Bioshock and Crysis are targeting totally different gameplay innovations. I really have a hard time comparing them, just the fact that they are both bringing innovative gameplay -- but in different types of packages.
Hmm...i'm not sure, generaly GS has been underratring Irrational games heavily, still..unlike their other games this one has a lot of hype behind it so they might be less willing to underrate it. On the other hand I'm afraid it might get xboxed, the game is less than 6 months away and we hardly know about it's gameplay beyond the basic concepts. Of course dumbed down gameplay would propably guarantee a better score here :( Plus I hate how the graphics changed when they switched from ue2.0 to ue3.0
LOL. This thread reminds me of a question Colbert posed: "President Bush: great president or greatest president?" On a more serious note, I'm not interested in this game at all, but it looks like it'll easily pick up AA, and AAA isn't unlikely.
AAA, saying it will get an AA is like saying Mass Effect wouldnt get an AAA because it has no MP, there both RPG's only they have a differend point of view.
I would like to know whether you guys think Bioshock will be either AA or AAA.
Firstly, state whether you're a hermit, lemming, cow or sheep, then state your prediction, as well as your reasoning. I just want to know if I see a pattern emerging with Bioshock's prediction.
Anyway, I'll start first:
Hermit/Lemming (although leaning more towards hermit, without the arrogance).
AAA
Why: The story is very intriguing. It's quite original, and I can see it going places game haven't gone previously. Secondly, the setting. The city of Rapture is underwater, and water is leaking in from everywhere, creating a claustrophobic effect. And the water effects are some of the best ever seen (a couple of developers spent a whole year doing solely doing water effects and physics). The place is somewhat deserted, the lighting marginal, which makes the whole place downright foreboding. Last but not certainly not least, the dynamic AI. Anyone who's seen the 15 Minute Developer Video would not dispute that this AI has some fantastic potential (something that Crysis still needs to figure out).
Seriously, I'm a huge Halo fanboy, and this game makes Halo 3 look like just another FPS. Sorry hermits, but Crysis ain't gonna take the FPS genre to new heights - this baby is.

I don't agree with this. Crysis and Bioshock are different kind of games. Bioshock is a first person survival horror RPG whereas Crysis is an intense first person shooter. No one knows about the gameplay yet, but atleast the credit of taking the graphics to new heights definitely goes to Crysis.
Sheep - I don't see what the big deal is about this game. It looks like yet another fps. I read the website and I don't see anything revolutionary there either except maybe the Plasmids. It doesn't even have multiplayer. I guess I simply don't like FPS games but I wouldn't give it anything higher then A.
But if it ends up like Zelda with the a off score from Gamespot 8.7 if it is like Zelda TP on gamespot. But even if it does end like Zelda it will stil get a 9.3 at least on Gamerankings
Why are people comparing Bioshock to Oblivion? :| Bioshock doesn't even feature a fully open world, it follows a mission/level structure: "The traditional mission structure is used to prevent players from travelling to overly dangerous areas, but there might be cases where the player is like, 'This spot is too hot, I'm going back to build myself up a bit'." http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=155891 Unless, of course, I've interpreted that quote wrong.

It'll be a great game, that's for sure. What it'll score at Gamespot isn't so sure though. They did give Deus Ex an 8.2 and System Shock 2 an 8.5 after all. Hopefully they've grown more sane since then.
Lemming/Hermit/Cow I'm gonna go with AAA.
Same reasons as everyone else who knows anything about the game. Atmosphere, interesting backstory and setting, dynamics between NPC's, open ended, open ended solutions to problems. Etc.

That quote begs to differ. If you can provide me with some form of proof which says otherwise, I'd be mighty happy. I would prefer an open environment, but I don't believe it is.

Hum... that is very possible. You progress, and unlock areas. I thought it would similar to that of Half-Life 2, where in your have 1 large linear path through the game, except you do have the option to explore and uncover things along the way.
   Bioshock is free roaming as said in bold paragraph   :) hellzhitman
