Maxi's no big deal. Button mashing with certain other characters can just be downright annoying though.

That's the thing, since you expect button mashing with Maxi, you're prepared. With the button-mash characters, it's not as frustrating as with the "pro" newbie-unfriendly characters, who have godlike moves that a button masher may stumble upon, ****ing up a match by chance.

I should know, I've done that plenty of times. :P

Tsug_Ze_Wind

It's true, if someone mases with other characters it does catch you off guard, but the luck doesn'[t last longer than a round. If you keep falling for the same move over and over, then you deserve to lose. Socal is all about adapting to the situation in mere second. God, I can't wait till 4 comes out.

*looks at poll* OMG are people clueless, Tekken is no where near as a button mashing game compared to DOA. With DOA everything is done so easily it's unbelievable.

Tekken is a fantastic game which requires proper skill and knowledge of your character as well as the opponents, if you button mash in Tekken you will be caught in a juggle (air) which will destroy half your life. In DOA you button mash and you look like a veteran player  I'm not going to comment on SSB since I haven't played it much.

Yeah, but depending on the person, that one round can last a lifetime.

I think one of my friends is still gloating over beating me in SC when I was at my best. So the effects can remain. Of course, that has more to do with the person than the game.

Swift_Boss_A

Ugh. That's another thing, juggling. I don't mind it gameplay-wise (as much), but just the visual of someone being in the air and punching where they're about to be sends them back flying into the air. It's a ridiculously unfun match to watch.

Just a rant. :P

This man speaks the truth. Virtua Fighter is the most technical 3D fighter out there. Tekken has a very nice dial-a-combo system. Smash has a level of complexity unknown to the average gamer. Jump into a tournament and see how far button-mashing gets you. DOA, on the other hand, is pathetic. A shallow button-masher barely above the likes of Mortal Kombat.

Haha, to all those saying DOA go buttonmash online and see how far you get...jeez fanboys love to talk about things they know nothing about.Kritical_Strike

Funny I button mashed online (can't really do anything else with the lag) and I got a A ranking. Don't believe me? Check my Gamercard I go the A rank achievement.

DOA is definetely the biggest button mashing fighter in the poll.

Depends on the characters being used. Seriously, most characters (mainly the ninjas) can be used effectively by memorizing one or two moves and just hammering buttons, like you said, but timing is still key (counters, knowing when to execute, etc.). Other characters like Brad Wong are far more based on timing than many of the characters in other fighting games. My only issue is the lack of balance, especially in the online mode...

I can vouche for thiss, Tekken takes mad skills, but so does DOA, and so does every other fighting gamee. SO whats with the bickering? Can we all agree that there are crappy players on all games?

From that list? DOA.

Virtua Fighter is the most complex fighting game out there including 2D.

Tekken is the second most complex 3D fighter. Combos are harder to pull off and there's juggling.

In Super Smash Bros. there's too much air play for someone to button mash. Plus it's not like there are super huge power moves that a newb could pull off by accident.

DOA has single button combos. Just keep tapping one button and your character will do a 3-4 hit move with a different animation for each hit.

you were spot on till you said Virtua Fighter was the most complex, that belongs to soul calibur. DOA no matter how simple the combos appear to be (they are not as simple as you think, try to perfect a single character), it's not just about combos with DOA. It's really about timing in this game because you have about 30-50 counters per character and its pretty difficult to effectively make it happen. However, when you can actually play correctly, then no one can touch you because you'll counter them.

You don't know anything about DOA. You will get absolutely nowhere button mashing against anyone unless they have never played it or the difficulty is turned off altogether.

[QUOTE="mosdef_basic"]Soul Calibur although I love the game is a huge button masher. Usually in a game even if someone is a button masher someone with skill can beat them. I played Soulcalibur with my 5 year old and she mopped the floor with me using taki. That being said I will probably still be making that purchase.mtron32

then you probably suck bro, I hate to tell you. There is now way in hell a five year old should beat you with Taki. Maybe Maxi would give her the luck of unpredictability, but even then, you should be able to counter everything she does

Well if the next soul calibur comes out with online features then maybe you can find out if I suck or not, hell I may even let my daughter who will be 7 then have a go at you. I'll just have to keep her off the head set so she won't hear you swearing when she beats you. No diss, she handled me recently after I hadn't played in a while. I pulled out the Dreamcast and hooked it up in her room because she wanted to play something and there was no way she was going to through/drop my $50 360 controller. So for the first 2 to 3 matches I ate it, she used taki, Cervantes and Maxi about round 4 I was soundly whooping that arse. Got pretty competitive there for a minute because I have two older daughters in the mix who she beat as well.

Play as Akira on Virtua Fighter 4 and tell me it's a button masher.

Out of all those I'd say DoA. Most characters who aren't grapplers will have some kind of insane rape juggling combo.

None of them are...especially SSB. It's actually impossible to win in SSB by button mashing. :|

Tsug_Ze_Wind
Yeah. If any game were to be called a button Smasher, then that honor would go to God of War and Heavenly Sword. But since they aren't button maashers, then they have no relevince to this thread. PS, its impossible to win Smash Bros. button smashing UNLESS you are Ganondorf. His regular punch is pretty overpowered in my opinion.

I'd say ALL modern fighters are button mashers, except Smash (youtube "ken ssbm"), and I guess VF is a little better than the other trad. fighters.

Well every fighter can be a button masher to some extent it depends on the degree the system lets you get away with it. I usually don't define a 'buttonmasher' by the game itself though; unless it has an apparent lack of depth.DementedDragon
No, you cannot button mash in Capcom fighters.

The fact that people are voting anything other then Dead or Alive shows how much they know about fighting games. Though DoA 4 did actually make the game competitive. Still is no where near the other games on that list in terms of skill and polish.

[QUOTE="JiveT"]

I am sure all the DOA button mashers in here are top of the XBL leaderboards.

Gunraidan

Online to determine skill in fighting games!?

The fact that so many people are calling SSB a button masher shows that they know nothing about it.

This OP (along with the thread) explains it better then I do.

Wait are you seriously comparing the skill of these games by how difficult the computer A.I. is?

silentobi

Once again, that can be said of any game. Of course a skilled player should always beat a button masher, but that doesn't change the fact that of the 4 options listed here, DOA is easily the biggest button masher. Easily. The combos in DOA are much more basic than those of Tekken or VF, so they are much easier to hit at random. As others have said before, Smash Brothers doesn't really have any combos of note.

In VF, Tekken, and SSB, you just can't defeat people with a random sequence of button presses the way you can in DOA.

Of course the skilled player should always win, but that can be said of VF, Tekken, and SSB as well.
