Square Enix for the Kingdom Hearts series alone. Honorable mentions go to Kojima, Sony Santa Monica (GOW series), and Naughty Dog (Jak & Daxter and Uncharted)

Oh, and if one were to argue that the quality of the plot doesn't factor into good storytelling, I'd include Insomniac. All Ratchet and Clank games great storytelling. With the Resistance franchise though, R1 had a good plot but dry storytelling, while R2 had better storytelling but an underdeveloped plot. They need to find some middle ground for the third game. And I also forgot Sucker Punch. I don't know about the Sly Cooper series, but inFamous had an amazing plot and top-notch storytelling.

MGS3's story was epic, Kojima for the win.

Jak and GoW are very good games but they're not exactly strong in the story department. :?

Odd, in my opinion, they were especially strong in the story department. :? Most others seem to agree.

God of War doesn't have all that great of a story. It's more about the violence than the story. I mean, let's call a spade a spade.

Well, it's pretty accurate to Greek mythology. While the main theme is violence and vengeance, it does cover that theme extensively through Kratos' story of both pain and destruction. Also, the ending of the trilogy (GOW 3) brings some variety into the mix.

In any case, if you didn't enjoy the plot or even if it didn't interest you for whatever, you still have to admit the storytelling is epic and damn good.

I thought it was good in GoW3 (only one I've played, though I liked it quite a bit), until the end. The whole Hope thing makes sense in the context of Greek Mythology, but it felt kind of forced. Didn't seem very Kratosy to me.

i would have to say bioware, never played any MGS games. Valve shouldnt even be on the list, half-life barely has any storytelling compared to other games but portal is funny, don't know if that counts.

SquareSoft

Too bad they don't make good stories anymore though. Their stories pretty much drop off a cliff with the crap that was VII. IX was ok but, Xenogears was the height of their storytelling.

Bioware unquestionably. Kojima? Seriously? He had some good ones, but his latest (MGS4) had the worst story of any Metal Gear. It was poorly told, convoluted, contrived (bringing people back from the dead), and too long.

Most of these are good storytellers, but Bioware stands out from the pack because of all of the very different games(yes I know they are all RPG's) and different IP's they have used to create great stories with. I mean look at what they did with Sonic Chronicles. Nobody knew what to expect from that game, and it was a fantastic game that was given universally good reviews and won a lot of awards. Put that together with all of their big-name titles and you begin to see a pattern.

Kojima is my personal pick.

Valve, aka halflife 2 would be overall.

I actually chuckled at Valve being on there lol.

I'd say Square or Bioware.
