[QUOTE="whocares4peace"]I think this is pretty much the single best character model on consoles.
NinjaMunkey01
that is pretty good. Is that actual gameplay or a cutscene?
Cutscene is gameplay in mass effect

Solid Snake is the best looking character model for console period. If u have played the game u will see just how real life he looks especially when his hair is like moving around. Best looking game character ive seen to date on any console. He looks so good that u can even compare his character model to crysis character models.
clintos59
Really? Personaly I think it looks like the last gen doom 3 engine
Generally, when it comes to consoles and not PC's (Yes Crysis is the daddy sorry kids), Mass Effect looks better.
Well i think they got point - if they still deny it - to hell with them, they arent worth effort
Lets just let this thread continue as it should be or let it die
Lidve
True, somebody post Halo 3 faces now!
[QUOTE="Lidve"][QUOTE="clintos59"] He looks so good that u can even compare his character model to crysis character models. Kez1984
Ok,that would be mistake
While it looks nice, MGS is nowhere near Crysis quality
But if we are just judging by artst*yle than i could say that MGS can win there,
but tehnicaly - no way
This is the kind of honest unbiased response that sadly lacks 99% of the time round here.
Did they decapitate Ziyi Zhang?[QUOTE="clintos59"]

Sorry but thats your opinion. My evidence and proof is not only backed up from images but also most reviewers backup my claim aswell. Crysis And Crysis Warhead and a few other PC games>>MGS4>>The Rest. Nuff said.

I heared that in Halo 3 the surroundings are reflected in Master Chiefs helmet glass, using cubemaps...true?

Why not. Ill brb with proof since lazyness is something a few people would go as far as to not try an prove there own point, ill edit my comment as soon as I bring proof. How many game sites u want proving my statement?
Quite alot seeing as you said "most".Kez1984
Dude u asking for too much man. How about I make it easy on u and show u what IGN Gamespot and Gamepro had to say and then show u how many game sites gave it a perfect 10 meaning that the graphics was a 10. Then u show me how many perfect scores Mass Effect had. Deal? Ok im first.
Gamespot: Cutscenes that are rendered fully in real time within the game engine. It's impressive enough that these scenes look as good as any prerendered cinematic you've ever watched. It's even more amazing when those same scenes transition without pause into gameplay, and the same hulking mech you watched lumber about in the cinematic is looming above you. The subtle animations, the lush environments, and the rich textures are the same in and out of story sequences, and the effect is so seamless it may take your breath away.
Gamespot Review: 10/10
Gamepro: There's not much left to say. Metal Gear Solid 4 is a brilliant, moving, exciting, intense action game that succeeds hugely at everything it sets out to do. It sets new standards for graphics, sound, gameplay, and storytelling, and it may be years before it is equaled, let alone surpassed. You will not play a better game this year-maybe even this decade. If you own a PS3, buy this game immediately. And if you don't own a PS3, well, it's time to start saving those nickels and dimes.
Gamepro Review: 5/5
IGN: Is it possible to give a game an 11? If so, this would be the game that would merit that score. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a title that exceeds all of the hype that was attached to the title. Regardless of whether you've seen every trailer and screenshot, read every preview and heard every interview, you won't get a full sense of how phenomenal this title is unless you sit down and experience it for yourself.
Incredibly detailed and visually breathtaking, with amazing camera angles, MGS4 is one of the most beautiful titles ever made.

[QUOTE="Krigon"][QUOTE="IgorVitaly"][QUOTE="Krigon"]Kai says Hello. Lidve
FAIL that is offline rendered and recorde into video. It couldnt be done in real-time and the videos hide loading time! Been stated by devs themselfs!
And where did he state that i couldn't show that kind of picture? He is just asking for the best character models for a console.
You know what fails? all those crysis pictures that don't belong in this thread.
Oh really ? Who first mentioned Crysis?
Mybe you should go back a little and actualy READ
First was some guy who said MGS 4 is so good its on par with crysis.. and you know what comes next...
Crysis shouldn't have been mentioned. The thread clearly says Console Character Models. Last time I checked a PC wasn't a console.Lol, MGS4 = most overblown and overhyped game when it comes to graphics. MGS fans show the pics, yet they're still not impressive... They show the in-game gameplay screens, and there's really nothing mindblowing or anything.
Anyways, on consoles it would have to be Uncharted and Mass Effect.
Idk if any1 else saw this thread, but a week back or something some1 posted a link to a site where some developer had posted the polygon count for the main char's in a few games. I dont have a link though =/
Anyway these are those I remember.
Gears 1 about 14k
RES4 about 10k (yes the last gen game, i know, it's almost as much as gears)
Crysis about 60k
Mgs4 about 60k
And yes, this is truly crazy, Lair has the highest count with about 120k (with the dragon though).
He listed a few more but I cant remember them. Ofc there is alot more to char models then just the poly count, but still kinda funny to know ;)

1 there are some wrong parts, first Lair dragon + soldier is around 25k polygons, 120 million polys is for the CGI (used in CGI video for Lair).
2 the MGS4 main character got downgraded from having 60k vertices hair and 5000 vertices mustache. Its now around 20K for Snake and less for others, thats why you see hard edges on them.
3 Crysis are between 20k-60k ingame due to shader layers and geometry base.
4 Gears has around 10k for ingame characters and 15k for cuts-cene models
5 RE has minimal world geometry and focuses the polygon budget on the characters
:) Thats it!

What? you're saying snake's hair and mustache was made up of 65k polys? and was then downgraded to 20k? That's insane=O or did I totally not understand what you meant/you wrote wrong?
edit: what's a vertic?

From what i've read, the 20k poly character in MGS4 is used in gameplay while the 60k in cutscenes, while initially they wanted a sole 60k for both. Nothing confirmed though, i'm still waiting for some reliable info.

As the char's look the same under cutscenes/gameplay that cant be correct.

Do you have the game ? i mean, the difference is immense if you look closely and not only the polygon count but the lighting too.

Yes I have it, played it 6,5 times too ;) And to me it looks like the poly count is the same, the thing that makes snake/other char's look better in cutscenes is clearly the light from what I've seen. But Im no developer so I dont rly know anything. But If you find the correct spot under gameplay you can make the light hit snake just right and he'll look "real".

A polygon is made up of vertices so 60k vertices aint 60k polygons. I would say it would be 20k for hair and 2k for mustache but that was for first build shown. Now the hair looks like 500-1000 polygons and msutache about 50 polygons. Character as total is around 20k.
For fun the hair for Nate in Uncharted is 2500 polygons, and for a Crysis soldier with hair its 5000 polygons! :)

There is a cut-scene that is a video, recorded offline (means not real-time rendered ingame) with the game engine frame by frame using the more detailed Snake model if I recall it correct.

It's hilarious how much your fanboy goggles blind you. You praise GTAIV's disgusting graphics and bash Metal Gears, and fail to see what a contradiction it is. It's okay, MGS is a PS3 exclusive, and you only bought the PS3 so you could be a "legitimate" member of SW, I get it.

That makes logical sense. Someones going to spend $400 for a video game console, just to look legit in here. Unlike you, he is a multiplat owner and has a right to his opinion. Sorry if you can't accept it but his credability >>>>>>>> your credability...
Has anyone noticed that MGS4 has very little bump-mapping. Everything is very smooth and shiney which kinda hides the fact they're using low res textures. That's understandable givent he PS3s ram. However, given the resources they do have with the PS3, I think they've done a very very good job artistically.
