Best RPG ever made?

Well it will increase, the price has obviously gone up.

This would be my top 5:

1. Final Fantasy IX.
2. Shining Force
3. Persona 3
4. Persona 4
5. KOTOR

I am playing Deus Ex right now but I guess it could count as an rpg.

This question shouldn't even be asked... there's just too many...

but personally I've played FF3 (6 in JP) and CT so much... I'll have to go with those two.

Also depends on the mood I'm in.. time of year... really, too many great RPGs its not even funny.

Sometimes I'll feel like more open ended = better and go with something like KOTOR or Fallout other times it'll be the unconventional JRPG like Persona 3 and 4 or Digital Devil Saga. When I'm feeling nostalgic I'll say it's either CT or FF3. When I feel like life is unfair and s lot of games go underappreciated I'll say Skies of Arcadia is the best... and so on...

Really depends on the mood I'm in

So what do you guys believe is the best RPG ever made? Personally I'd have to go with Chrono Trigger, easily my favourite and personally I believeis the greatest one ever made.

Knights of the Old Republic for me. Jade Empire and Final Fantasy IV come close but it was a true Star Wars fan dream. TheColbert

I have a few. I really liked Ultima IV for its time - very solid game. Baldur's Gate 2 was my favorite rpg of last gen, though Planescape Torment was a close second. So far Mass Effect 2 has been for this gen.

Curse of the Azure Bonds (and all Gold Box), Star Control II, Fallout 1-3 come to mind but definitely not any JRPGs imo...

*EDIT* Ultima IV on my C64 ...good times.

Chrono Cross is mine. Legend of Mana is close.

Well if the Mass Effect trilogy counts as one game, Ill take that.

If not, ummm, Chrono Cross. But "best" is simply an opinion, and consensus is nearly impossible.

I think the best RPG made is the Kotor series. Some glitches but the story was excellent and kept me playing. I would love a Kotor 3. I really enjoyed the Mass Effect games and I am looking forward to FF13 on PS3.
