I guess where you live. I see gamers still wishing for a Half Life 3 and the Halo community is healthy and youtubers are still making videos on the lore and predictions on where 6 is going. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCptNOWTizPKjnHYLydzUWbw

Y'all internet aspergers fellows have got it all cocked up.
I mean, if Michael Jackson came back from the dead and announced a new album, the internet would break. It doesn't make him relevant compared to say, The Weeknd.
Half-Life is Michael Jackson - a past giant, but irrelevant.
Halo is like The Weeknd - it still has an ongoing fanbase, even if it won't signal the apocalypse.
Logic doesn't fit in here at SW
Look at the people saying Halo isn't relevant. Need I say more? Irrelevant=Killzone. Even cows don't want anymore.
Should add Golden Eye 007 to the list. It was more successful than Halo in original Sales, Sold the N64 in the same sense as halo sold Xbox, was reviewed with nothing but positive feed back. It was at the time the pinnacle of FPS on consoles as there was little to non released at the time on consoles let alone a exclusive FPS.
More relevant: GE 007 >>> HL2 >>>>> Halo.
@Jacanuk:
But Master Chief did talk. Not alot but it was more than a few grunts. Even if we're talking about story telling mechanics, Half Life focused on pure immersion and provided no out-of-body cinemas while Halo CE did it all the time.
I can't argue much with the gameplay mechanics though because most fps games are on the same principles. Run, shoot, throw grenades, cinema, basically. (And the guns were pretty similar on the exception of the almighty crowbar) But no game OWNS the rights to use rifles, pistols, shotguns and rocket launchers. Duke Nukem had those too and so did Doom. And the Chief and Gordon's jobs definitely played a role in what they faced. Half Life had us running creepy ass corridors, gunning anything we saw out of fear and we found the baddies sort of just roaming around Black Mesa. While Halo had the Covenant deployed in the field and placed in firefight teams.
Still, there's no question that Halo borrowed ideas but I think they go further back than Half Life 1. Like Duke Nukem 64.
Gotta be Half-Life. If posters want to point to HL2's status as a classic for a reason why it is still less irrelevant, they have to extend Halo the same favor and point to the first 3 (or 2 imo) Halo games for the same reason.
If either had a new release it would be huge news. Now if it was No Mans Sky 2 ...... *empty void of silence*
Wanna talk about being irrelevant? Killzone.
HL and Halo are still relevant, each on it's own way. Gears it's much closer to becoming irrelevant.
Where is Killzone? Why isn't that on the list? Are you suggesting that drek is relevant in any fvcking way? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA JAPANIME GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
It doesn't make any sense to compare a Franchise which had lots of entries(Halo) with a Franchise that had few ones.(Half Life)
Which one will be the next Duke Nukem Forever?
Team Fortress 2 was in development when 56k was standard.
What a flop
Halo 5 and MCC have an online community that keeps those games relevant. Half-Life is dead.
Indeed. I was just playing MCC yesterday. No problems finding games. Split-screen with my buddy.
While true, halo has lost a good majority of its influence.
Half-Life is dead because its creator decided it was dead (or... as many people here will moan about, made far more important games (CS:Go & DOTA, Hell TF2 probably brought in far more money than HL2)
Halo is dying because its failing to stand the test of time... despite continued development.
@R4gn4r0k: weren't Episode 1 and 2 Expansions ?
I think The Other ones outside of 1 and 2 are spin off titles.(excluding one of them that is that PS2 Remake)
Episode 1/2 were suppose to serve as Halflife 3, back when Valve spoke shit about episodic content like they where industry leaders, when in fact it was (and still is) Telltale.

I agree it was worth abandoning Half-Life for Dota.

Opposing Force and Blue Shift are expansion packs
Decay is a co-op spin off
Episode 1 and 2 are full on continuations of the story
Why would any of those not count as entries in the series ?
Episode 1/2 were suppose to serve as episode, back when Valve spoke shit about episodic content like they where industry leaders, when in fact it was Telltale.
There was also a game that tried to do Episodic gaming before Valve, was also made on the Source engine, called SIN: Episodes
I think they also got stuck after two episodes, what a coincidence LMAO

Yea, they ran out of money and started focusing on other shit. Wasn't that great anyway tbh.
Original, Sin? Pretty cool game.
If Halo 6 got a trailer tomorrow it would get the same reaction as that new Valve card game.
Half Life 3 would get a huge reaction, like Twilight Princess first reveal.
Half life, since HL3 will never happen. Might as well just forget about it, make up your own ending in your head.
Halo games are still releasing occasionally as far as I know :D
Easily Halo due to market saturation.
If Half Life 3 was announced tomorrow, the internet would frggin' explode (slight exaggeration, but you get the point).
Im not really sure what exactly is being asked.
If we are talking about popularity and how far you fall to the bottom, yes its half life.
But the "irrelevancy" part is really getting at me. The reason for that is because with PC gaming even today, HL is still very relevant and is directly responsible and a part of some of the largest FPS we've seen in the last decade.
