What I'm saying is (and notice I didn't establish this as criteria for inclusion, Bansheeneedle did) is that if we go by critical acclaim, Halo 2 does NOT deserve to be there, since it is not amongst the top 5 most critically acclaimed shooters of all time, and ergo, does not belong on that poll.

goldeneye and halfliife together saved the fps genre. I played goldeneye all through high school. I beat every challenge, got every extra cheat (btw, that is intensely difficult. Remember Facility, remember Archives? so much pain, so much joy). It is a true shame that ms bought rare. Now goldeneye won't be on xbla or the vc.

Look at the fact that Halo 2 has 3 votes, it's not a very competitive contender, like Perfect Dark or Half Life 2 could be.
There is another FPS game there; Thief: Deadly Shadows. you keep saying crytical acclaim is what counts though. You hypocryte. Bansheeneedle said critical acclaim was what counts in response to Baddog criticising that Halo 2 be on that list. Re-read the thread. And scores do not necessarily equal critical acclaim, since if Halo 2 is scoring better than Half Life 2, but Half Life 2 is winning their Shooter GOTY awards, obviously they think Half Life 2 is better.

Not an amazing list, I enjoyed Quake, the original. The first fully 3D game and one of the first or the first (I think) to have online and it has yet to be surpassed.
Out of the list Doom was the best for its time, It was the Crysis of 1993, as Quake was in 1996.

Marathon added more to the FPS then Doom did.
Yeah, he must have gotten confused after reading thruogh all the reviews that rated Halo 2 94% or above.
Marathon only added dual weilding, Doom put FPS on the map and made the genre, Wolf 3D kickstarted it but it didn't have the effect that Doom had. To say Marathon added more to the genre is beyond the realms of stupidity.

My vote goes to Halo CE as the best FPS of all time simply because it was extremely fast paced, beautiful music and it had a kick-ass story to go along with it. Click_Clock

Half-Life 2 had a faster pace than Halo, it also has the better story, and honestly, why people get excited over the same melody repeating an x number of times (like in halo) still amazes me.....

And yes i do have half life and half life 2, and Battlefield 2(demo hired it for a bit though) i currently have 2142, and F.E.A.R Combat, And also have played a demo of ut004 and yet none feels the same as Halo 1........they just dont have *it* that halo made u feel
That's an extremely poor list. Of those, I'll say Half-Life, but damnit, where on that list are the likes of Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Jedi Knight, Unreal Tournament, etc? If System Shock 2 counts (which I actually consider a RPG, not an FPS), then I would say System Shock 2 is the best. And for everyone who says Halo 1 is a good game, I have just one word to say: Library.
