Really has to be Bioshock, that game had a plot worthy of a blockbuster movie, and honestly one of the best plot-twist ever in any media.Gamingcucumber

Um, depending on which plot twist you're talking about...me and my friends were actually joking about that happening months before the game came out, since it had been used in a previous (and very similar) game. When it actually happened, I was totally disappointed. :P

Anyway, I agree with Hotel Dusk and The Witcher, but I'd like to throw in another great story nobody has mentioned - Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer. Certainly the most overlooked RPG of this gen.

The Darkness

Lost Odyssey

Uncharted

Brother In Arms: Hells Highway

Too Human (The Last Half)

The Phoenix Wright games

The World Ends With You

Hotel Dusk (That plot twist at the end blew my mind.)

A few

Resistance: Seemingly shallow at first sight, its actually incredibly deep. I will say that the second game had very poor delivery of the story but it did have potential to be good that time around.

Dead space- Religious fanatics and alien monsters. Wonderful.

Im going to take a lot of heat since people got tired of the games repetitiveness and seemingly boring story but, drum roll, flame shield on.....Assassins creed. Essentially the same take as resistance. It may have boring for quite a few but I can take it. Ive watched the Big mama/President mgs2 cutscene a few times so there ya go. I have patience. I just hated the awful cliffhanger and seemingly rushed parts at times.

I thought Resistance 1's story is awesome, but Resistance's 2 was poorly-done. For shame Insomniac. Dead Space's was interesting, but not very driving. And I actually liked Assassins Creed, but the ending made me want punch a baby panda.

Odin Sphere. Not only unique but extremely well-crafted. It flows so very well and ends amazingly.

Most underrated story would be Neverwinter Nights 2 : Mask of the Betrayer , which also has the most underrated characters and dialogues, both of which are better than any game I have played in the past few years

bout time this thread took off. The problem with Assassin's Creeds story was that Altiar's story was amazing and I loved it , Desmond's story was retarded and totally forgettable

That's funny TC, I was just going to say Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. It has an absolutely brilliant and deep storyline, but people don't seem to care.

Mass effect, and maybe, despite it not being as deep as it could be, and requiring some knowledge of Nore mythology to fully appreciate, Too Human. Poor Baldur ...

mainly b/c it came from a WW2 shorter, I dont think a lot of people hear even played it even if it would've got .5 higher and AAA I doubt it would be talked about .

Why are people mentioning MGS4, Mass Effect, The Half Life series and Bioshock? They may have good stories, but it's pretty much everybody knows about those games.

Yeah I'd had to go with that too tho I wasn't that fond of the characters I kinda liked the more comical compansions in the original.

World in Conflict.

Well written, well presented, and had compelling characters. Great stuff.

edit*

Oh The Witcher - hands down is the best

well comical characters are certainly good for a laugh, but I personally found the characters like "many of one" and the dreamwalker more interesting with their backstories, actions and all

I'll also add Haze on the list, you dont play as any super soldier or seasoned vet you play as a college kid who has never fought a battle before and the general message the game trys to get across is that War is bad, the plot twist at the end is pretty awesome too.

TWEWY and Hotel Dusk had 2 of my favorite stories. Professor Layton also had a charming story. Some others I'd like to mention would be Bioshock and Uncharted.
