We're about to be hit by a wave of MMOs that may dethrone WoW. Each of them have stellar graphics and are bring something new to the table. Read below to see why they could beat WoW.
Guild Wars 2
Why is it special?
It introduces a more active combat system (similar to TERA but with auto aim) and a large focus on story. But the Dynamic Events are the most interesting. And all you have to pay is the initial $50. There are no subscription fees and no pay to win. There is also a mobile app (guild chat, aution house) like WoW's. It will have no monthly fee and may have a small initial fee to keep out spammers.
"In traditional MMOs, when a quest is completed it has no real effect on the game world. You receive your reward and then move on, looking for the next quest to do. The world appears no better or worse for your actions. InGW2, the outcome of every event will directly affect the game world around you. If an enemy dredge army is marching out of their main base, players will be asked to mobilize with their allies and help destroy the army. If the dredge army is defeated, other events will cascade out from there. Players will be able battle their way inside the dredge base, face off against their commander, rescue captured friendly troops being held in the dredge prisons, and even hold the captured base while fighting waves of dredge, who arrive from deep underground to try and take back their home.
If, on the other hand, players fail to destroy the army, it will establish a fort in friendly player territory. From there, the dredge will send shipments of troops and supplies to the fort from the main base while building up walls, turrets, and siege engines to help defend it. Enemy dredge forces will then begin to move out from their newly established fort to attack friendly player locations in the area, sending snipers out into the hills, sending assault team forces to capture friendly player villages, and trying to smash down friendly fortifications with massive dredge walkers. All of these events continue to cascade out into further chains of events where cause and effect is directly related to the player's actions. [...]"

The Exiled Realms of Arborea or TERA Online
Why is it special?
It is a true action MMO. That means that there is no auto aim and you must aim all your shots. There is no auto attack too. So it plays more like a console action game with the depth of an MMORPG. It also has a political system that creates a more dynamic world than you'd see in popular MMOs today.
You can become king of one of the three cities and higher or lower respawns in zones. You can send rebels (people can rebel) to jail or anyone that pisses you off, I assume. You can change the city and make new buildings. Get new NPCs or remove them. You can even raise taxes! The taxes go straight to your wallet. There are two ways to become king. You must first be a mayor (king and mayor aren't the real names). To do that, you can PvP or get voted in. Then you can PvP more or get voted in as king. Kingship lasts two weeks and if you piss people off, they can throw you out. I believe there is guild housing too. :o
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Why is it special?
It is a Star Wars MMO that is being made by Bioware. Like Guild Wars 2, it has a strong focus on story and has a (mostly) high quality developer. The game has been in the making for years with lots of awesome CGI teases. I read that each of the eight ****s has 200 hours of gameplay. I believe that is 8 1/2 days played. And it is being made by Bioware!
Most people only play a single MMO at a time.So which will you choose and why?
