To me they boths biggest advantages are....

3DS:Nintendo IPs, they are a beast on handhelds

NGP: online integration. NGP has full pledge PSN on the go. 3DS has nintendo online support...

NGP + COD(and online) in terms of sales could threaten even pokemon

dercoo

But the 3DS will be getting Call of Duty too...

Like I said NGPs online will crush 3DSs, and COD all about online.

Yes, but SaltyMeatBalls made a good observation when he said that most players won't want to buy it on the NGP.

While I don't underestimate the potential of Pokemon, I'm pretty sure its going to take much more then that just for the 3DS garantee its number 1 spot.

I don't think the DS sold the amount of units it did solely because of Pokemon. It sold well because it had a lot of good games. The PSP also had excellent games, but the DS simply had more of them.
More games - more sales. Simple math.

Honestly, they will probably both be successes in their own right.

However, the 3ds will sell more. It will have roughly a year head start, will be cheaper (this is just an assumption and subject to change), and have more system selling titles (pokemon, mario, mario kart, animal crossing, ect.)

COD already been on handhelds....I don't think it the type of game that will ever be very successful on handhelds.

If you look at sales charts whenever a Pokemon game comes out the DS has always got a boost in sales. Sure they may be thinking about other games also. But it's the fact that whenever a new Pokemon has came out there is a boost in sales speaks volumes.

NGP will be a portable playstation just like the PSP

3DS will continue have interesting games that cater to the hand-held audience.

charizard1605

I don't think that generalization will hold true this time around. The NGP has enough interesting features- including the touchpad at the back- that it might get interesting games of its own. We'll see, I suppose.

yea... i think they ripped nintendo off enough this time to actually compete.

Pokemon is THE most pivotal factor, but I won't say it's the ONLY factor. There are also others like Maro Kart, Mario, Zelda, other Nintendo franchise and a ton of third party games that give the 3DS the upper hand. Though the NGP's lineup looks really promising right now, all hell would break loose the moment Nintendo released a Pokemon game for the 3DS.

I see where this is going. Look, this whole industry revolves around companies copying each others ideias and perfecting them. Its not about what you use, but how you use it.
Yes, Nintendo has always managed to bring some sort of innovation on many different areas, but Sony has come up with something we've never seen before, so let's just try to give credit where credit is due.
Besides, I can pretty much garantee you that Project Cafe will debut an online service made to compete with PSN and XBLA. And that would be ripping off Sega, since they were the first ones to come up with it, right?

Some people are underestimating how popular a COD game on the NGP would be if it were a very close/faithful port of its console brother. The 3ds will have a COD as well but the lack of the 2nd stick already disqualifies it from having a decent port and what ever it gets will more than likely be a spin-off maybe even a different genre like splinter cell. That still may not be enough to outsell pokemon but it can only help; after all, COD is currently a bigger/more popular franchise with a fan base that is just as capable of pokemon's to be willing to purchase anything with a Pokemon/COD name on the cover.

dual analog..seen it indeed, despite the N64 debuting the analog stick, the DualShock came up dual use first
touch pad...seen it...oh wait..they put it on the back..ok they took the innovation to the next level. actually, a touchpad has never been used before in a video game. the DS and 3DS use touchSCREENS especifically made for the use of a stylus, different from both the NPG's touch surfaces, which were made to be used by fingertips.
gyroscope...seen it yeah, on pretty much every smartphone

actually sony and and nintendo will be ripping off microsoft...they revolutionized online gaming and introduced achievements. Achievements are a given, but console online play was first brought up by Sega on the Dreamcast

Again, what part of "its not what you use, but how you use it" don't you understand?

Like I said NGPs online will crush 3DSs, and COD all about online.

dercoo

Why would a COD fan buy an NGP to play COD?

1. Never said they would buy it just to play COD, like no one just bought a DS to play pokemon either.

2. They would like getting a NGP version as they could play online on the go. Anywhere there is free wifi, is a COD spot

A Pokemon fan would need to buy the respective platform the game is on, which currently is DS, now will move on to 3DS. A COD fan has many more platforms to choose from, they probably have a platform which they play COD on, many of which will probably provide a superior online experience and graphics (360/PS3/PC).

Pokemon, zelda and Mario are the biggest franchises arguably and huge over in Japan

Also if Monster Hunter ever went to the 3ds it would win by default in sales

Seriously, I'm still baffled by the lack of a second nub on the PSP. Those things can't be that pricey that it drove the costs down that much.

How would a second nub work on the NGP anyway? I imagined a second nub on both the 3000 and the Go and it (the second nub) looks uncomfortable to use

Only because you're not imagining the system being a bit bigger with more finger room on the front of the device, PSP and Go are just too small to imagine there being more room without actually dropping the thing :P

And the ngp doesn't have to for me to happy I for one enjoyed the psp and the games on it far more then i did the ds and the ngp just looks to take everything to the next level with so many new inputs and very powerful tech inside. If it ends of being like the psp but with alot more support this time around in both core games and smaller pick and play casual games designed around the touchscreen/6-axis sensor from it using andriod it will be fantastic.

i work with middle school kids. the most talked about video games on campus are the call of duty games. i guarantee you all now, once COD hits the NGP, these grade school kids are going to go crazy over it. the schools in my area have wifi. that can only mean one thing.....COD chaos is ensured.

A lot of NGP games have been revealed already. And we're not comparing the libraries, I'm just saying that no matter what games are released on the NGP, it won't stand a chance against the 3DS as Nintendo's got Pokemon up its sleeve. I mean, the NGP already seems to have an awesome library, but Pokemon games sell like crazy,

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL OH my god, you can't be serious? That has to be sarcasm or something. Oh my god. I can't contain my laughter. Go look at the DS vs PSP games and see who has more 3rd party support and even then how many sales each console has on their own companies games. Eat your words, go ahead, do it.
