Halo's story? It it is high art. It is populist. And yet it also has real depth for people that want to dig deeper. But you see, it's not all about how pretentious and long-winded your story can be. In fact, good stories usually carry mass appeal. Oh, and the term is Lovecraftian horror. Yes, he's so damn good he actually got his own adjective/sub genre. Sorry, I hate it when people forget that. There are very, very few quality stories in video-games, it makes me wince to think Halo is regarded as some sort of high art by fans, critics and Bungie even though it is the most tawdry, shamelessly populist tale around when compared to a sci-fi novel. Bioshock made huge progress, it owes its debt to the scanning system of Metroid Prime which allows the player to decide if they experience the story inits fullest. Eternal Darkness is another notable mention, with its Lovecraft-esque horror.
However the best story in games is undoubtedly Tetris, the philosophical arguments that a simple puzzleposes are vast. ;)

It's just a pitty that Halo's story is so poorly told that it's quite hard to appreciate it.

Indeed. That's Halo 2 and 3. Halo: CE was actually pretty darn good which is why I think people still find that the best. That reminds me: Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy. One of my most favourite games, but it unfortunately has a bad story and uneven storytelling -- something that Quantic Dream obviously was striving not to achieve.FrozenLiquid
It started out pretty well for me but not only did they completey screw it up at the end it felt like they honestly had no idea what was going on or if they did they had no idea how to explain what was going on within the time frames of the game.

Here there be Spoilers At first it was good. My first time with the game years ago fortunately stopped before the mess. At first I thought the super powers were fine, but then it turned into some Dragonball Z match :? Who knew the ancient Mayan powers knew about Oriental Martial arts? Oh, what the hell was up with Lucas Kane/Carla Valenti? She meets up with him, and after a few days of not even talking to each other on a personal level, they start to have sex? And wasn't it established that as well as the entire world at an extremely cold temperature, Lucas was a physically very cold person? What she wanna do? Ride a popsicle stick or something? Bet she got frostbite on the inside. Seriously the most awkward moment I've experienced in recent times.[QUOTE="Foolz3h"][QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"]That reminds me: Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy.
