Bethesda apologizes for Starfield exclusivity

After months of "will they, won't they" speculation, Microsoft and Bethesda have confirmed that its upcoming RPG Starfield will be an Xbox Series X|S and PC exclusive. And though this may be frustrating for PlayStation owners, Bethesda's longtime marketing boss Pete Hines says he understands this is disappointing, and apologized.

"If you're a big fan of stuff we make and a game that we're making is no longer available on your platform I totally understand if you are unhappy or pissed. I get it, those are all real feelings and frustrations," Hines said in an interview with GameSpot.

"I don’t know how to allay the fears and concerns of PlayStation 5 fans other than to say, 'Well, I’m a PlayStation 5 player as well,' Hines added. "And I’ve played games on that console, and there’s games I’m gonna continue to play on it. But if you want to play Starfield? PC and Xbox."

"Sorry, all I can really say is, 'I apologize,' because I'm certain that's frustrating to folks, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it."

Just wait for 2 years. By then, Starfield may come to PS5. At least MS is getting their exclusives now.

What Mr Hines doesn't know is that every PS5 owner has a gaming rig, which is way more powerful than a Series X. So in reality, we don't care.

What is Sony's hard counter to Starfield this game was gonna sell gangbusters for sony in 2022 and it makes them look horrible to consumers is Sony gonna make this up or whats happening quarter 4 2022 is gonna look horrible on the book for sony now.

It sucks for PS owners, and he gets that. I'd be the same, but business is business, and it doesn't always work out for everyone.

Lol there is nothing to apologize, for starters Gamepass will be everywhere no need for Xbox console to own at all, and Bethesda is not what they used to be all they do is release buggy Games and the only game that interest me is Starfield because its a new IP and i really know nothing about it all it is as of right now is a hyped game,

Do sony devs apologize to Nintendo , Xbox and PC gamers when they paid these devs to only make ps games only ? NO. so cope and suffer ponies.

I prefer my PS5. I don't own an XSX. That might change as exclusives and games I can't play on PS5 or Switch are released. Assuming they are decent. I don't entirely trust that just yet.

I think this is an important point as I said in that last sentence that exclusives are important to me. I don't blame MS for making Bethesda games exclusive. They want more people to come to GP and to even purchase Xboxes. This is a good way to do it. I do think that the devs at Bethesda were put in an awkward situation where they were developing this game for the PS5 and with the merger that was thrown out. Probably a lot of hate coming their way over that.

As others have said...no I'm not.

anyone can play the game on their PC, heck they can even just stream the game on an older pc if they have a direct ethernet connection with good speeds.

@Jendeh: That was a big reason in me purchasing the XSX, I never bothered with the Xbone but MS have made some decent moves this time around. Now if only they stole some elements of Sony's controller because I love that thing

The technical aspects of porting a game/making it multiplatform, I would assume, have little to nothing to do with executing one's artistic vision, gameplay goals, and overall design in game development. Not having a game on one platform isn't going to make your game better--it could make it worse, sure, if you don't have it on PC because then you're just making it for console and at that point you're making a game for the lowest-common denominator and your value go out the door--but better? No way.

Playstation games are going to PC now. So why use the playstation controller which is the worst controller to play games. Just get the few playstation exclusive games that look good on the PC and play the rest on the Xbox with the best controller and Game Pass.

A PC/PS5 combo is basically saying pay the absolute most for gaming because of Sony and also have the worst controller.
