I love all kinds of platformers VERY much. It's probably my favourite gaming franchise of all time, but I have always believed that 2D platformers are just simply far greater than 3D platformers by default.

Yoshi's Island is probably still one of the absolute best platformers ever

I would also like to do something that is frowned upon... I'd like to suggest that game as new as 2009 deserves to be mentioned in this thread. Without nostalgia glasses on, New Super Mario Bros. Wii boasts the greatest and most clever level designs in any Mario Platformer period. There, I said it

ive been around since the first mario and for me has to be super mario world. the amount of secrets and shortcuts in that game was jaw dropping and it played absolutely amazingly. mario 64 is a close 2nd, then mario 3. the early 90s was the best era of gaming for me. snes + amiga + being a teenager = gaming heaven

Super Mario Bros 3 is just pure awesome no other platformer has the magic and creative power ups of that game.
