definatively the best.

PC=Half Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, Stalker, and Crysis
PS3=Resistance
360=Halo 3
Wii=Metroid.
But if I am only looking at this gen and only one system, I vote either Crysis or Half Life 2: Episode 2 (PC version).
Halo 3.
If anyone would like to debate that, you start the argument and I might reply, hopefully someone else will save me the time. I won't bother anymore because I have proved too many people wrong. All i'm going to say is people say Halo 3 sucked because of "teh 12 year olds" and because they didn't like the Cortana level, and the Halo Kart (as I like to call it) level. Oh, and they wanted Master Chief to die in the typical cliche "the hero must die" role. Other than that I have seen no legit argument, last one I can think of is that person placing insane expectations on the game, that's not Halo or Bungies fault. Stop hyping games because they're exclusive.

dude, I'm admittedly slightly more on the ps3 side, but i'm not going to deny the fact that Halo 3 is **** awesome. I don't own it, but I play it quite oftenly at my friends house. Galo 3 is the only reason I'm considering getting a 360, it really is that good. I just don't want to drop $350 on a piece of turd with a freaking shining golden nugget stuck in, because you know, you have to stick your hand in it. THen again, after you do, it's so awesome.
I'll probably get it for that nugget when it hits $300 with a HDD

Metroid is not a shooter
Yes it is. Don't know WTF you are smoking, but you better stop. It is frying your brain kid. Not only is it a shooter, it is a FPS. Which is the very thing this thread is about.Ever? Idunno. I enjoyed Halo 2 online and Goldeneye equally.
Today? Halo 3 or CoD4. Depending on your taste.

Which is the very thing this thread is about.First-person action-adventure in which the action is shooting. There is a HUUUUUGGGGGEEEEE difference. It's kinda like calling Mass Effect a TPS. Sure, the shooting is there, but that's not what it is.

i can tell how good a game is just by looking at a gameplay video.. i dont need a demo or a stupd review to tell me what to buy and not..... for example when i saw the heavenly sword videos i know that this will be my best game ( it was untill MGS4 came out )
and when i saw call of duty 4 i know that this will be the best FPS on consoles and it is
folklore... i dont like RPGs when i saw this game i know i am going to like this game... i bough it and loved it
I cant believe all of the people saying Halo 3...that game was awful.
Anyways, for consoles, Halo: CE and PC included Half Life 2.

Yes it is. Don't know WTF you are smoking, but you better stop. It is frying your brain kid. Not only is it a shooter, it is a FPS. Which is the very thing this thread is about.please dont revert to personal insults just because you're wrong Metroid is a first person action adventure that happens to have major shooting elements what are we going to say next is Fallout 3 now a shooter because you use a gun in the fp theres a huge differnece between CoD 4 or HL 2 and Metroid which is why every major site lists it as an Action Adventure
On Consoles
This gen: Halo 3
All time: Halo Combat Evolved.
In fact Halo Combat Evolved>Halo 3.
Major flaws versus Halo 3 is that visually it isn't as impressive, audio wise it is behind, the 360 downloadable version has framerate dips alot, the hit detection for the enemies is wierd, and some overpowered weapons>
Positives
That recharge shield wasn't so noobish. There was a health pack system. Why did the take this away?
The Elites didn't speak english(making there sound clips funny) and were far more intimidating than the brutes(monkeys)
The Flood was actually fun to fight. THey hit you with a few melee strikes and your shield was done. In Halo 3 they are basically giant "shoot me now" signs.
The AI is fantastic all the way around. Not only are the enemies fantastic AI,but so are the ally
COOP is always a blast, always will be
The Bungie Story telling which was bad for Halo 2 and Halo 3(which needed to put better effort into storytelling) worked way better with Halo 1(mainly because Halo 1 is about the environment and more of an enigma feel)
Level design was repetitive. But the missions were intense and epic. Not the big scale you see in Halo 2 and Halo 3. But they were still pretty big and very good
The final 2 missions for Halo 3 sucked. The final 2 missions for Halo 1 kickedass. It was Masterchief versus Covenant versus Flood versus Sentinels
The best escape run ever(god Halo 3s never rekindled the magic of Halo 1s run).
I mean god I know games have been dumbed down before, I know originals are originals.
But How they hell did Bungie go from Halo Combat Evolved to Halo 2 and Halo 3.
Seriousaly the only thing Halo 2 and 3 did way better were features, more refined controls, weapons, better score, visuals, and far superiorer MP.
In terms of Single player Campaigns.
Halo 1 trumps all console shooters in terms of the single player experience IMO.
WTF happened Bungie?jg4xchamp
Because 99% of the people did not want Halo 2 or Halo 3 because of single player, they wanted it for the multiplayer. That's where it shines, and if they risked dumbing down the single player, so be it.
Either way Bungie was screwed, it was either going to be "you guys teh sux u focused on sp and not mp" or vice versa.
I have to go with Halo 3 due to the MP.
As for the campaign I feel all 3 Halo games has it share of pros and cons.
