A metrosexual is winning the poll?McdonaIdsGuy
How is drake metrosexual.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Nobody liked the guy from Assassins Creed? Desmond Miles or Altair. IIJuggaNottIIi was going to say the same, he may have been in a less than perfect game. but as a character Altair was cool
Geralt from The Witcher as well as the entire TF2 team.mo0ksiOh, yeah, I agree, maybe Geralt's character is not entirely new, but definetly new to the video games.
[QUOTE="Nike_Air"][QUOTE="Blackbond"]He has already been in 3 , but that is besides the point. So then you would agree that there are different levels of icons in this industry in theory ?I'm saying that Sackboy isn't even up there with Kratos. Kratos is just now starting to make his into becoming an icon. His 3rd game will likely cement that.
Blackbond
You pretty much have icons characters like Master Chief and then you have legends of gaming in characters like Sonic, Mario, Snake, Cloud, and Megaman ect who are also icons. No way in hell Sackboy who is in a game that has only been out a few months has an iconic character. Thats just wrong. You don't become an icon in gaming or an icon in the industry in mere months.
Pretty much any new character would be be an icon by your logic.
i would call mii's icons before sack boysshepherd from mass effect,
Because you control his actions
he is controlled by your/ my will
So he/me/you >>>>>>>>all
honestly, before i opened this thread i was thinking heavy or scout from TF2
lol, so glad to see it on the poll
i mean cmon now, how can you not love this guy
drake? seriously? there are loads better characters than him! Andrew Ryan and Fontaine from Bioshock, GLaDOS from Portal, Altair from Assassin's Creedakif22
Fontaine? Fontaine destroyed that game for me. Horrible voice acting took the drama right out of it, and the end, I mean that was just silly.
Drake is a pretty solid character. He is meant to represent a more ordinary protagonist than the ridiculous bad ass style characters you get in most games. He has a great element of humour, and is generally likeable, while still remaining fairly beliveable.
[QUOTE="Thewbacca"][QUOTE="Blackbond"]That being said, he has become somewhat of a mascot, and has staked his claim as a legend for all that LittleBigPlanet is.You pretty much have icons characters like Master Chief and then you have legends of gaming in characters like Sonic, Mario, Snake, Cloud, and Megaman ect who are also icons. So being some what of a mascot = iconic now?
A legend for all that Little Big Planet is? Yeah the game isn't legendary yet.
Legends are built on a Legacy. You don't make either off of one game.
A legacy comes from longevity, but also from breaking new ground. The game itself is already going to go down in history for handing the tools to make a game of your own to the everymen, but it also will continue to live on as gaming platform in and of itself.A legacy comes from longevity, but also from breaking new ground. Its going to go down in history for handling the tools to make a game of your own to everymen?
You heard it here first people. The majority of PC games are going down in history.
icon definition - One who is the object of great attention and devotion
I don't see what would exclude Sackboy from being an iconic character. People are worshiping him right now , with their avatars and sigs .... desiring plushies or other merchandise. We know the character , most of the gaming media and people who follow games on a regular basis do too. He is right now , likely making people smile who aren't even gamers and making haters sick to their stomachs. If he wasn't relevant , than why would people be talking about Sackboy right now and why is he one of the choices for best new character this gen in this thread ? Why is he one of the characters on Gamespot's holiday buying guide right next to Mario ? To say that Sackboy or LBP is irrelevant right now is disingenuous to put it lightly.
Icon really doesn't need to be just about longevity , game apperances , or early low game sales. Sackboy has already staked his claim. He is one of those iconic characters that is associated with a great game , a great console , a generation even , and a gaming future. He transcends his own platform.
Bow down before the one you love.
I don't know if he's a new character overall, but I do know his first time in video games. Geralt from The Witcher.

Well first off Sackboy is not one of great attention as he hasn't sold to a great deal and he is also not one of devotion as not a great deal of people are devoted in playing him.
People worshipping SackBoy lol? Omg get serious. What a low number of worshippers.
The fact that you think SackBoy is an icon after what a few months on the market is hilarious to me. He hasn't staked any claim. He hasn't transcended his own platform (thats what Snake did)
Calling SackBoy an icon in gaming is belittling how far gaming has come and the icons of gaming have come.

Well first off Sackboy is not one of great attention as he hasn't sold to a great deal and he is also not one of devotion as not a great deal of people are devoted in playing him. LBP doesn't need to sell an insane amounts of copies to get the attention , I have already made that case.
People worshipping SackBoy lol? Omg get serious. What a low number of worshippers. i have seen it first hand. And it could be a high number to many. That is just opinon based.
The fact that you think SackBoy is an icon after what a few months on the market is hilarious to me. He hasn't staked any claim. He hasn't transcended his own platform (thats what Snake did) Why would it be hilarious ? I just showed you why it isn't a ridiculous notion. He transcends his own platform not because he appears on another platform , but because people not affiliated with the ps3 know who he is as a character and the thing he is associated with and represents to gaming.
Calling SackBoy an icon in gaming is belittling how far gaming has come and the icons of gaming have come.More like you took a simple opinion and saw it as a huge threat to those whose you beleive are bigger icons.
Relax man. Take a deep breath and mill this over for awhile. Nobody is insulting gaming , Mario, MegaMan or anything else. The more and more you go on and on about the ridiculousness of it is really ironic at this point.Oh yeah !

Your definition of iconic means that a vast majority of characters in gaming are iconic.
You have seen first hand the SackBoy worshippers? Well you must live in Japan then I would presume. Too bad all the worshippers couldn't worship and buy the game so Sony doesn't have to make exuses of it performing less then expectations.
Sackboy does not transcend his own platform and because he is affliiated with the PS3 doesn't mean anything either. You were talking about an icon of gaming and an icon of the industry not an icon of the PS3.
Yeah I take your words as a threat. OOOOO scary.....
Casuals and to an extent even non gamers know who a gaming Icon is. People don't know Sack Boy like that period.
You do not become an icon of gaming in a matter of months. You don't become an icon of anything in a matter of months.
[QUOTE="p4ddym"]It has to be Drake for me. People has said Isaac Clarke? He didnt even speak.C-LeeNeither does gordan freeman, and hes a great character. No he isn't, he's a terrible character. He has absolutely no personality, and they didn't even bother to rationalise it. He's a puppet of those around him, a tool.
