I was quite shocked last weekend: I was in Singapore and went to one of the main electronic malls over there and there was something really amusing running on.

Sony arranged a road show where its HD TVs were on offer. The cheapest model on display was a 40'' one having a retail price of S$3,800 (about US$2,470). It was sold for S$3,000 "only" (US$ 1,950) PLUS a FREE PS3!!!

Are the sales so bad they even have to give it away for free as a "gadget"together withan already discounted and on offer item??? Impressive...

I wonder how many set they "sold" anyway....

i wouldnt call that free, i'd call it a marketing strategy. i was hoping they were really just handing them out, but that's not good enought to say much except they're trying to sell HDTVs and show off Blu Ray and PS3's graphics on HDTVs

Yeah, but it would make more sense to me to sell a PS3 and offer a HD TV at half the price, for example. In this way they make the PS3 appear like a gadget that no one wants to buy by itself....

It's amazing how companies can make consumers believe that they're really getting free products. So was anyone able to get a PS3 free without buying a TV?

You're still paying for the PS3. They'd be selling that TV for cheaper if it didn't have a "free" PS3 bundled with it

ive seen the same kind of deals at my local Best Buy

Same, I was in a local Best Buy here in Norfolk and one of the employees told me, "We have a deal right now, if you buy a 40" flat panel TV, we'll give you a PS3." Than I asked him why they were doing this and he replied, "We can't get rid of them.".

Thats not free. Its a marketing Gimick.

if the TV costs $2000, and the PS3 costs $600.

They will sell the TV for $2600 and give you a free PS3...it looks like a better deal, because it makes you think the TV itself is valued at $2600, when in reality its not.

Hrmmm ... that TV is very nice and it seems like a fair deal , but overall it costs more than I want to spend on the combo. I will just wait for the ps3 price drop and get a smaller HDTV or a moniter for half the price. The big 1080p tv will just have to wait a few years.

Because they can't sit on the shelf forever so they have to figure out something to get rid of them. That is desperate

Agreed. They are desperate to sell the HDTV so they offer PS3 with it to boost sales of that model of HDTVs.

In some ways it is painful to see them needing to do that to move stock. But if it gets them more market penetration it's not like they can pass it up at this point.

There are tons of free PS3 deals out there.

Here's one that will blow you away.

Free PS3 if you accept Jesus Christ as your personal lord and savior! Remember to play Resistance and start shooting up things in the church though. XD

it seems like its free but its really a marketing scheme to get people to buy products. see what they do is sell both for slightly lower than their combined individual prices but still high enough to make a profit

Sony is no where near making profit off the PS3, no where near it. They have a looooong way to go before they can say they are making profit off the console.
