[QUOTE="khoofia_pika"][QUOTE="DarkLink77"] Oh, God, here we go.texasgoldrush
ME3's ending sucked. The game didn't, but the ending did. Goldrush is one of the stupidest biodrones I've seen.

and you are an idiot thinking I am a Biodrone. I have been on this board critical of several Bioware games, even calling Dragon Age Origins overrated....vastly overrated.

So...what you're saying is your taste in games isn't really all that great. Dragon Age Origins was most likely the last great game Bioware will make.

Biggest disappointment - Darksouls on the PC - No proper mouse and keyboard support meant I didn't bother to play the game, plus 720p and 30FPS on launch, which did get fixed. Also everything EA did, F2P Generals 2 being a particularly bad moment.

Biggest surprise - DayZ, the best thing from 2012 in gaming by a wide margin, in a different league to anything else I've enjoyed playing this year.

What a biased article. And you, how did you know that Torchlight 2 is more balanced? Did you even play these games?

Diablo 2 sucked more than Diablo 3 when it launched. Mass Effect 3 is awesome and no, the ending doesn't have to explain everything down to the minutest details.

Biggest disappointment - Assassin's Creed 3. I was really hyped for this game, and it turned out to be quite disappointing. Sad really considering how much I liked the other AC games.

Biggest Surprise - How much I enjoyed Borderlands 2. I was really expecting it to not be as good as the first one.

Disappointment: Paying half with my neighbour to buy RE6.

Surprise: Nothing really surprised me this year. Everything good has been as expected never going beyond that.

Biggest Disappointment: RE6 that game is grabage is a 2.0 out of 10 in my book and one of the worst games this gen.

Biggest Surprise: Sleeping Dogs it was never on my radar but after playing the demo I had to get the game and I was so damn impressed. It's the game that GTA IV failed to be.

Biggest surprise: Oblivion was actually a pretty good game.

Biggest disappointment: Nothing.

I knew from the start this year wasn't going to be a very good year which is why I used this year to focus on much older games; and by games I mean just one because I'm cheap.

Biggest disappointment, I'm not really sure as I enjoyed all games I bought and looked forward to this year. I guess I was a little let down with RE6, but I liked it enough to give it an 8.

Most pleasant surprise is Max Payne 3 as I really didn't think Rockstar would do it justice. I loved the grim story, the amount of work that went into the presentation and I loved the shooting. Very solid game, the only big game from Rockstar I liked this gen. Hope GTA 5 continues that.

I was also very surprised by Shadows of the Damned. I didn't play it until this year and it really passed my expectations and was very awesome.Too bad it sold so bad but everyone should pick it up as it's only $20 and under now! Give this game a chance, promise it'll be unique enough to have great enjoyment.

Or maybe because its one of the most basic, cliched, conservative RPGs ever made that rips off everybody and blantantly copies FFXII's combat system while basically confirming the criticism that Bioware recycles its plot and it characters. Its so generic and cliched it seems the DA team now does not want to go back that direction and is phasing the Wardens and teh Darkspawn out of their stories.

Please, Diablo III is pay to win and I can buy 4 copies of TL2 for the price of one Diablo III and TL2 is the superior game. Sorry but Blizzard got clowned by a budget game.

No I don't act that way at all. Stories in video games are usually crap and its not surprising alot of games had bad endings espcially the AC series which are probably worse than ME3's ending, but I expected so much more form Bioware and a game the that takes story seriously.

and yet Bioware listened and fixed the endings......yes, the original ending was lacking...but now what didn;t work then works now. The final ending (extended cut + leviathan) simply works and actually is well done for the most part. You know they could have just left the original ending...they didn't.

then thats your problem, not the games problem. The original ending was fundamentally flawed and lacked depth, the new one doesn't.

The biggest suprise is Diablo III beng bested by a budget game, Torchlight II. It is matched critically, but once you start comparing them...TL2 does most stuff a lot better. I thought TL2 was going to be written off as a Diablo clone, instead, its a Diablo killer.

Torchlight 2 is far from a Diablo 3 killer, in fact they are pretty much equal or "meh". One does something better than the other and vice versa. Personally though Path Of Exile wipes the floor and owns D3 and TL2 combine when it comes out.

No, TL2 is a great, but not all time great ARPG, while Diablo III is a disappointment. PoE is not in this discussion, and even if it was, there is also Ultima Forever, another ARPG.

Surprise: Binary Domain I really didn't expect anything from this no-name shooter/rpg, but...it ended up being way better than it had any right to be. Great shooting mechanics, a surprisingly decent story, excellent pacing and decent squad-based shooting made this one a very enjoyable ride. Disappointment: Guild Wars 2 It's not that I didn't like it, but I find myself going back to Guild Wars 1 more often than not. I miss the original's depth and broader variety of 'end-game' goals.

Because the plot in Mass Effect wasn't about stopping the evil space squids, amirite? I enjoyed Origins for what it was, and I don't see a problem with that type of game still existing. Premise was fine, but that doesn't mean sh!t if you can't execute it. They're all pretty generic, to be honest. Jade Empire is probably the least generic, though.

In all honesty, they probably should have just left the ending the way it was, told the fans to go f*ck themselves, and maintained some sense of artistic integrity. They set a dangerous precedent, and most of the people complaining weren't complaining because the ending was bad, they were complaining because they wanted a happy, "everything works out fine" fantasy ending, which is dumb in the context of the story.

I miss the original's depth and broader variety of 'end-game' goals.Planeforger

I know a lot of people who played both but ended up preferring GW1.

I would say that GW1's skills had a bit more oomph to them, in GW2, none of my skills felt anywhere near as impactful as they did in GW1. Sure, they were flashier, but still felt less impactful.

I also stick by the notion that removing energy management for skill use was a terrible design choice.

Well, considering that the Dragon Age team is made up of the morons that made Dragon Age II, this incredibly stupid decision does not surprise me.

DarkLink77
or that fans are stupid and want more simple kill the always chaotic evil beasties drivel that populate many RPGs today. The problem with DA2 was that it was rushed, leading to story and gameplay flaws, not its story premise. Hell, DAO is more generic than KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect, which made Bioware unique. And DAO is no where near as good as Baldur's Gate series.

In ME3 however, they are less evil space squids but mistakes by the original space squids that cost the galaxy for billions of years. Fitting with the entire theme of the trilogy. Its more complex than just orcs that burn things because they are evil.

[QUOTE="texasgoldrush"]The biggest suprise is Diablo III beng bested by a budget game, Torchlight II. It is matched critically, but once you start comparing them...TL2 does most stuff a lot better. I thought TL2 was going to be written off as a Diablo clone, instead, its a Diablo killer.Twin-Blade

I was hyping TL2 big time but was really let down. It's a great game for the price, but I still thought Diablo 3 was better.

Diablo III is worse, less loot, less customization, RMAH, weaker sidequests, no pets, and more. Diablo III was schooled, plain and simple.

How bad Diablo 3 was, definitely.
