Lair and Ratchet and Clank.

Lair was hyped AAA and didn't even make a C rank.

Ratchet and Clank was officially hyped AA (I think?) but was hailed as an AAA in the forums, and got a 7.5. It was enough for half the cows to shoot themselves in the right temple.

No in SW terms you're right of course. But for Nintendo it scored low for a game in which they invested a decent amount of effort (I think, saw lots of coverage on it). So in RL terms it flopped harder with a 6. MP3 got a decent score albeit lower than what was anticipated. So for me that's not really a flop. MP3 sold very well too.

In terms of score wise, Lair no competition. In terms of overall hype, Mass Effect is the biggest flop IMO. It was guaranteed AAA status and could possibly be the game to score the elusive 10 on GS by lemmings. It was also the heavy favorite to win GOTY. Even the majority of lemmings picked Mass Effect to win GOTY over their most hyped game, Halo 3.

And before people say Mass Effect can't be the biggest flop, then tell me why people consider Zelda: TP to be one of the biggest flops ever on this site when it only missed its hype score by only .2.peaceful_anger

I can assure you if zelda was on the new grading scale it wouldve scored an 8.5, and if mass was on the old one, i can assume at least an 8.8

Uhm.. No you can't

Lair because it flopped on two levels.

First, it failed to live up to the hype. Second, while other flops can still be said to be good games (in the 8's is still a worth while playing game), this didn't even achieve that, scoring only a 4.5. It failed to deliver as a game at all.

Hype flop + Game flop = Biggest Flop EVER

This shouldn't even be contested.

It sort of depends on the type of flop.

Score-Wise: Lair obviously, but most non-cows already knew this game was gonna be bad.

Impact-Wise: It's a tie between Mass Effect (hyped GOTY) and Ratchet and Clank (hyped AAA I believe). Those flops had about the same amount of impact as Twilight Princess.

SPM didn't flop. It completely changed the gameplay and wasn't nearly as good as the first 2, but alot of people knew it would BEFORE it came out, therefore it didn't flop.

I believe that Lair shouldn't deserve its 4.5 score because its a gaming gem. It had the graphics, sounds and gameplay. Gamespot is obvisiously bias and do not like the PlayStation 3. Biggest flop of this year? That goes to Metroid Prime 3 or Mass Effect.Click_Clock

I'll give that game the graphics, but just how the hell does it have great gameplay when it's broken controls (as reported by EVERY single reviewer) makes the game UNPLAYABLE???

You saying the game didn't deserve it's 4.5 score is proof of why fanboys can never be professional reviewers. Lair IS a far far bigger flop than MP3 and ME (both of which did at least score well enough to be rated great games). DEAL WITH IT!!

Lol so mass effect having a 92 overall metacritic score is a flop. Have any of you saying it's a flop actually played it? if you have you'd know 3/4 of the problems the gamespot reviewer had were totally wrong. Totally unplayable framerate? i had minor hiccups at most during the 40 hours i played it, might want to exchange your disc there pal. The AI seems to be dumb for some people, smart for others, in my case they were pretty damn smart usually helping a lot more than hurting. The only thing supposedly keeping it out of the goty conversation are the bugs for some people, which will be patched soon through xbl. I still think it should be in the goty convo because story wise, replayability wise (true replayability, playing deathmatch on halo 3 a million times doesn't count), and amount of quality given the length of the whole game is unmatched by any of the other candidatestmacairjordan87

Lair, easily. Looked very good (although i always had a bad feeling about the game) and didn't even meet A status.

This is a biased topic though. You'll get PS3 fanboys saying Mass Effect despite it's 8.5 score and AA status and then you'll have 360 fanboys saying Lair because, well, it just sucked.

Note: I'm looking at the score relative to the hype when i say Lair. Lair was hyped AA at the very least and had alot of potential and it didn't even meet A status. Mass Effect was .5 away from its hype status. Lair is bigger to me on that note.

Actually Mass Effect. It was hyped AAA, and AAAA by some - and got AA. That was huge. No one saw it comming.

Lair on the other hand - everyone knew it would be terrible.

actually...I came on here and even said it would score a lot like Jade Empire because it was too innovative for its own good about 2 weeks before it was released

For me the biggest flop was hellgate...it was hyped to be the next big thing...the developers of Diablo!!! and most people can't even play it

Lair. Hyped AA, scored 4.5. Biggest numerical flop of the year (or this gen, for that matter. Hell, I don't know a single flop in System Wars history numerically further from its hype other than P.N. 03). The reaction was so large, lemmings and sheep wouldn't let cows live it down for like two weeks.

Close second would be Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. What made that flop funny for me was that a lot of people accused cows of being scared and hyping it too low.
